After what must be hundreds of visits to this sacred temple of cuisine, I believed I had already experienced everything it had to offer--until the day it quite literally saved my life. Clutching my half Danville Special like a cherished relic, I approached my home, unaware that fate was about to strike. From the shadows, a wild creature lunged, sending me crashing toward the unforgiving ground. In that split second, disaster seemed certain. But then--divine intervention. The glorious, perfectly fluffed rice nestled within that humble styrofoam container rose to meet me like a guardian angel. My head did not slam into cold, merciless pavement... no, it was gently embraced, as if by a cloud crafted by the culinary gods themselves. The ingenious architecture of that container, paired with the impossibly soft, pillowy rice, formed a barrier between me and certain doom. Make no mistake: this was not just a meal. This place really surprised me, on top of having the best lunch fajitas I've had in a long time, they were extremely affordable, a huge plate for under seven dollars. The salsa was pretty good and the tea was sweet, tasty, and cold. Service was good. But hey, let me get to the amazing now. THEY HAVE A HOME MADE HABANERO SAUCE THAT WILL SET YOUR SENSES ABLAZE. This place was very lively. I went in and sat at the bar and immediately the bartender asked if I wanted a beer. He held up a 32 oz mug and said this size? I said, no the small and it was about a 24 oz one. The bar was pretty full and he cut up with all the guests during my visit. I couldn't decide what to get so I told him I liked cheese and I liked seafood so he described a meal with shrimp and I said sure. When it came I was pleasantly surprised. The cheese had a wonderful taste and there were many shrimp and they were perfectly sized, seasoned and shrimptastic. It also came with a large portion of rice and beans. This was a fun place and the staff all have great personalities and food is great. read more

Having been a faithful patron of the other Mexican Restaurant in town, I was hesitant to try Los Rodeos. However, some folks I know said it was better tasting and better priced, so I decided to give it a try for lunch today. Below is my review for each aspect of the visit. Customer Service: 2 stars We (my husband and I) a little after 2pm, after the lunch hour rush. It took a little while for someone to greet us before we were seated. I brushed this off since we were in during an off-peak time and the server was likely busy doing other work while there weren't many people. We were seated, ordered our food, and was served in about 15 minutes. However, we only received a drink refill as we finished our meals, and the waiter never checked on us again after we got our food. Food Variety: 4 stars I was unable to locate a menu online so I have included pictures, although not great, of the menu I had in front of me. The selection was good, with many typical choices like tacos, burritos, fajitas, etc, with a few specialty dishes thrown in. Food Taste and Appearance: 4 stars Our food arrived hot and fresh. I ordered Pollo Santa Fe which was grilled chicken breasts (thinly sliced) with cheese dip, bacon, rice, and beans and a side of ranchero beans to try. The ranchero beans looked to be pintos with jalapeno peppers, hot dog slices, spices, and maybe some bacon. They were pretty good if that is your sort of thing. The chicken was good, bacon was cooked perfectly despite being curled up, and the refried beans were very flavorful. Rice was typical Mexican style rice with mixed vegetables. This dish also came with 2 flour tortillas. I really don't have any complaints about the food, but it didn't blow me away, thus the 4 stars. Hubby ordered the vegetarian combo with a cheese quesadilla and chili relleno. Honestly, the refried beans taste like they are seasoned with pork fat, so vegetarians beware. Delicious, but not likely vegetarian! Hubby enjoyed his meal and I tasted the chili relleno, which I've never had before, and it was quite good. Also, sweet tea was good and sweet! Reputation: ??? Stars Although recommended by server acquaintances, my coworker was horrified when she learned I ate there and warned me of past health violations, one of which I was able to verify on the newspaper website from about 2 years ago. I did not look at the rating when I went in however, the place looked clean, at least in the dining area. Overall, I give Los Rodeos 3 stars until I can visit again. Maybe I will go during a busier time next time and see if the servers are more customer-focused. read more

Los Rodeos is always a solid choice for an afternoon lunch or dinner out with the pals. Great service from the crew of servers and a nice Cantina feel inside. The food is always great. The only gripe inhale is the chorizo is a bit too greasy but that is at most Mexican restaurants. Other than that great selections at great prices. A few suggestions for dinner are Pollo Banditos, Papas Fajitas or their pineapple fajitas. Before you get your meal you have to try their fiesta dip. Absolutely BANGING. It will have you throwing the salsa to the side to dipe your chips in the warm, cheesy, meaty, bean filled mess of deliciousness it is made up of. Definitely a good alternative to the other Mexican Restaurants in town. Check it out some time. Good eats and good times. read more

Food is fresh and tastes great. The prices are reasonable and the serving sizes are plentiful. It is the only Mexican restaurant I go to now. Service has been good and their draft beer is always ice cold. Highly recommend giving it a try - especially if you think that other Mexican restaurant in town has good food. read more

Well, it wasn't the worst Mexican food I've ever had but it was no where near the best either. Like, not even in the same galaxy as the better Mexican restaurants. I get the impression that this is the place people bring their kids, the price is cheap enough and kids don't care. Kids don't know it sucks. There were certainly lots of people in the place with packs of feral children. Unfortunately, I have the world experience to know that it does not meet standards. The absolutely worst Mexican restaurant in Danville. I used to love coming here until my last few experiences. This last experience in particular was the worst service I have EVER serviced at ANY restaurant. We were there 2 hours, one hour was just waiting on to go boxes and the check. There were 2 hairs in my boyfriends food so he refused to eat the food he found hair in. I had the polo California and was in the bathroom throwing up after 20 minutes. The steak in my boyfriends chimichanga was the consistancy and slimyness of dog food. The server completely ignored us and sat down at the table behind us because he knew them and talked to them for 20 minutes. Proceeded to walk past our table to turn the TV for the table behind us to see better, then proceeded to sit down and talk more, all while we tried getting his attention. We waved him down 4 times and he didnt come over. I had to get up and chase him down just to order a water. He was hanging at the bar talking to people but ignoring his table. We will not be back. I will only spread the absolute worst about this establishment because it deserves so. I have never received service so insulting and disgusting in my life. FUCK LOS RODEOS. read more

Been there twice. Staff with the exception of the guy manning the cashier were rude. I could understand it if the diner(s) are jerks but not when you try to be friendly by smiling and being polite. As someone who lived for years in the southwest, Texas, Arizona, and Nevada, the food wasn't that good either. I enjoy eating here - food is good and servings are quite large - the service is pretty decent except for one thing, which happens to be extremely important to me, each and every time I order water I specifically request (and usually repeat myself) "WATER WITH NO LEMON" - they always ignore this very simple request!! And when I call them out on it, they reach down and remove the lemon from the edge of my glass thinking that will make it all okay. Well, it doesn't!! I tell them I am allergic and could die and they still ignore my request!! This happens in other places from time to time - but this place is guaranteed to always screw it up. I have had enough!! The food was not terrible but was not great either. Service was another matter. The waiter was extremely inattentive, not friendly, and acted like every request was a burden for him. For seven years we've been coming to Los Rodeos. It's gone through changes in ownership, quality of food and service over those years. Lately, it has slipped considerably. Unfortunately, today was the day we have to say adios to eating there any more. It was a fairly slow evening and it started out like it would be a good experience. But then we were forgotten. I took my phone out because I needed a box and was just waiting, waiting, waiting. We still hadn't seen our server, so my spouse finally got up and asked the host for a box. "He just snapped at me, 'give me a minute!'" was what my spouse reported after returning. Well, my spouse walked out of the restaurant and I waited much longer than a minute. The host never came. Finally the server came and I couldn't even make eye contact when he asked if everything was ok. I just asked for the box and the check. He quickly returned, but it was simply too late. If this was a one time incident, or the food was amazing, I would not be writing this. But I'd like to be sure that the management of the restaurant knows that we have been patient, even laughing at how our experiences have never been stellar. But enough is enough.
