The Cuda Bar is setback of a few tiered front decks (no doubt great for lounging and chit-chat on fine sunny days), with glass sliding doors which act as entry to the establishment. Being that I attended Cuda Bar on an event night, I can't say what the usual layout normally would be. What I can say is that the post-film party was dynamite -- the champagne and drinks flowed, the hors d'oeuvres kept on coming by the trays, the conversational noise level was high, and the DJ spinning the tunes was jammin'! Sure, it is a country pub, but it is one of those pubs located on one of the more touristy parts of the country, namely the Great Ocean Road. There is a rather large outdoor area, befitting of such a pub, and they have some great beers on tap as well. A place well worth checking out, and even stopping by for a drink.

I think I was in charge of lunch arrangements and did a terrible job of it. In fact, we showed up here around 1pm for lunch for 8 adults and 3 kids with no reservations - I'm glad they were able to accommodate us as I had no real backup plan (I blame jetlag). They seated us in the outdoor area which is undercover and was just perfect for us as the kids were able to run wild without bothering anyone else. It's a really good set up, and even though it was a pretty hot day it wasn't too hot out there. The food was really good and even though we were off in our own area, service was pretty decent. I'd definitely head back to this pub for another meal next time we're in town - it's got a lovely park over the road for kids, and is right near the beach. Just perfect.

We chose to order from the takeaway menu because it was cheaper and we didn't feel like staying there to eat. They had a good variety of beer and wine on sale as well. We got some hamburgers and I went ahead and ordered a side of french fries. When our order came out (after about 10 minutes) I was surprised to see two smaller items and then one item, about the size of a small backpack, all individually wrapped. We made it out to car and I unwrapped said small backpack item and couldn't stop laughing. It was a mountain of french fries! Much more french fries than two people could eat... Anyway, the burgers were okay. The "backpack" of fries filled the car with fried food smell for the next several days. But they were good. It was an okay option for a quick bite during our road trip. Careful ordering the side of fries.

They have accommodation on site, though we came especially for dinner. For entrees we had mussels and the chargrilled octopus. The mussels were piping hot and delicious - the homemade dip on the side was super tasty! Chargrilled octopus was very tender, seared with tahini and a fun sweet potato and chickpeas combo. I had a seafood soup for mains - this was chock full of great seafood (including half a crab! Yum!) - the broth again was steaming hot - may have continued to cook some of the seafood in the bowl, but overall very delicious. M had the veal which was also pretty tasty. The chips on the side were average, nothing to write home about. Decent selection on the wine list of regional and Mediterranean wines, not many by the glass though. The view must be spectacular during the day, but at night there's not much to be seen. If you are looking for a fine dining option in Apollo Bay, give this place a try!
