The crafting of leather – an art as old as man- metaphorically joins past and present, evoking insight tied to our experience. Things made by hand: this is the hallmark of a new low-tech concept that shuns all chemical treatments, reviving forgotten skills and giving products a patina that immediately lends them a familiar air, like inseparable companions on the long journey of life. The family of stylized figures – man, woman, child, dog – embroidered with the same colourful waxed thread we use to stitch our products, is the naïf decorative motif linked to the spirit of our very first items, and over the years it has come to symbolize our brand. Used alone, the little stick figure appears on every product to signal the style of the collections: low-key elegance that is renewed season after season yet never loses its ties with tradition. Because it is based on the solid values of natural materials and ancient craftsmanship. Classic, yet distinguished by a hint of “naturalism” linking the products to the origins of a brand created through the pleasure of working with our hands. This little stick figure, embroidered in big stitches, unites “doing” with “playing”. It tells a story that, after twenty years, has remained the same but has always discovered new expressions.

I came to Aspen recently to celebrate my birthday and found my way to Kemo Sabe. I waited in line…read moreto enter the store for about thirty minutes, due to waiting to be paired with a sales associate. I'm not sure if that was just because it was the holiday season, but they did not allow anyone in the store without being accompanied by an associate. Once I was paired, the associate gave me a complimentary cocktail and started sizing me for hats. I did feel she was a bit pushy, heavily suggesting certain colors even when I shared my own preferences. As I started on accessories, I did not feel like I was being shown all of the options and only those with a price tag over $1000 (on top of the price of the hat itself). I took it upon myself to search and find what I really liked, but the pushiness of the associate made the experience less enjoyable and rather stressful. Overall I am happy with my purchase, but I would recommend anyone coming in to come prepared with the style you want because the process can be overwhelming otherwise.

The first day we didn't buy anything, but today I found a cute hat that I HAD to have and we were planning on buying many more items as well, however, as I was walking past the counter to the back of the store, the above mentioned woman came out from behind the counter and asked if I wanted to buy the hat, to which I replied yes, she then asked if I was finished shopping, and I said not yet and tried to walk past her, but she stopped me and grabbed the hat, ripping it out of my hand!! She she needed to hold it behind the counter. She made me feel like she suspected I might steal the hat!! I was mortified and horribly offended!! And all this over a $50 baseball cap!! I have never been treated so rudely or unprofessionally at a place of business. We also visited Hermes today and I walked around the store holding six items that we ended up purchasing, PLUS a purse, and we were treated with courtesy, kindness and professionalism and believe it or not, not one employee tried to rip anything out of my hands. ‍ Needless to say, I will NEVER step foot in Pitkin County Dry Goods again. Considering multiple reviews with similar experiences, I would suggest to others not to visit this shop either...well at least not until that woman is no longer working there.

But of course, the opening night can always be hyped up so I came back two weeks later (and yes, this is my excuse for shopping more here). The selection of clothing here is amazing. From warm, thick fabric to light, flowy ones- you'll find an array of options to step up your closet's game. This is the perfect shop for someone who likes to dress rocker chic, modern rustic, or even as a professional free spirit. Think military with a twist of silky, flowy cuts. Or attitude with class. Or rose gold spikes with soft luxury. The prints, fabrics, and cuts are lovely for work and comfortable enough for daily wear. I wanted to take everything home and even sleep in some of them! Even the decorative pieces were cute; I had to fight the temptation to steal them! The prices were actually very reasonable. While yes... it's not competing with your favorite outlet or discount store where a shirt is $25. The shirts were around $50 to $300 but they were high quality, super comfortable, and a great investment in a quality wardrobe. They had a designer feel at a very reasonable rate. The only thing I would wish to see change in this store is cutting out fur and adding matte jewelry. I saw fox fur... and there were more I didn't investigate with. While I love to look hot and feel great in what I wear, wearing a dead animal's skin will only bring me down. Cruelty is never fashionable. As for matte jewelry, I'm not one for bling. Yes, I know- I'm not normal in the Aspen world. But I love matte jewelry of gold, rose gold, and silver without any bling. It just makes me feel more professional while still embracing my feminine side. I think that's just me though. In short, if you're the kind who likes wearing a gorgeous modern print on a silky, long sleeve shirt over 'leather' pants, sky-high platform heels, and a cute spiky crossover bag- this is the place for you. Rock on, love.

Store was closed so I returned the next morning when they opened. Sales associate said "Oh, you found my mistake!". Told me that she phoned her daughter-in-law (Natashia Kapp) and she issued a credit. No copy was presented and did not appear on the website at that time. When the amount was questioned she said "Oh, my son (Jeramiah Kapp-the owner) said only the furs were 50% off not the leather goods". So his wife deducted the overcharge based on the full price of the wallet. WHAT! I replied "You can't raise the price AFTER the sale that you told me about. She said her daughter in law refused to credit the $200.00 overpay that was their fault. The sales associate told us to buy another wallet! After explaining the legalities of this and that fact that we didn't want another wallet (which was already overpriced) she phoned her daughter in law again. She knew where I was staying (same complex) and my name, yet made no attempt the previous day to contact me about the "mistake".
