Beleek Woods are situated just off the Killala Road on the banks of the River Moy. It was part of…read morethe estate of Beleek Castle (which is now a hotel). The woodland was quite overgrown but extensive work is being done to bring Beleek back to its former glory. There are many trails for walking and cycling. Many locals use it for sports training or walking their dogs. There are some lovely view of the River Moy and the pretty houses on the other side of the river. there is an abundance of wildlife in Beleek.There are red squirels in the woods. I heard them but did not see them. However I did spot some bluetits bringing food back to their young in one of the nesting boxes in the trees. Also in the woods is a Lime Kiln and an amazing memorial to one of the owners of the castle who is buried there with his horses! A really nice place to spend some time if the day is fine.Pack a picnic :-)

The Jealousy Wall is both grotesque and impressive. I can only imagine the intense anger and hatred someone would have to intentionally put up a hideous wall to separate yourself from family. Our visit was on a day of true Irish weather, rainy, windy, and cold. Walk through the gardens and let both nature and man-made architecture fascinate you. We enjoyed our Irish breakfast at their cafe. Restrooms are clean and parking was readily available (we were the only crazy visitors that rainy day).

We were told that the house was open as we wanted to see it and on arrival, but only after tendering the tickets and going through into the place did we find the house was shut and the glasshouse was shut. There were no signs or indications that the house was shut - it's almost dishonest. Had we known it was shut we wouldn't have bothered. So like many other people that day we effectively paid to walk round a park and lake when we could just as easily have walked around the lake and a nearby picnic area for free. There is a lovely cafe and coffee bar in the grounds that merits at least 4 stars but there's equally good cafes around that you don't have to pay just to get in. They also have dog kennels to leave pooch as pooches aren't allowed in the gardens but pooches can accompany owners around the lake and a nearby picnic area outside for free. I'd better stop writing as I dislike being ripped off and the more I think of it I'd be inclined to drop this to 2 stars.

Beautiful! Merrion Square is by far the prettiest and best kept park that I have ever been in…read more Everything is so green and tidy! The grass, the flowers planted at the perimeters, the winding paths...it's all perfect! This is a great park for laying in the grass to read or people-watch. The best part of this park by far is the gorgeous statue of Oscar Wilde, sprawled out on a rock looking smug. The statue is in the northwest corner of the park facing Oscar's childhood home at 1 Merrion Square. Next to the rock are a couple of pillars that have some of Oscar's best quotes etched in the stone. Georgian homes surround the park and they're just as much fun to look at as the park. I've heard that on Sundays the railings surrounding the park are hung with work from local artists; all for sale. I'll have to visit on a Sunday next time!

I just learned up until the 1960's Merrion Square Park used to be open only to the Merrion Square residents. This park is lovely and the area surrounding the park is so worth visiting just to gauk at the buildings surrounding the park.
