There is no other garage in all of Los Angeles that I will ever trust with my car or any car. Here's the thing... If you need to have your car worked on and you want a fair deal and reliable work, you will not find another place in town betterment than Lou's. I stopped in for gas one day 7 years ago and he's been my guy ever since. read more

Customer service is horrible. The guy attending treats people like crap. Plenty other gas stations in the area.

Went here for a repair based on a friend's referral, and I couldn't be happier. They were kind, fair, and quick. Very impressed

You can't ask for better service. They've become our go-to on recommends for anyone that is out of their car warranty. They have reasonable prices and excellent service. They're HONEST. Saved our behinds more than once. read more

Wonderful service and always pleasant. Honest and reliable. So glad I found Lou's 76! Thank you Lou and team!

Lou and his team are the best. I have been using them for over 20 years and they're honest, friendly and most important very reasonable with the prices. If you own a BMW or Mercedes, this is the place to go, they will repair any brand of car. And the most important, they will always answer the phone. read more

My roommate Jody referred my to service part of the station. And they are Always sooooo helpful .... Thank you!!!

The team at Lou's Unocal are the best! Trustworthy and reliable! Great management! Great mechanics! and excellent service - above and beyond my expectations. read more

Gave it 3 stars because: 1- place is always clean 2- pumps always work 3- easy access Removed 2 stars: 1- Guy at register is usually a prick, especially about using the air machine 2- significantly pricier than the Mobile a block away. So, even though 76 is closer to my home and more convenient, after being a customer for about 6 months and getting rejected the two times I needed air for my bike tires, I now go a little out of my way to go to the Mobile station a block down. read more

I went in to get my air conditioning fixed. And they did an amazing job and for a fare price. Very happy with this business and all of the people who work there are very nice read more

Lou's Union 76 was a great service station back in the day. It was run by Lou and head mechanic Rick. My dad started coming when he moved to the valley in the 80s. All the old guys are gone now. Back to being treated like a number and not a customer. Would come here in an emergency if nearby. read more

Lou's is one of the few remaining full service gas stations! I would let their mechanics do any necessary work on my cars!

My husband and I trust Lou and his staff. We have had our cars serviced here for as long as I can remember. We have never been disappointed. They always go the "extra mile." read more

AVOID THESE PEOPLE. This would be -4 if I could. The owner actually called to yell at me, hollering over anything I tried to say, and threatened me after damaging my car--in for an estimate because I drive long distances, after I called him when my car barely made it home from his service station when it made it there so easily, I almost didn't leave it it was driving so nicely. When I dropped it off, Louis the mechanic accompanied me home in the car (no starter problem, no squeaking). I wasn't sure if they'd find anything. I should have realized they'd make up problems, but I trusted them based on a recommendation. Some people excel at denial, which is easier when they refuse to give you any paperwork. When that did not work, they try intimidation and threats! I had the advantage of seeing an honest mechanic previously, so the condition of my car was known. He advised getting a second opinion since I have a long drive ahead in an older, but reliable car which I over-baby. After promising a free estimate, Louis wanted $120 to fix a starter problem that didn't exist until they created it. I had a mechanic drive with me home before he drove it back to the station to be checked. It didn't nearly stop at signals, low idle, or shudder when I turned the car off until they got ahold of it. They said no one touched the car, but somehow diagnosed hundreds in damages, yet would put nothing in writing. The mechanic did not hear squeak or notice problems, until it was left with him--Louis, rather than Lou, the owner, the one who called to yell at me when I said I'd share the experience on Yelp. And face it, why be like that if it's not a pattern. Initially I was told it would be 45 minutes and I could wait for the car; then I would have to leave it overnight. When I called them for a report, they told me the starter was shot (they weren't my first opinion; no one else said that). And named all the parts that had recently been replaced. They wanted $120 to fix the starter that was not damaged prior to their having the car. The car I dropped up was not the one I picked up. It normally idles at 1500 rpm, and it was down to the point where it almost shut off at stoplights and shuttered to a stop when I got it home. I advise against this place unless you can "car talk." If you are an innocent, avoid it . A car I got there easily barely made it home. With nothing in writing, it's hard to prove. The only thing these people are good at is denial They had the car for over 5 hours and claimed they'd never touched it, though how they "diagnosed" hundreds of dollars of work needed without touching it, coming up with 6 problems, refusing a written estimate, is beyond me. Last thing the owner yelled was to never go back there--no problem! read more

Legendary. Been having my cars repaired here for over 25 years. Discovered them by luck when I moved from Hollywood to Toluca Lake. When I told a friend who lived here I found the best and most honest mechanic in LA she just looked at me and said "Oh, you mean Lou's?" lol THEE best! read more

So like many people I am weary of mechanics due to fear they will claim things are wrong with my car that aren't. The Fred-man suggested I check out the place he has been taking his cars for the past 15 years. The manager is a really nice and genuine guy named Rick, who LeFred said has always kept his cars running. He explains to you the issue and even warns you about possible issues that you might want to look into; mine were my tires. I would highly recommend you taking your car there, but I can only back that claim up if you are dealing with Rick. Updated 9/5/07!!! Rick saved my life once again as due to the heat my car finally gave out. I am not car savvy at all so I don't know what it takes to make things work. Rick had warned me last time about an issue with my car and it came to bite my in the butt these past few days. This is the 2nd time I've met Rick and I like the fact that he explains to you everything that is wrong with you car and lets you know what needs to be dealt with now and in the future. Mechanics (like lawyers) sometimes are given a bad rap, but I say trust Rick. read more

I am pretty clueless about mechanics and where to take my car for repairs, so when I looked online and found these guys, I was really hoping they would be as great as the reviews said and now I can totally say I'm a happy customer myself! Lou provided me with awesome customer service and I felt at total ease leaving my car in these guys hands! I will definitely be recommending them to family and friends!!!! read more

Re: Car Repair Some of my more affluent Toluca Lake friends turned me on to Lou's 76 for CAR REPAIR. They said they trust Lou (the owner) and Rick (the guy who runs the car repair section) implicitly. And since they trust their very expensive cars to Lou's 76 who am I to argue? Over the last fifteen years I've taken numerous cars to Lou's and they've always treated me well. I trust that, (1) they'll do a bang up job and, (2) they'll be totally honest. Quick story: My Acura began turning off on the freeway for no apparent reason. Yeah, not good. I went into Lou's 76. A few hours later I got a call from Rick saying, "Good news, bad news. Bad news is something very expensive needs to be replaced. Good news is, it's on Acura's recall list." They then put the whole dashboard back together. I offered to pay them for their time, but Rick refused. He said, "You're a good customer. You'll be back." And he was right. I've been back. And I refer everyone I know without hesitation. This is literally as good as it gets. read more

Lou's 76 Rocks! They have been servicing my 2000 BMW 528 and 2001 Chevy Suburban for years. The folks at the local BMW dealership recommended them. They said that Lou's fixes all the used BMW's for the dealership. Ever since then, I have been using them. With an older BMW, you need a true friend that will look out for your best interest. Lou is that friend. Rick the service manager and his team are the best that I have ever used to service my cars. Honest to the bone, and cost effective. They want a customer for life, not just a quick buck. I appreciate that philosophy. I highly recommend Lou's 76. I put the safety of driving my kids in their hand every day! read more

When my car started smoking on the drive into work yesterday morning, I had it towed to Lou's 76 on the recommendation of a coworker. I was not disappointed. Rick took a look and instantly figured out the problem, showed me the source, and said he would have it done in a couple of hours. On top of all this, since I work down the street, he gave me a ride (with good conversation including recommendations for the best breakfast places in the area!) and even offered to pick me up when the car was done! The price was reasonable and stayed true to the estimate. Super easy pickup - your keys and bill go to the cashier so you can grab your car after hours. So glad to have found an honest, quick mechanic so close to the office, and the fact that it is family owned makes it even better. Go to Lou's! read more

A client of mine recommended this shop for car service and I was skeptical of either receiving a competitive price or the quality of work, since it's also a gas station. But I sure was wrong. Rick provided me a bid over the phone which I compared to other shops around the surrounding area and his bid actually came out a littile bit lower than the rest. Rick sounded genuine over the phone but I was still a bit uncomfortable since I had never done business with them before. I sure was pleasantly suprised by their professionalism, quality of work, and honesty. Honesty is very hard to come by with most auto repair shops so when you find one, it's a keeper. While on my first visit, I ran into the actor from Quantum Leap and Star Trek. He was doing business with Union 76 as well, so it seems obvious that he's very satisfied with their work too. Anyway, they're very upfront with any repairs and even exceeded my expectations by looking into an electrical issue I was having, which they didn't even charge me for. I just went back again since my serpentine belt was squeeling a lot. The mechanic conditioned my belt and even lubricated my door handles since I was having trouble opening both of my car doors. Guess how much they charged me? Nada! I even went down the street to the EZ lube, which they spilled oil over my CV boots and did not properly clean the mess up. Plus, EZ lube lost parts that holds down my air filter compartment which will cost me over $100 to fix since Ford doesn't make the parts anymore. Moral of the story: I'm going to Union 76 for my oil changes from now on! So don't mess around by taking a chance somewhere else and get ripped off--especially you ladies! Ask for Rick, you can tell him you found him on Yelp. If you want to get in shape, tone up and look great, then look me up too--Extreme Burn Boot Camp for a screaming deal! read more

It's hard to find a car repair shop one can trust, but I feel like I have. I called around and priced parts for my car and they were the most reasonable, so combine that with the yelp reviews and I decided to give them a shot a couple of weeks ago to replace some belts and do some other work my 15 year old car needed. He found more affordable solutions to some of my car problems, which I appreciated. Cut to last week and backing out of my space on my way to work, I took off my own side mirror. Aarrrggghhh. I drove right to here, and they said they could get me an aftermarket part to save me some money and could do it by the time I got off work. They also took me to and picked me up from the Metro, which was a big plus. Rick was a really nice guy and a big help. They will definitely be my go-to now and I would highly recommend them. read more

I had spent a long time trying to find a mechanic I trusted - and found what I was looking for at Lou's. His employees take the time to really explain what they are going to repair on your car and why. I have nothing but good things to say about them. His prices for repairs are competitive for the quality I have received. I used to have an office right across the street from them, and that was the reason I originally gave them a shot, but we have moved since then, and I still take my car to them, and will as long as they exist. read more

I dread the idea of not being able to take my car here. Gave this place a try on the strong recommendation of a friend and I'm passing it on here. It's everything you'd want in a neighborhood garage: no hard sells, no pushing work that isn't needed, no salesmanship, just straight talk from Rick. I've never felt they've taken longer than needed, and never had to wait to bring car in either. Prices are honest and fair. For a job that isn't their forte (ex, catalytic converter) they sent me to place that was also fair. Convenient too- you can drop off or pick up car after hours with the station attendant. read more

If you buy gas here, don't expect to squeegee your car windows. Around noon one day there was no water at all in the bins for washing windows. This week around mid afternoon there were no paper towels in the dispenser. My hands got so dirty from the squeegee handle that I needed a towel. Both times the man in the building showed no interest in my problem even though the station was not busy. The Chevron a block away was full of cars. Since they had the same price maybe service made the difference. read more

After calling a couple of automobile repair shops early this morning, I decided to take my older, very low mileage car into Lou's Union 76 station on Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake. The decision to try them was strongly influenced by my phone conversation with Rick, the Manager. He took the time to price out my inquiry over the phone but cautioned me that my very recent rough running engine may or may not be the spark plugs (my suggestion) and knowledgeably related several other possibilities. The mechanic, Vardan, accurately diagnosed the problem to be a failing electronic ignition module, although he noted that the spark plugs and ignition wires could also use replacing. I opted to not have the spark plugs and ignition wires done at this time and there was NO pressure to have them done on this visit. I have driven by this repair facility for many years and have noticed that there always seemed to be a number of cars being worked on there . . . now I can see why . . . I was in and out in under 3 hours, and as a walk-in, considering the work that was done along with the diagnosis of my car's other mechanical needs, I felt that the amount of time that my car was there was very reasonable. I should also mention that my car was ready about an hour earlier than I had originally been told. I have been driving for over 57 years and have had many cars repaired and serviced over that time, many at the automobile dealerships. This was one of my very best experiences. Dealerships have no advantage over Lou's Union 76 station, unless you consider paying higher prices some sort of an advantage. The next time you have a need for an automobile repair, consider calling Lou's Union 76 station. Ask for Rick, although he will probably be the one answering the phone anyway! read more

What can I say? I love Rick and everyone at Lou's Unocal. I've been taking my car(s) to Lou's ever since I first moved to Los Angeles, and they've never steered me wrong. Rick and his team are honest, thoughtful and always make sure that your car is in tip-top running order. They never recommend unnecessary repairs, and are always happy to try and squeeze you in for an appointment (these guys are busy!). Rick and Lou were also very helpful when I had to quickly sell a car a few years ago. If you own a Toyota, you're in luck! It's their specialty. Even though I've long since moved away from the neighborhood, I always make a point to drive back to the Valley to get my oil changed at Lou's. read more
