Officially renamed in 1965 to John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, Eyre Square is a roughly rectangular park at the center of Galway. Perfect for a picnic or just sitting on a blanket and watching the double decker buses as they rotate around the square. On the weekend, you can expect market vendor stalls to be set up with trinkets, coffee, pastries and much more. You'll find the sculpture of Pádraic Ó Conaire that was unveiled in 1935. This is a centrally located park in Galway. Chances are you'll walk through it if you're in Galway. There's some neat art, a line of flags, and grassy space. It seems to be well-kept and is certainly pretty in the summertime. I wouldn't call it a destination by any means, but it is a nice slice of green space in the middle of the little city. read more

Galway is a fun little town for a day or two. After the busy Latin Quarter you might wanna relax a bit. The Eyre Square is an option for that with its green lawns. It is surrounded by streets with various shops and food options, if you need any of that. The square itself is fine, more a park than a square.... it's pretty much how you would image a little park in a city. Benches, flowers, trees, fountains....No more - no less. It's not thrilling or a must-do. But when you're in town you might wanna check it out. There might be some special occasions like concerts or stuff going on sometimes that might add to this attraction. But on a normal day it's just a small park. read more

Eyre Square is a pretty cool area, though we certainly benefited from being there in December so the square was very festive - lots of games, vendors with snacks and drinks, a ferris wheel, bar, and decorations. Fun chill mood. read more

Its really worth missing. I don't know what it is about me but I'm pre disposed to disliking places that charge folk to use the toilets. Here it's 20 cents and you ain't walking into luxury, no way. I mean this is merely a shopping centre with 70 stores, nothing more, nothing less with the usual clothes, shoe, phone etc stores found in any half decent Main Street in UK & Ireland. If my local shopping centre charged me to use their toilets I'd simply never return, in fact had I known before going in that they charged for toilets I would not have bothered. And I'll never return to this place. There's Costa, Burger King too but none offer toilets when they really should, after all they are happy to take your money to fill you with food and drink. So the upshot is that I refused to spend a cent in the place. There are seats to sit down but not in main concourses where the only seating is once you pay to eat or drink. Oh they also offer an hour free wifi - how measly. I then walked out from it into the main town and formed the view as I walked that I should instead go to Westport and I did. Won't rush back to Galway because it's a tourist trap with mean capitalism in abundance and very little parking as it's overcrowded. read more

This seems like an ideal square for small get-together's and small concerts. It is a nice green area in the middle of the city and when I was there, there was a band from Cork playing. Unfortunately the square is surrounded by touristy pubs and too much traffic but that is the only downside. read more

This is just a small centrally located park that we only used for a short cut to get to the train station. Saw lots of skateboarders having fun. I guess if you want to sit on some green grass with a picnic or something it would be okay but be careful which way the wind is blowing since the pay toilets are there and boy do they stink! read more

Eyre Square is a park in the the middle os Galway City which is in Ireland. Eyre Square is a rectanglar shape, which is surounded by streets and it near to the city centre. Eyre Square was presented to the city of Galway by Major Edward Eyre in 1710. In 2004 redevelopment work took place there. In April 2006 the Square reopened to the public, it costed £9.6 Million. In 1965 the Square was renamed to Kennedy Memorial Park in honour of the U.S president John. F. Kennedy, who visited the Square before he got assassinated in 1963, But later they changed the name of the square back to Eyre Square again. A lovely square with plenty of lawn space and performers to catch an impromptu gig or a solo act. It's quite nice to spend time here strolling about, sitting with a friend, or listening to an artist. It's very well maintained and manicured with roses and flowers. It's also sits at the gateway of the downtown area with the bus/train hub near by and several shops and restaurants lining its sides. It's worth a visit, whether quick or short. read more

Beautiful little spot full of people and college girls ha but i seen a fully grown man run shit scared from a pigeon the man run for his life shouting at the bird to leave him alone and stay where it was so strange and funny at the same time ha there is loads of shops around and pubs, clubs,hotels this is the best part of Galway and its full of college girls so thats awesome :) read more

An unfortunate example of the Celtic tiger gone mad.old Victorian square torn down and replaced with what your left with now,a series of footpaths. Nothing to see now. read more
