Was not a good divorce attorney, find a different one. He may be good at mediation but not for a contested divorce.

Lanza & Lanza - untitled

Lanza & Lanza

I had a horrible experience with Lanza and Lanza LLP. I…read moreneeded counsel regarding a family estate litigation issue. I called Lanza and Lanza for an appointment. I interviewed John (the younger). His rate was $400 an hour (no free consultation). I understood and agreed. I stated my case and he seemed well versed. I hired him, paid him for his time, plus a retainer and went home. My case initiated in July of 2019 and was adjudicated in April 2021, 22 months. Here are the problems I experienced...... Phone calls and emails immediately went unanswered. When I eventually got a hold of him, he leveled with me. John told me that he is a politician and was in the middle of campaign season. He apologized and said he would be more responsive and return all calls and emails within 24 hours. He seemed sincere and promised me that after Election Day, Nov 5, 2019, things would change. They didn't change. I should have terminated my agreement with him at that point, but he convinced me to stay on. Calls and emails continued to go unreturned and unanswered for months. Unbeknownst to me at the time, he was embroiled in a personal legal entanglement. I uncovered this during a routine internet search after the fact. The issue was ultimately resolved in Feb of 2020. I imagine that this took up much of his time. Furthermore John is a municipal attorney for several surrounding towns. This, obviously, encompassed even more of his time. Services were billed and paid monthly. At first, I was being billed at a paralegal rate for administrative work. I questioned this and John agreed that his $400 an hour rate included administration. As to the current charges, he suggested "splitting the difference". I reluctantly acquiesced and paid him. I was over-billed on at least 3 subsequent monthly charges, where in I refused to pay and he agreed to drop the service charges. As things progressed, during the time from 2020 through 2021, communication with John went from bad to worse. I was told that in order to speak with John, I would need to schedule a phone call in 2-3 weeks. His reason - he was very, very busy. The final bill included a charge ($850) for something I did not recognize. When questioned, I was told it was research completed by some lawyer he hired. I asked for the work product and he sent be copies of some case law. I told him it was unacceptable. I wanted a written summary authored by his hire. Anyone could have made copies. After a couple of months, he finally agreed to drop the charges in order to close the case. Lastly, as part of the settlement, I was awarded two of my mom's fur coats. To date, (June 2022) I have never been contacted or received the outerwear. I would not recommend using his services, at least not for any litigation. He was simply too busy (his words, not mine). I don't think he should have accepted my case.

I absolutely would NOT recommend using this law firm. My mother used their services to draw up her…read morewill and Lanza and Lanza was to keep the original on file. Now, years later after I called and asked about the will they had no record of it and didn't even know who my mother was. As you can imagine this is a difficult time and hoped to easily retrieve the will to proceed. After several calls, Janice finally decided to go and look through the wills on file and it was found. It shouldn't take several phone calls to get something as important as a will. This was my experience, let this be your guide.
