Banbury House - Executive: Double Room

I recently stayed two nights in the Banbury House Hotel and must say was massively underwhelmed…read more The Hotel looks rather grand from the outside but is tired and shabby on the inside. The staff are for the most part disinterested and certainly do not go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. On one occasion I stood at the reception counter for close to 5 minutes while 3 staff members fussed over something on the computer screen. I would not have minded so much had they not noticed me, but they did and chose to continue prattling among themselves. The one exception one was a receptionist (ex BA) who was on duty the second day. She was marvellous and could not have been more helpful. So, tired looking hotel with tired looking staff serving tired looking food. All of this I can live with if I have to, but jacking up the prices from £48 to £125 per room per night just because the Grand Prix was on in Silverstone is unforgivable. And what's even worse I was fool enough to pay it! Top Tip: Avoid during Silverstone Grand Prix

The breakfast however was really good as it is in many places in the UK. You can choose various version of eggs(scrambled etc.) which were freshly made for you. Several juices, cheeses, marmelades etc. as well. I would choose this hotel again on my next trip to Banbury if I would have to.

I came to Banbury to attend Fairport Convention's Cropredy Fest. I really liked this hotel. The…read moreroom was spacious, clean and quiet, even though I faced the street. It's only a short drive to Cropredy village, so if you don't feel like camping for the festival this is an excellent alternative. Breakfast was good and table service was friendly and efficient. The gardens out back make you feel like you're at a country house even though you're just a short walk to the Banbury central business district. It's easy to reach from the M40. One thing to be careful about is that the access to the car park in the rear is rather narrow. But then, the passageway was built for horse and carriage. Fold your mirrors in, especially if you've got a rental car.

The only things we liked about this hotel were it's name, exterior appearance, and location; it was…read morein the center of town so it felt quaint. The room was nothing great and the staff wasn't either. One night we returned back late and the lobby door was LOCKED! (Someone is supposed to be available 24/7 in the office.) So, while I stayed at the door pounding, my bf went around the building and found a window that he climbed in. As soon as he found his way to the front door, the office attendant also came. You should have rang the doorbell that would page me. (He looked like he had been sleeping.) WHAT doorbell? The one that's outside of the doorway. Ooohhh, the one that you can't see because it's dark and no one told us about it? Hmmm... So, I was quite irritated about that. Besides that, they advertise free WiFi but you have to sit in the lobby to access it. No signal in the room.
