We spend hours one fine afternoon walking the grounds of Belleek Woods. The woods are situated along with the banks of the River Moy and extend northwards beyond Ballina.
There are 100's of acres of mature trees, with miles in winding pathways. It is very easy to walk and very suitable for kids on bikes or trikes.
The signage says that Belleek Wood is one of the largest urban forest parks in Europe.
In the midst of the woods is Belleek Castle, a fabulous looking mansion set on a hill across a vast front lawn.
The wood has a lovely duck pond, ideal for the kids to feed. The pond has a large squirrel made of wicker.
The river bank also contains to ruins of an old Ice House. How this was used I have no idea.
The view across the Moy estuary is brilliant, with the Ice House Hotel and Crockets Restaurant in the distance. We later had some food (and drinks) at Crockets.
This is a vast area and a few hours are needed to appreciate it. read more
