First time hearing of this place. We had just dropped my kiddo off at Centre College..feeling a little hungry and stumbled across this place when searching for food. 11:45 on a Sunday- we were sat right away. Salsa and chips quickly arrived. The salsa was so flavorful- chunky and not thin and watery like most places. Like it a lot. Server was attentive. I tried the authentic Mexican tacos that come with charro beans and my husband had Jalisco fajitas. The food came out fast and steaming hot. Large potions. Let me tell you that these were the BEST tacos I've had...and we eat a lot of Mexican food all over this state and other states. The charro beans were sooo dang good, I wish the bowl was bigger!! And these came with hamburger instead of the hotdogs chopped that so many places has. The notion bulbs were a nice added touch and delicious!! Husbands loved the fajitas. He said everything was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My only complaint... is that they do the salsa in one big bowl to share instead of the single bowls and you pour your own salsa from bottle. I hate that so many places have went to doing this and it's always a con for me. We will absolutely be back here when we are in the area!! read more

We ate here after going to a show. The food was excellent! The service was great. Portions were very generous. There were several bigger groups as well as normal size parties but it wasn't real loud or difficult to carry in a conversation which was refreshing. They had tvs on playing footballs games for those there to watch. Can't wait to have another reason to visit and eat here again. read more

Moving from CA, I was worried we were never gonna find Mexican food up to my standards. We have tried a couple local places and El Charro is hands down the BEST so far! We will definitely be back. The chips and salsa were fresh and flavorful, the service was friendly and the food came out quickly, and it was all was delicious. I had carnitas and my husband had some sizzling platter loaded with meat, veggies, and melting cheese, both served with beans and rice. The portions were HUGE and the price was VERY reasonable!!!! The atmosphere at El Charro is always a good one even when the restaurant is packed. Every time I go inside, I never see an unhappy face. The staff are very friendly and always eager to please. Servers check in enough to help when needed and are definitely worth a good tip. The food is always out in a timely manner and even sometimes surprises me with how fast it comes out. The portions are wonderful and will leave you feeling full, happy, and maybe even with a few to-go boxes. Highly recommend this business to anyone new to or visiting Harrodsburg. read more

We stopped in El Charro while passing through the area on a day trip. The place was very busy. I'm guessing the Sunday after church crowd was feeling an urge for some Mexican food. My wife ordered the fajita nacho chicken and I had the fajita with steak, chicken and shrimp. Both meals were very well prepared, not overcooked or overly spicy. The salsa that came with the complimentary basket of chips was some of the best we've had in a long time. Service was good, despite being the restaurant being packed. The restaurant itself was roomy and clean and decorated like a typical Mexican restaurant. You won't be disappointed if you're craving some Mexican food and you're in the area. We'll stop again next time we're down that way. read more

I moved to Harrodsburg from Chicago last summer. Talk about a culture shock. I was used to being able to get fantastic Mexican food on every corner, and Harrodsburg is not known for being a haven for culture variety. We tried another Mexican place in town first and was most definitely not impressed. Then, we tried El Charro, and we are so happy that we found a place so close to home that tastes like, well, home. We have been back once a week for most weeks and have not once been disappointed with our meals. My ONLY complaint is that although they have Horchata, Jamaica, and Tamarindo, they seem to be made from a mix. I would love if they had homemade aguas instead of powdered. Come on guys! The restaurant had appropriately distanced tables and all the staff wore face masks. We felt very safe in choosing to eat inside. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful in choosing from the dinner menu and beer selections. I highly recommend the Authentic Mexican tacos, especially the pinto beans with chorizo. This is one of my favorite places in town to eat. Always good food and speedy service, great prices, and happy hour specials during the week are killer. Two small areas for improvement would be a little more greasy to the salsa, and horchata not from a mix. Otherwise, this place is top notch, and I'll be here probably every week. This is the best Mexican restaurant in town They have the absolute best food. The servers are VERY nice. They're all very awesome. At one time, it got to the point where I was eating here 4 times a week. Yeah, it's that good. Their food is always on point. I've never had a bad meal and I've eaten here countless times. I always order the Jèsus Special. It comes with chicken, shrimp, or beef. I always order it with chicken and shrimp. Then, it comes with Mexican Rice. For dessert, the fried ice cream is so good. Met a friend in Harrodsburg, Ky this pasted weekend and she had a taste for Mexico. The night before someone recommended a restaurant that didn't agree with her so we decided to look up to see what restaurant yelp recommended in the middle of no where and to our surprise El Charro popped up. Not only was the food fantastic we agreed we would definitely put this place in our phone so that we wouldn't forget it. She had chicken Fajita dinner and I had chicken fajita salad. We received a big bowl of salsa and a few baskets of chips. Everything was fresh even the veg which had a perfect crispness to them not soggy. Free refills on our sodas. The bill was about $25.00 and change. My friend had enough leftovers for the next day. read more
