Not being a huge football fan (shoot me, I know), I'm not sure I'm as enamoured with this hotel as most. That said, it's definitely not a bad place to stay if in the area. For a typical hotel this place really does tick most of my boxes... the aircon in the rooms works a treat, the black out curtains actually block out all of the exeternal light, there is a small fridge in the room for your own drinks and snacks, and the rooms themselves are spacious... complete with a desk and extra chairs. Even not being a football fan, I must admit that the view into the stadium from the onsite restaurant is quite cool... I believe some rooms have a view as well, so obviously this can be a huge plus. The breakfast here was on par with what you would expect, but extra props for the eager willingness to make eggs however you wanted them. I can't speak to the dinners as I didn't have the chance to try them. The only odd negative can be the sheer size of the hotel as it wraps around the pitch... my particular room was hilariously far away from the entrance which proved a bit of an annoyance when after a long day my keycard no longer functioned... it was nearly soul destroying knowing my bed was just there on the other side of the door with no way for me to get to it. Based on my disclaimer I'm going with four stars personally, as I certainly wouldn't be upset staying here again, but if you're a football fan or if you generally prefer hotels such as the DoubleTree Hilton then I doubt you'll find much fault.

If you are a football fan expect to be impressed with your own private balcony view of the pitch! All rooms have a mini-bar, although you have to ask for it to be stocked. Food was excellent and breakfast even more so amazing. The best part of the whole visit, was having a warm double chocolate chip cookie shoved in my hand by the receptionist at check in! Downsides is it can be pricey when you go direct to Hilton, however check out some of the booking sites like LateRooms or Lastminute to get the best deals. I paid £70 for a night in a pitch side room. Expect the prices to rocket wherever you buy from on match days!

Are you hoping to feel what being called "a knob" sounds like? Are you looking for a receptionist who will show you complete disrespect and show no interest in your concerns? Would you like a hotel where you are told your booking doesn't exist although you have e-mailed confirmation on your phone and that you'll have to spend the rest of the night driving around just to find a hotel that will take you. Then stay at the Travelodge Milton Keynes Shenley Church End! You'll have a whale of a time! Seriously now, don't stay at this place. And definitely don't turn up late at night because the nightshift staff apparently hate their jobs and hate them even more in the evening so take this opportunity to abuse you (despite their well-placed sign stating "zero tolerance towards abuse of our staff"). Our visit was delightful as the colleague on the end of the phone, not realising she was on loudspeaker proceeded to tell the receptionist to "tell us we were lying and that I was a knob". Wonderful customer service. Obviously this zero tolerance towards abuse does not go both ways and the staff are free to abuse their customers at will. And this is followed up with a visit the following day to make our complaint to find the entire lodge unmanned save for the lone maintenance man who had helpfully left all of his tools, including razor sharp saws lying in the middle of the lobby whilst he went off. God forbid we walk in there with children who could quite easily have decided these would be great to play with. I actually cannot think of a single worthwhile thing to say about this location. It has more than put me off ever staying at any Travelodge location again. Utter utter trash.

The more familiar hotels nearby, however, had no rooms available and the reviews for Jurys Inn were good. Arriving by train at Milton Keynes Central, it was only a fifteen minute walk. Convenient. Luckily, the weather was really good that day. Checking in couldn't have gone any easier. It was quick, efficient, and the staff were very friendly. Our room was quite comfortable and not claustrophobic at all. The bathroom had a decent amount of space as well. The beds were very comfy but the comforters were really nice, soft and warm. People take towels from hotels all the time, right? What about comforters? No, no no, I didn't. We only stayed one night but it was a good night. We did have coffee in the bar the next morning while waiting for a friend but we missed breakfast service (ends at 10:00am). We hung around the hotel lobby for quite a while, even after we had checked out, waiting for another friend to join us. The staff were fine with that, and even recommended their location in Prague, our next destination. We booked it online before leaving. I preferred the Milton Keynes location but would stay at either one again.

My travel companion had the standard and it was 2 twin beds, no flat screen TV, tiny bathroom, etc. I had to laugh because I thought my relatively spacious room was cramped. People were very friendly. It was the tail end of a long business trip so I pretty much just ordered room service for meals. Loved the fish and chips although I had better at a local pub but for a Holiday in and room service, piping hot and great crispy batter! The mushy peas had too much mint. Elsewhere I had them with subtle mint and I think a bit of lemon squeezed in and actually like them. Chips were actually better than elsewhere. When you ask for a beer, they don't mess around. A pint seems automatic... which was quite fine with me! Front desk was uber-helpful. I brought the wrong power plug. My travel partner didn't bring any at all. We got loaners without a problem. I got a candy bar every time I walked by. (I'm not sure what it is about Europe and the Mars bars but okey dokey... you offer me free chocolate I'm not going to say "no") Pleasant, uneventful stay... oh!.. and the windows open! Would've been ideal had the TV dealt with my check out, and even better had my calls to room service been answered. Sadly, this knocks a star off my ratings. Fair warning: HInn is one of the farthest from MK Central among a cluster of hotel properties. A hike (uphill, mind you) could take up to 20 minutes. Add to that luggage and the summer heat, one's better off taking a cab. Plus side is that the town shopping mall is just 5 minutes further up the main road.

On the first day all I saw were pork products which I don't eat and scrambled eggs which I don't like. Bearing in mind that I recently stayed at Holliday Inn Leicester and had poached eggs cooked to order for breakfast, I asked a waitress, can I order two poached eggs please. She looked at me like there was something wrong with me and blankly said no without expression. I said pardon? She repeated a cold "no"! At this point I said can I speak to the chef please? Another waitress came out. I said are you the chef to which she replied no, we don't have one. I walked around to reception stunned and told the receptionist. She said they are unable to make you poached eggs as we have no chef and the scrambled eggs are bought in ready scrambled and warmed up. Ewwww! On the second morning we arrived downstairs to the most enormous queue. We assumed it was people checking in or out. It was a queue for a breakfast table. The dining room was so disorganised due to lack of management or supervision that there was obviously no-one to delegate. All the tables were absolutely filthy as was the coffee area and they couldn't manage to clear them in time for people and had caused a queue. One woman said they had been stood for 40 minutes waiting to be seated. No juice or bread anywhere in sight because they were so busy trying to clear tables that the food was not being topped up. This had a knock on effect of another queue just as long in the serve yourself area. On the second morning all I heard were men. They were saying they wanted a refund and were going to make a complaint. Again, because they found it preposterous that there were no eggs for breakfast and were saying eggs come as standard etc. That 2nd day there weren't even any warmed up scrambled eggs as the day before. We waited around half an hour for vegetarian sausages. We waited 10 minutes for juice and bread to be replenished. There was no decaffeinated coffee or tea available. As you can see by the photographs attached, the tea and coffee stations were highly unsanitary. So much so I asked a waitress for a cloth to clean it myself. She brought a soaking went cloth from the kitchen which was then expected to mop up all the overflow and spills and didn't even have the sense to ring it out. I spoke to her and she snarled at me don't shout at me. I said I'm not shouting. I am hard of hearing, this is my natural voice and how I speak. (And it was). The dining room staff do not have a clue and are running around highly stressed and angry with no delegation or supervision and they aren't upto the job requirements. They were also super rude. Then, the one that no customer wants to hear. "We are short staffed". This is neither my business or problem. Don't put that onto me. I came away to relax and I don't appreciate excuses. Short staffed? Hire some more and get a kitchen manager at least if you are choosing not to employ a chef, although really they could do with 2 chefs, 2 kitchen hands, 4 waitresses and 2 to replenish the stock. The job could have been done with the staff we saw running around like headless chickens with no order or routine in sight. I dread to think of the levels of sanitation in the kitchen and it's such a shame as the rooms were clinically clean and the housekeeping staff adorable.
