This store has a great variety of things to buy. I was doing a big project in my back yard this summer and found that they had a bunch of different plants to choose from I had them deliver 10 yards of mulch and a couple of yards of stone. The pricing was more than fair as I had them deliver more mulch to finish areas in my front yard. I have since stopped into the store for other things such as tools and light bulbs and I found the staff to be very nice and helpful. Great place to shop vs the Big Box stores where employees don't even look you in the eye. read more

I have shopped here for years, I saw there was a help wanted sign and encouraged my 16 year old to apply. He got hired and started the next day. It was hard work (which we knew going in). We knew Bill, the owner had a reputation for being a jerk. What we didn't realize is he is a threatening, abusive psycho. My son is pretty even tempered and a hard worker. He is 6'4 and about 200 pounds. The owner Bill, kept telling him how much money he had. "I have more money than you" my son said, "well I'm 16 so...." Then Bill found out my son works out at an MMA gym, he started saying how he could kick his a$$, and come on, hit me. My son was like, dude no. On this past Sunday, Bill had my son doing a task in the back of the store. The boss, Bill helped him set up the station and then stepped away from the building and went outside (my son had zero clue where he went). My son continued to do the given task and then got called up to the front by a co-worker to help a customer. He left the task at hand to go help the customer for 2 minutes and then came back and immediately resumed the task at hand. Bill asked him "where were you?" my son responded with "I'm sorry I didnt tell you, I got called to the front to help a customer" Bill says "you need to work on your communication skills" ,my son nodded and said "well I didnt know where you went; I'm sorry. I'll look for you next time" . Bill replied "if you want to stay here you need to communicate better. Without communication you won't get anywhere in life. How many poor old people do you know?" My son responded "I personally don't know any poor old people." Bill then says "you're missing the FUCKING POINT. Why do people go broke?" My son responded "lack of money?" Bill asks "why don't they have money?" My son says "they don't have a job?" then Bill says "why dont they have a job?" My son starts to respond and immediately gets interrupted by Bill screaming "COMMUNICATION" then continues and says "when your boss beats the fuck out of you for not communicating, who's fault is that?" I have read the other one-star reviews about Lots & More, and I can't believe they are talking about the same two stores that I shop in. I have been shopping in both locations for most of my gardening needs because I believe in supporting smaller business instead of Big Box, and have never had any problems with the merchandise or the staff. In fact, the staff has always been above and beyond helpful and friendly. We just bought some plants and they are healthy and large, and the store also offers smaller versions for less cost, giving customers a choice depending on budget. I bought some small succulents that I'm going to plant together in a dish garden, and when I show them to people, they give me a WOW reaction. I have never been disappointed in this store in all the years I've been shopping there. read more

I bought 2 bags of the 2 cubit ft miracle grow potting soil. The sign said the price was 11.99 (as shown in photo). When I went to check out, they charged me 13.99. I left the store briefly, then turned around when I realized the mistake and there was a man at the register (though a woman rang me out). I explained the price difference and he told me "yeah, they just throw those signs wherever". I pressed the issue a little further then he said "sorry miss, but the price is 13.99" while pointing at the listed prices next to the register, which read 13.99. Just giving you guys a heads up that the prices they have listed in front of the items, even though the signs describe the items accurately, are likely not accurate. Absolutely terrible business. Avoid at all cost. There are plenty of other equipment rental places and flower/landscape places in the area. A male employee (possibly the owner) absolutely exploded on a customer today while I was shopping in the store. Screaming and pointing at the ceiling saying "we're going live!" All while berating the customer and embarrassing other customers not involved by yelling, I don't care, I will make a scene in front of all these customers! For Unknown reasons, He began shouting extremely loud at me (as if he didn't take his medication ). I went to the E Htfd location the week of 3/18 to get a price on 40lb pelletized lime . It was $ 4.49 a bag . Less than OSJL but more than HD . So to support the local small business I went to Odd Lots. During week of 3/25 went to Odd Lot to get two bags . The price went up to $ 4.99 a bag . The quality was poor at best . The lime was more power than pellet . It was very powery and clumpy like it got wet was not pellets . Very hard to apply with a broadcast spreader . I would have gone back with the second bag but there is a HUGE sign stating no return for seasonal items . I now know why the sign was there . Knowing the awful customer service there and not willing to argue I sucked it up and struggled with the second bag . I will still try to support small businesses but I refuse to be taken advantage of . I'll knowingly pay more to not give a thief my money . read more

I witnessed the most disturbing incident at this store today. The owner literally degraded and yelled at a mother who had two small children with her. She left in tears. The owner of the store continued to yell and jump around in a furious rage at her. He told her to go home and watch Fox news, not CNN. I gathered there was a dispute over a price. He also made fun of her for crying and made an announcement over the intercom that was heard inside and outside about the price of a power washer. It was horrifying. The mother was totally non confrontational. I left my cart full of flowers - over $100.00 worth as this owner does not deserve mine or anyone's business. If I could give this a zero star review I would. I always loved coming here and today had the worst experience in my 43 years. I never write negative reviews but the way I watched this elderly woman just treated was insane. I am in line and ask my 7 year old daughter to grab a small kiddie pool for our dog. So while she is getting the pool, I let this woman in her 60's go in front of me. The next thing I hear is the cashier getting louder and louder with the woman. It sounded like she was asking for a price check and he told her he is really busy and that she needed to go check herself. Yes people, good customer service is dead. She then (in a fairly calm voice) asked him why he was getting loud with her...as she was just trying to clarify some pricing. He explained that the price is clearly written on the sign and continued to escalate the situation. She asked to speak to the manager and he said....you're looking at him. Finally after a few minutes of this the Cashier was literally yelling at this woman. I never once heard her raise her voice or anything. He told her this is HIS property and told her she can leave now! They went back and forth and at this point my 7 year old was scared and wanted to know why this guy was yelling at this woman. So I finally spoke up and said.... Time out guys...I have a 7 year old daughter here and she doesn't really need to hear this. That is when this cashier pointed at me and said.....NO! You get out too! I was floored?!?! What the hell did I do? I went to a store and expect the Manager/Owner to NOT scream at customers?!?! So I dropped everything on the floor and walked out. Solid place to get mulch, stone, plants and all sorts of stuff. I even go here for pool chemicals when I'm in a pinch. Prices are very fair for the stone/mulch and pretty affordable for all the goods in the store. They seem to buy close out lots from other stores and pass the savings on to their customers. They also rent out machines like bobcats, small excavators, tractors, bull doers etc. Great for the weekend warriors. read more

These comments are "spot on" with regards to the type of treatment you can expect from the MANAGEMENT. Kind of a cross between the junk they sell at a dollar store, a Big Lots, and an Ocean State Job Lot. A little bit of everything, but the main focus seems to be outdoor stuff. Nice selection of pavers and stone, with decent prices. Also, good prices on perennials. Did see some way overpriced things inside, mostly in the tool section. Some things looked like they've been sitting around awhile. No Name brands, tools, outdoor, cleaning, pet supplies, etc. I did like the 2 gallon perennial price of $4.99. I went back a week later to buy some and they changed the prices to 3 for $20. A worse deal with the planting season coming to an end. A shady price change. Maybe if I go back in a month they'll be back to $4.99. read more

I live right around the corner from this little gem! I am a pre-k teacher and make a lot of items for my classroom.They have the biggest and best selection of duck tape anywhere! Giant rolls for only $4.99! In the past couple of years I think I have bought over 20 rolls. I also love all the other school supplies,kitchen items and other like things they carry.You never know what else you may find there. I have been shopping at this lots and more (S Windsor) for several years. We've bought everything from tools to parts, stone, mulch, Christmas decorations, tarps and so much more. I typically go here on the way to Home Depot and see what I can get here from my list here first. Prices are always better and decent quality name brand products. Worth the extra 15 min. I started renting the bobcats from here too. Rented them twice now. Brand new equipment and reasonable prices. Fast and easy service. This is a great lots and more. Great variety of flowers, trees, shrubs etc. My go to place for everything outdoors. They have a hodgepodge of stuff inside- from gardening gloves, to tools, storage bins, and beef jerky. Plant prices are not reasonable as it used to be. You can do better in Lowes - Home Depot and Harkins (rt 5). The owner is grouchy and always yelled at his workers. When he was starting his business, I used to talk to him because he knew I was supporting his business. Now, he seems snooty and cannot be bothered. His product inside the store mostly cheap Chinese that will break in the afternoon when you buy it in the morning. His plants are ok BUT THE PRICES ARE TOO MUCH. the worst equipment rental i have ever had. the machines are great and new but the staff has no idea on how to use are maintain them. had i issue with a lift and got stuck in the air about 25feet up, the machine can unlevel and there was no hand book in the machine. called the store and tried to get help and they told me to use the emergency pressure release did not work, the guy can and tried and he could not get it to work, we had to raise one leveler with a johnson bar and it came down. went to store to talk to the owner and all he did was basically made me sound stupid and it was my fault in front of customers with him smiling, i work construction and have used these types of lifts with no issue. He is a very rude person and should not own a business and stop trying to belittle the customer. terrible person and will not go there again, he thought i was looking for money off and said it the other customers with a sarcastic attitude. We have had L&M drop off many loads of process and crushed stone over the years and consider prices fair and service great. The mini excavator rentals are a life saver, we had a deep pit perk test performed by the town on short notice and these guys came through with an excavator in less than 2 hours. read more

I probably go here once or twice a year purely for convenience sake because I live about two minutes away, so I've been about 10 times in about five years. No less than half of the times I've popped in, I've experienced the owner being verbally abusive and inappropriate to staff, right in front of the customers. This seems like a frequent complaint on this site and others. The most recent time I went in, yet again, the owner was yelling and swearing at a staff member with no regard for my three year old son who was standing next to me listening to his expletive-laced tirade. I will NEVER go here again. Terrible business with even worse customer service. Other options nearby? Lots & More is a terrible place to work. Save your time for a company who values their employees. I worked here August to November, and I've watched the owner turn into a narcissistic person. I was scolded on a daily basis for petty or no reasons. A simple, "Hey could you fix that" would've been enough. I was sentenced to price product until my wrist would be sore for the repetitive behavior. I would try to restock certain sections, or clean up the store, but I'd be told to find something to price because that's all I was capable of doing. I addressed his behavior to the hiring manager (his partner) and nothing changed. It only got worse. We had one teenager work for Lots & More, and fired. After he left, the owner started chuckling about how the boy was going to go home to shoot himself because of his disability. As a suicide survivor and victim, this was not okay. I was visibly upset and my other coworker gave me an attitude about going to the bathroom to wash up. I addressed the owner's behavior again, and in response, my hours were cut drastically. My ideal plan was to find another job then quit with a notice, but my health was being impacted by the job at Lots & More. I will put my health first before anything. There was so many issues in this company. I was told it was my fault that HE fired the new kid because I didn't notice him sweeping. He asked a customer if his slur was because of alcoholism or popping pills. He is only friendly and welcoming to his rental customers, which is where his money comes from. After working there, I found out he has been fined by OSHA for various reasons. If you look it up, it's available online. He claims his products are all American made. NONE of his product is American. He claims to be a billionaire, but lives in a tiny room in the attic of the South Windsor location. If it wasn't for my health declining, I would've stayed and roughed it out, but I battled years to finally get my health stable. I would like to not watch it backpedal. This place is not recommended to work for, or buy from. Buyers beware. read more

The more I read about this place the more that it scares me that places and owners in this world continue to exist. I watched the owner harass 3 woman employees today for pricing things incorrectly. He called them losers, stated that they are not "leaders" and that they were useless. One could not have been more than 20 years old. It was so unbelievable. When my husband said, "Hey, this is really unprofessional, I have my wife here and we are shopping" He called him by multiple profanities, and told him he was going to "F&*% him up" and followed him to the car spewing threatening statements the entire way. Really?? For purchasing flowers and being a human? How comical. It was so bad that we actually called the police. Of course there was nothing that they could do, as it was his property. We are not ignorant and we knew this. There was a point to be made to the employees at this business. This is harassment. If i stood fearful from 20 yards away, I can't imagine how you must have felt. I as well as my husband knew (as I see this owner has stated before here and in other poor reviews on the web) the 100$ that we were going to spend maybe pennies in the long run for him, but there are labor laws for such things that occur in the workplace. No one should incur such abuse and harassment. It is unimaginable that anyone would purchase anything there. Workplace Bullying is repeated, health-harming mistreatment of one or more persons (the targets) by one or more perpetrators. It is abusive conduct that is : Threatening, humiliating, or intimidating, or. Work interference -- sabotage -- which prevents work from getting done, or. Verbal abuse. My visit today was the worst I have ever been treated at a retail business. I was referred to as old, that I had not worked hard enough and that I was probably on food stamps. At first I thought this guy was kidding and soon found out he was serious to the point I feared for my safety. This all started with asking where something was. It was not where he thought it was. I was trying to be helpful by telling where I did find it. This seemed to set him off. Kept saying "i don't care and watch he will buy it anyway". I do not recommend this establishment to seniors unless you are looking for disrespect and aggressive anger. I wish I knew how to contact the owner. Ohhh, this was the manager acting this way. To be fair, I have been going to this place since it opeed. I recognize this guy from past dealings where I found him to be top notch. Not today, serious anger management issues. At one point he became physical ripping the cart out of my hands which wrenched my back. Told me to get out of his store because he did not care if I bought what I had. I went on to buy my stuff as it would have been very inconvenient to leave go somewhere else at that point. He now stated, "see, I told you he would buy it anyway.. I am telling anyone who will listen to stay away from this store. I think he is capable of assaulting a customer. I am certainly never returning. Ohhh yeah, I told him I typically spend approx. a thousand dollars a year here, he just kept stating, "I don' t care".
