It's a traditional Mexican store with all your Mexican staples including meat market, Mexican bread and candy, to go food, and groceries. I live in Ione so there isn't any other Mexican grocery store around. I need my queso cotija , Chile's, and other Mexican goodies to create my traditional receipts. I asked Yelp and there I found Los Compadres. I decided to give a chance, and I was very happy I did. I found more that what I bargain for. Tamales, carnitas, quesadillas de flor de calabaza, aguas frescas and even a leather belt ! Nice little town market to grab either of the following: Meat from the butcher, clothing, sandals, kitchen tools, beverages, snacks... and a full hot meal. We tried the chicken and Asada tacos with green sauce (mild) and red sauce (spicy)and sampled all the Aguas Frescas (Tamarind, Jamaica and Horchata) all were good. I'd say the tamarind is numero uno. WOW O WOW! Compadres market where have you been all my life?!?! I tried this place after getting my hair done at a salon down the road. My stylist was telling me how delicious their food was so I just had to try it. WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME ABOUT THIS PLACE BEFORE??? I ordered a carnitas burrito for my hubby and carne asada burrito for myself. The burritos are so big and so full! My hubby is picky about his carnitas so when he told me he really liked his burrito I knew that was a serious compliment. I tried his, the carnitas were good, nice a tender. Some places use very fatty cuts which I hate cause it makes it difficult to eat without a knife and fork. Now for my AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS carne asada burrito. I dont think I've ever had such flavorful and tender carne asada. The flavor was out of this world good! The burritos were a nice balance of all ingredients and had ample meat. No skimping at this place! The price is reasonable, the service was good and very little wait time. Next time I will have to check out what the rest of the store has to offer and I will be sure to update my review. read more

We frequently buy carnitas from Los Compadres, but the service we received today was not welcoming at all. The guy attending us with our carnitas was extremely rude. So when we handed him our card for payment he said he was "too busy to swipe the card". Ok don't stand behind the counter/cashier with your hands in your pockets telling us you're too busy to swipe our card! Just tell us that the customer is supposed to swipe the card. Compadres market please train your employees how to have manners. Usually when we get carnitas the ladies will give us two or three jalapeños on the side. So we asked for two jalapeños on the side and the lady working with the rude man told us "if you want jalapeños, they are right there" pointing at the big cans of jalapeños on the shelves that were for sale. She could have professionally and kindly told us that we couldn't have jalapeños on the side today. This kind of service will drive even loyal customers away. I come here every so often. When I do go I remember why I don't shop there more often. The cashiers and the personnel behind the register in the front are always polite and I like the fact that they have from Mexican itching cream to the best tostadas north of Bakersfield. HOWEVER....The Lady in the restaurant part is very rude. Every time I come in , No smile just rudeness.She acts like she is doing you a favor. I am confident that if they had someone there (the food area) that has at the very least basic customer service skills this place would be rocking more than it is . I do recommend the food.I hired them for my daughters baby shower the two people that came out did a wonderful job. When I went in and spoke to Tony and left I deposit I had requested two types of drinks as I felt one was not enough so I made I point to talk this over with him . He told me it was no problem the day of the shower they showed up with only one type of drink which for some people is to sweet. I did make a call to let them know but he was not in that day , I also went in later that week as the lady I spoke to told me that 2 types of drinks should have been provided. When I went to speak to Tony he was not in so I spoke again to the lady I had talk to on the phone she said she had talk to Tony and he said he had told me he was providing one drink. So I would not recommend hiring this company as he basically called me a liar. He also never once tried contacting me to see why I was trying to contact him after my event . I have been going to Compadres Market for years now and always have been treated well even though I am non-Spanish speaking, however today was the last time I will be going there as I was blatantly disrespected by the ladies that work behind the deli counter. I showed up to order breakfast and there was only 1 person in front of me, but as I was waiting to order more and more Spanish speaking customers began to show up and stand behind me. Well this is where things went wrong, instead of helping me (who was next in line) the ladies started speaking in Spanish to the people who were standing around me, obviously taking their orders. I was told to wait a moment even though I had walked up to the counter as I was next. She began taking more orders for people who had literally just walked in. After 10 mins of this I decided to leave. I have never felt more discriminated inside a place of business before just because I didn't speak the language (although I understand some from working in a Mexican restaurant for many years). If I could give 0 stars for this review I would. No one should ever feel like they didn't belong based on the color of their skin. read more
