I got the fried chicken combo ($16.99) and my husband got the beef combo ($16.99). We requested no sesame seeds for our food and they accommodated by not sprinkling sesame seeds on the rice, japchae or beef, but they forgot that one of the fried chicken sauces has sesame seeds in it, so I had to give my husband that piece. We were going to share anyway, so it wasn't a big deal for me. The Fried Chicken Combo came with 3 pieces of fried chicken, each one a different flavour: original, sweet and spicy, and soy garlic. The sweet and spicy sauce has sesame seeds in it. Since I can't eat sesame seeds but can tolerate slight contamination, I didn't bring it up and just gave that piece to my husband. Although in retrospect I should have alerted them for them to be more aware for someone else who might have a more severe issue. Both combos came with japchae, rice, 2 dumplings, and coleslaw. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. It was great. I liked both the original and the soy garlic. Hubby liked the sweet and spicy. The beef was tender and flavourful. And I liked that it was lean meat and not gristly. The dumplings were deep-fried and had pork and vegetables in it. The rice was nicely steamed and slightly sticky which I liked. The japchae was flavourful and had shiitake mushrooms, carrots, bell peppers and onions in it. It was little too oily for my preference, but I still enjoyed it. The combos also came with a can of soda or a bottle of water. My husband got a Coca Cola and I got a bottle of water, which I took to go to drink during my shopping adventures after lunch, since we were given tap water with our meal. Service was courteous and efficient. Lots of indoor seating with televisions playing K-pop music videos in the dining room. The restaurant is down a flight of stairs, so might be a problem for those with mobility issues. Review #18 (2025)

The breading was very thick and crispy and the chicken meat was quite tender and juicy, if it was there. I found that my chicken pieces were primarily just the fried outside, with very little chicken actually underneath. They must not have had my late mom's cooking or food at La Republika. Either way, they would've polled way way higher. Too many people mention Balut, the boiled duck embryo egg with baby feathers and dinuguan, the pork blood in vinegar with coconut milk with chitlins as perhaps among the most well-known gross out foods of the world. Even if they only knew pancit (noodle disk) and egg-roll cousin "lumpia" the world might be impressed.. However, most FIlipino restaurants in So. CAL and elsewhere are mostly turo-turo which means point-point for what you want in tired Filipino food, cafeteria style,steam tables. So La Republika was a breath of fresh air. There is patio seating as you enter. If you want to eat inside, like on a very cold winter's day, a rainy day, or a sweltering summer day, you might prefer to eat indoors. There are some tables as you walk inside with meh ambiance, and another nicer back room. It's not really an intimate, romantic place. But the complaints stop there. This is an open kitchen, so you can see if someone is doing something bad like some restaurants do behind closed doors, i.e. accidentally dropping then picking food from the floor and serving it...or spitting on the food of an impolite diner. I'd make this a permanent go to place if I lived here.
