To be frank I can understand why because this place has class and really is of a very high calibre indeed. The prices here can be a bit steep for student tastes but this doesn't matter as the food and service mean that it is worth every penny of your cash. The staff here are very pleasant and really professional meaning that the food arrives promptly. The way the food tastes is delicious and you can tell that much passion and effort go into preparing it. On the whole a classy and professional place which really is a pleasure to experience.

There are two very different sides to Tribeca; with the gorgeous fresh and creatively topped pizzas prepared centre stage in an open kitchen on one side, and the busy, exciting atmosphere of the bar after 11, once the clientele stop munching pizza and start guzzling cool cocktails and shots. The surroundings are retro and don 70s style patterned wallpaper with an old gas fire and heirloom-like lamps which make you feel oddly at home, as though you went for pizza at your nan's house. And yet the open-plan nature of the layout with stairs on either side of a large open space leading up to a more cosy eating and drinking area give it a contemporary look. The bar stretches the length of the room ready for the buzz of people, clamouring for the cheap booze (spirits under £2.40) and DJ nights until 3am! With pizza and a bottle of Peroni or such like for under £8 I'm certainly not complaining! Especially for the guys, they put on all the footy so added bonus if you're out and don't want to miss the match!

One of the best pizza places in the city and probably not even that well known by those living in…read morethe same area, the Pizza Parlour generally loses out to the Domino's, Papa John's et al situated nearby getting all the attention but if anyone in the south side of the city feels the need for the taste of a real pizza then head here or get it delivered. The Pizza Parlour is really a small restaurant that offers pizza and pasta in a more refined, but still casual, environment than many of us are used to unless going to Pizza Express. The Pizza Parlour is just as tasty as Pizza Express but not nearly as dear with it super size pizza - enough for three - only setting you back £11 for most toppings. There is also beer and wine which makes it some like more grown up experience but all of this can delivered if you still want to slob about in your pyjamas. Even though I do like a Domino's, you can still taste the difference here as the pizzas taste fresher and have a real home-made quality to them.

Set in a Tudor style building, the interior is not what you'd expect from the exterior. Last time I…read morewas here the restaurant was sparsely furnished and unfortunately lacked character. However, this is not reflected in the rest of the building, which has luxurious fittings and woodwork. The lunch time menu here is pretty decent and very reasonably priced, and as Lark Lane tends to be quieter in the daytime its the time I'd recommend going. The evening menu is your usual variety of pizza, pasta and meat, and all the mains are less than £20, so it's still reasonable. I know a few people have said that Maranto's isn't what it used to be, but then Lark Lane isn't what it used to be either. Attracting a different crowd these days, the businesses have no doubt had to change to keep up, and maybe that is why regulars at Maranto's feel as though standards have slightly slipped. Still, it is a beautiful building and still draws in many regulars and first-timers each week.

I like weird stuff on my pizza though, as you may have discovered after reading my Shiraz review. APS does 18 inch pizzas with every slice a different topping, if you so choose. When ordering with my mate, he will only ever eat margarita pizza, so I end up only have half a pizza with weird stuff on, but still. I'm talking parma ham, rocket, brie, anchovies....all sorts. And those four slices are practically a meal. In fact, I'm sure if you thought about it and chose your toppings carefully, those four slices would count as a balanced meal. My favourite is the meal deal: two garlic breads, two bottles of coke and and 18 incher for around £14. When you consider standard pizza delivery places charge that much for a bog standard pizza, its pretty good. And once you've phoned up once to order, they save your number so that next time you call, they already know what you want and where. I'm impressed by that. APS I love you.

Can anyone hear the word Friends without the theme tune following? Well, it's in my head now…read moreanyway. Opposite The Nile, Friends is another rather decent clay oven clad flame griller of the takeout ilk on that expansive stretch of Smithdown takeaways. Also, check the student deals if you need to fill a huge gap or have thrown the diet out of the window. Student meal: 10" pizza with two toppings, chips, two drinks...And a chicken fillet burger for £6.50! That is a serious amount of fastfood. We're not just friends now, we're blood brothers.

Friends was close to where I was staying and was told that it was the best spot for them ever so after a night out in Liverpool we went over and grabbed some. Maybe it's because I'm a pizza freak and the Shiraz Special (12" pizza with every topping on) satisfies my endless belly, or maybe it's the entertainment while you're waiting for your food, but this is always the last stop for me on a night out before I hop in a taxi. A typical takeaway, it serves your usual array of pizzas, chips, cheesy chips (which if you've never had before WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU?) and burgers, as well as meal deals which seem like such a good idea whether you're drunk or not. The staff are always friendly and endeavour to remember your orders and name if you're a regular. As Shiraz is right next to a taxi rank, sitting there in the early hours of the morning is never dull. You get an endless stream of drunks staggering through the door and I'd be very surprised if I ever went in there without seeing someone in fancy dress! As an added bonus, it is one of the only takeaways in the city that I can honestly say I've never felt ill after the food. Despite my high alcohol intake. One place to attempt to remember at 3am!
