You get on a boat with a "guide" who gives you a few facts and rows you to the end of the lake and back. It takes about 15-20 min. Kind of crummy that you are asked for tips when you leave the boat. It was discovered in 1943 after an earthquake, and there's another set of caves behind it which aren't accessible by the boats that you ride in to look at this one. The tour is pretty short, like 20 minutes, but the guides are fun/silly and you can ask them anything. There's a bar in the waiting area (also a gift shop with lots of doo dads) where you can get a nice beer before your boat trip. It's only 10 CHF so pretty affordable!

It is a short walk up a hill from the town of Sion to visit the two castles sitting on opposite hills form each other. The castle unfortunately was ruined during a great fire, that also destroyed part of the town of Sion in 1788. However, there is still a small chapel at the center of the castle ruins that is well preserved. However, the chapel is locked and you can only gain entrance with a tour or guide. Thankfully, on the day my group of friends went, I happened upon the volunteer guide ending his tour with a couple of visitors. He was kind enough to take me on a personal tour of the chapel and up into one of the remaining towers. It would have been an impressive place at one time, if it wasn't mostly destroyed.

We booked a visit in advance for a self-guided tour. Schools from Switzerland visit for free (except weekends and vacations). But let's talk about the history just quick: The Château de Gruyères was built between 1270 and 1282 to serve as the seat of the powerful Counts of Gruyères. After the bankruptcy of the last count in 1554, the castle was managed by bailiffs from Fribourg before transitioning into a private summer residence for the Bovy and Balland families in 1849. Since 1938, the Canton of Fribourg has owned the estate, transforming it into a popular museum that showcases eight centuries of regional architecture, history, and art. Many parts of the Chateau are open to visit on several floors. Lots of rooms (including the kitchen, the Knights room, bedrooms....) to check out. Informative plates and displays all around. All kept in very great shape with staff present as well. You can walk the rampart also, very cool with impressive views. The garden is wonderfully presented and you can walk around the Chateau as well (at least partly). Views over the valley and mountains are breathtaking. The courtyard is a nice place to take a rest and to enjoy more views. A really rewarding visit and definitely a highlight in this village. Staff was great. There's a small shop, toilets and some lockers for your backpacks. We will definitely be back. One of the prettiest Chateaus in the country in my opinion.

The cobblestone streets, the preserved old buildings, and then the castle rising at the top -- all like something out of a postcard. We didn't go inside, but wandering around the exterior and the surrounding grounds was more than enough to make the stop memorable. The views of the rolling green hills and mountains are stunning, especially on a clear day. There are plenty of spots to take photos, and the scenery alone makes it worth the climb. The area around the castle is peaceful and beautifully maintained, perfect for a relaxed stroll. Even if you're short on time or just passing through for cheese and chocolate, stopping to admire the château from the outside is a must.

The facilities are cleaned daily and are kept immaculate. And the staff are the friendliest I've encountered in awhile. Also, their staff all speak perfect English. A short walk (1-2mins) into the town will provide you with the bakery, butchers, mini-mart, etc and numerous tourist/local bars & pubs. On the same land as the campsite, is a seasonal adventure activities centre. This offers river rapid days-outs, sky diving, and other extreme sports and adventure activities for all levels of experience! Yelp Review 2026 #122:…read more A fun thing to do and an amazing place to visit. I got with a discount for being a Swiss Travel Pass holder. The bus stop is right in front of this place so it's super easy to get to. I got here a few minutes after they opened. So, there were quite a few people without being crowded. Except some of the people who were there were obnoxiously loud and it echoes through the cave. There are signs posted to be quiet but some people choose to ignore signs. There are parts that are a bit slick, some parts you have to bend a little bit as the ceiling is low, there are steps and stairs, it's chilly since it's a cave. Si, be sure to bring a jacket and wear the right shoes. Be mindful of those with mobility issues, they might have to wait for you at the restaurant (it's still a steep trek though) while you tour the cave. A lot of people would take breaks on the way to the entrance. Bring water. Each part of the cave is numbered so just follow the numbers - however the arrows can be confusing. I got to number 18 and didn't know where to go I ended going back to where I came from so I walked back to 18, walked the opposite direction and made it to 19-22 before exiting. "According to a legend, St. Beatus lived here in the 2nd century, who was believed to be one of the Irish messengers of the faith. After his arrival, Beatus is said to have driven away the dragon dwelling in the cave and then settled there to preach the teachings of Christianity and heal the sick." You'll see St. Beatus' cell, stalactites, stalagmites, and grottoes. You can have a nice view of Lake Thun from here.

The views from the top and outside are truly magical, overlooking a massive lake that makes the entire visit feel surreal. QUICK heads-up... there is quite a bit of walking and many steps, and some areas can be slippery, so it may not be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. That said, if you're able to do the walk, it's 100% worth it. A truly beautiful and memorable experience.

Yelp Review 2026 #116:…read more Staubbach Falls look like a page from a fairytale book. It's stunning and dreamlike. Lauterbrunnen is famous for having 72 waterfalls. Taking the train from Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen, this is the first waterfall you'll see. You'll see 2 smaller ones within a quarter to half mile hike. You'll see flowers and lots of cows. The best angle is actually when you first see the waterfall. Not when you get closer or take a picture in front of it. It looks bigger from the side. There's a climb using stairs that would lead you to get closer to the waterfall. It's crowded and a lot of slow climbers. Be sure to eat before or after you start venturing to the other waterfalls. There are plenty of options between Staubbach Falls and the train station.

It's an easy walk from the village, which makes it accessible for all ages, and there's a short path that lets you get closer for an amazing view (and a little splash!). There are also several other less famous falls in the area as well as cows grazing in the field if you walk or bike into the village. The surrounding scenery is unreal: green meadows, steep cliffs, and charming Swiss chalets everywhere you look. It's peaceful, awe-inspiring, and perfect for photos.

Since I'm in Switzerland for 2 weeks, I can afford a few days of just winging it. That's how I stumbled upon Schloss Hünegg. I saw a building I thought was Schloss Hünegg but it wasn't it! It was private property - oops! It looks like there was an event here the day before because there were tents and tables that were being put away when I got here. The garden has a nice view of the lake and mountains. This was one of the castles I visited in Switzerland. It's easy to get to by bus and you have to walk through a park covered by trees.
