My husband and I each ordered sausage sub. It was outstanding. Just enough spice, hot off the grill with onions and peppers on a sub roll. If I were to make one recommendation it would be to increase the size of the sub roll. So delicious though! On our way out we grabbed two homemade molasses cookies for the road. They were AMAZING. I haven't had a homemade molasses cookie in 40 years but I'll tell you, this was the best I've ever had. I get that the hours are hit or miss. It's a mom and pop shop. If you're in the area and they are open stop in. You won't regret it. We will definitely stop in again.

The chili is my husband's favorite chock full of meat with the perfect heat, and the pulled pork and coleslaw are mine. My son swears by the frito pie. The cornbread is a huge wedge, buttered and grilled.definitely shareable, but why would you want to?? Also I am a sucker for a great molasses cookie and these are phenomenal. You order at window and pay at bar. Usually some friendly locals in there having a drink. There is some seating inside. They were only taking cash and there is an atm inside. There are lots of local food items and spices to purchase and a freezer of their menu items to purchase for home. We stop whenever we're going through and they're open. Highly recommend!

BEST BEEF JERKY EVER…read more Ahem. Seriously, though, we still dream about that jerky. And the ribs. Oh, those pork ribs! I am salivating just thinking about them now. Mmm... As soon as we got back to our cabin, the charcoal smoker was fired up and those ribs were lovingly tended to and then thoroughly enjoyed all evening. Just go there - their food will speak for itself. (And if you love the jerky, too, and don't live anywhere near there you can have it shipped on their website! Even found it at random small specialty/local food shops, like City Feed in Jamaica Plain, MA.)

I opted for the $3 "to go" pack you can find at the counter with four fairly large sized pieces of jerky in them. They also have a bigger 20-piece one as well. The store also sells local beef and pork, sausage, and all the fixins you could imagine to go with them. It was more like a convenience store for a backyard barbecue. The Strip Sirloins for $8.99 were thick cut with not too much fat per piece, so I purchased one to split with my husband (cooked last night with just salt & pepper and butter in the pan .. yes, I did it on the stove .. and it came out tender, moist and delicious). I also picked up a package of maple sausage to make on my husband's birthday and it is phenomenal. The flavor was perfect, sausage forward on the front with the sweet taste of maple to finish. Perfect for breakfast. I'm glad I stopped - but for those of you not passing through town, they will ship if you go through their website.

Especially enjoy their filet, which is often my go to and has never disappointed. Service is always good and ambience is what you'd expect. We arrived at a busy time on a Saturday night and were pleased that they were able to fit us in…read morewithin ten minutes- which was a good thing because the two waiting areas were so hot we were in danger of becoming a steak ourselves. We had three kids in tow. Peanuts, though advertised, were not on the table but an empty, unclean bucket was. We asked for some and the friendly hostess hooked us up with two bags worth. We had no issue with the atmosphere, despite it being packed, and despite proximity to the bar and about six televisions playing four different things people were being courteous and quiet. Families were well-represented, as were two-person tables. The server was prompt and attentive and returned about as often as was necessary. As for food... I would avoid the three-choice appetizer: fried cuke rounds, barbecued pork, mozzarella sticks. Only the cukes were...delicious. Barbecue sauce was sickeningly sweet and overwhelming. I ordered plain water and drank three glasses of it during the course of the meal because everything was salty. Four of us had steaks which were done as ordered but lacked seasoning and sauce. On the dry side but not bad. Baked potato was massive and salty. The kabob was just right but the bed of rice was, you guessed it, over-seasoned and over-salted. And such small portions. Caesar salads lacked taste, mostly because grated cheese was almost nonexistent. Very bland dressing. I think we all agreed the exceptionally large fries were soggy. I don't think either the prices or the food quality were draw enough to want to go back and besides this, I'm probably right at my sodium allowance for the month, after that meal. Next time in Bangor we'll maybe try the Korean steakhouse.
