Tired, cluttered salon in an old house. That's kind of a trend in old towns like Winchester, but this one is especially unkempt and messy. I made my appointment about three weeks ahead, and after arriving 15 minutes early, I waited and waited and waited to be called to the chair. Instead, after about 45 minutes, I was told that they were sorry, but my stylist's current client was taking much longer than anticipated and I'd have to reschedule. After reading many of Lox's reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. I've been getting my hair cut regularly for decades and have never, ever had a stylist tell me "sorry, you'll have to come back" because of THEIR inability to manage a schedule. read more

In town for a few months and needed waxing services and a cut/weave/roots. Emily was a darling and did a great job with both. The place itself could use a good cleaning and an update but aesthetics aside, I'd go back for all my needs if we lived here. Note: bathroom and some stylist stations are up a set of steep stairs. Notify them ahead of time and I am sure they'll accommodate you. And as of this review they did not yet do pedicures, only manis. read more

I have searched for a while, but no more. Nicole , a senior stylist at the Lox Salon, has changed my life. REALLY, yes really. I finally found someone who listened to what I wanted and brought it to fruition. My cut is awesome and I can even do it myself. I had my first appointment with Shelley, and it could not have been a better experience. She not only did exactly as I asked for my hair, but she was SO personable and easy to talk to throughout the entire process. I went in, a mess, from a previous salon. My hair made me look about 20 years older, and I was devastated. I honestly didn't have high hopes of anyone being able to fix it. But, Shelley did an AMAZING job! Ok I really don't like when I can't give 5 stars but here we are. I made an appointment about two weeks prior sense we were going to be in the area and my hair really needed some love and a cut. Ok let me say I am happy with my hair, but I also changed the plan for my hair after entering and sitting in Emily's chair which was covered in someone's blond hair all over the seat, hand rests and floor, it was a mess, even hair on the walls. I cleaned the chair the best I could but I definitely left with hair on my ass. Emily also used a round brush on my hair that definitely was used on more then one client before me. Which is totally not board approved and just gross, washed my body as soon as I left. Every woman knows first rule of thumb when getting your hair done is you're judging and inspecting your hair stylist hair first. And as proud of her hair has she was it was a miss sorry to say, very 90's. So I opted to stay with my all over brown color and even cut, so if I did need to get it fixed it would be easy. I really did want layers but oh well you take that chance when going to a new hair stylist. I can't stress enough for how unclean the entire place was, at least down stairs (the office was clean) walls looked covered in fingerprints, hair color and hair. They really need to do a deep clean, it looks really unprofessional sorry ladies but you can do better. So glad I wore my mask for the entire appointment. Needless to say I won't be back and hope the cleanliness will be addressed. read more

I had two stylists from Lox come to my wedding location to do hair and make up a couple weekends ago. For the price that I paid, I don't feel like the services were up to par at all. The make up artist came with only two eyeshadow pallets. I didn't like any of the colors, so we ended up using our own pallets! She didn't bring fake eyelashes, when I was told by the receptionist that they would be brought. She went to CVS to get the eyelashes, and my sister in law had to put them on! Also, the hair turned out average. Attached is a picture of my wedding day hair. Curls came out, ended up looking like a basic everyday hair style, that anybody could do. I had my hair done by a different salon for my sisters wedding, and my hair held the curls for two days after! Do not recommend using this salon for your special wedding day looks. Very disappointed for the expensive price that I paid. read more

Got my hair painted and cut by Claire and I couldn't be happier! She was professional, polite, easy to talk to and did a great job. I wasn't sure what I wanted when I came in, so she carefully listened to me during the consultation and helped explain my options. We decided to do hair painting over foils for a more natural look with less upkeep. She does a great job and the salon uses high quality products. I'm just so unhappy with my hair. This is my second appointment but my third time visiting this salon. My first appointment was so/so....I had to come back in after my original appointment to have my highlights fixed and re-toned because I had horizontal lines across my head. I appreciate how quick they were to get me back in and remedy the issue so I decided when I wanted a freshening up I would return back to this salon again. I wish I hadn't.......I went in last night to get a cut and accent lights which I wanted to frame my face. The stylist missed my widows peak and my accent lights are so brassy, it looks so amateur....and it cost $145! I had to shampoo my hair twice to get all of the product out. The salon is really messy and unclean, the review before mine is spot on with the state of this place. I have no faith to even try and go back and have them fix it. My stylist, Lizz, completely understood this! She took the time with me to figure out what would work best for my crazy schedule-and her knowledge & techniques blew me away! She even took the time to give me tips to get the look I want once I'm home!!! Absolutely love the way Nicole does my hair, I went from box-dye faded red to blonde in two sessions. The process was long but Nicole and all the girls made my experience much better; constantly asking if I'm feeling okay, providing water or coffee. I got to my appointment and found out Claire would be doing my hair. She did a fantastic job and listened to my concerns. She made my time there fun and had great conversation. So frustrated I almost cried. $50 for a wash and to have my split ends trimmed. She spent less than 30mins on my hair total, including washing and drying. Appointment started 10 mins late, and she rushed, even though I was there 15 mins early. Straightened it when I have natural curl even though I asked her to embrace my natural texture. I also asked for texturizing and to frame my face. My hair looks disconnected from my face now and just so unflattering. So sad because the first time I went it was the BEST experience and she did everything perfectly (besides having her kid in my face, touching my hair). I had some faded colors in my hair (pinks, blues, purples, and teal). Shelley did an awesome job with correcting, toning, and styling my hair. Our ultimate goal is silver/grey (I have naturally black hair). She walked me through what the process would be and made some knowledgeable recommendations to get me to my goal. While she was doing my hair, she explained and talked to me about every product that was going into my hair and what it would do. TL;DR version: Decided to splurge and dye my hair. Even after the manager "fixed it" from when a previous stylist at this same salon tried to dye it, my hair still isn't right. It's splotchy and has bleach/brass spots popping through. My experiences were consistently bad and the manager seems to not understand the basics of customer service. Full version: I'm a mom who has spent the past 6 years only focusing on the kids. I decided to dye my hair grey as a treat for myself. I went here and the stylist was super sweet, but didn't get my hair the desired color. She also bleached my sweater. And I watched another stylist make a girl cry, displaying zero empathy for her customer. And they got hair dye on a man's coat (they told him it would wash out, riiiight). And another stylist seemed to be aware that my girl wasn't going to be able to get my hair grey, but didn't say anything to her. I just didn't have a positive experience. Anyways, her next available appointment to fix it was almost 3 weeks out. The manager agreed to help fix it sooner, but only after lecturing me about how Pinterest ruins customer expectations and that I don't have a cosmetology license. Yeah, I'm pretty sure customer service 101 is to not be condescending. At my appointment, she was generally nice, but spoke of inappropriate things like spanking her 12 year old step son as punishment, and later complaining about how the weird hair color trends are so annoying (uh, hello, that's what I'm getting done? Why tell me that?). Spanking is pretty controversial, too. It's a bit like abortion. Why are we discussing her right to hit her kids? Whatever, I wouldn't care about any of if if my hair was grey but it's still not right. It has weird splotches and brass/gold popping through. I'm overall less than thrilled about this experience. I won't be coming back. And I'm mad that I need to find a new place to fix my hair. read more

My sister's wedding was on a Sunday. The girl who did the bridal party's hair had agreed to open the salon that day for us since they are normally closed. She made it very obvious that she did not want to be there and on top of that our hair and makeup looked awful. She spent maybe 15-20 minutes on us and when my cousin went back in to pay she heard the stylist telling another girl "well, that was a sh*t show." Next time you should probably wait until everyone is gone before you start talking rudely about customers. It was very unprofessional. I'm so disappointed I paid $85 for hair and makeup that looked the way it did. read more

The review is based upon a blow out, brow wax and a regular manicure. The blow out was nice...30. Cleanup my brows was good....5 min. The regular basic manicure with regular polish TOOK OVER ONE HOUR and CAME OUT AWFUL and COST $30!!!!! Now... I get trying to have a full service salon. What I don't get is why offer a service (especially at $30!) if you do not have a skilled person performing the service (or the proper tools...invest in some nail files, Lox!). I was in town for a wedding and thought, "what the hell, I'll have time to kill so I'll go to a local place to pretty up"; my nails, which are kept nicely short, look like a child did them. My time to kill took a dramatic hit (12:15-1:30 for a basic manicure!!) and I couldn't have a nap. Yes, I'm from Long Island, NY and am used to fast and professional services and do tend to think things move a little slower in some places, but an hour and 15 minutes for a basic manicure is ridiculous and got me thinking....why is someone who is obviously not a professional doing manicures? What other services at Lox are being performed by unprofessionals? Was the lady who did my nails licensed or did they hire her to sweep and give very bad manicures? Bottom line is DO NOT GET MANICURES OR PEDICURES (the girl who did the mani admitted she doesn't do pedis and, Thank God....that would probably have taken another 3 hrs.!) at Lox. read more

Alright ladies and gents, I'm a super picky client to please. I have semi-coarse curly hair and it's hard to tame this mane. I just moved to Winchester and thought I would try Lox Salon because of great reviews. Well, they are more than deserving!!!! My girl Crystal has some serious skills. She did a great cut and color and was able to blow dry my crazy hair straight without once using a flat iron. I've only ever had one other person accomplish that.
