They are primarily a whiskey bar with 300 bottles of the sweet nectar of the gods. There's also a few beers and wines, but why would you come to a whiskey bar if you don't want whiskey? The menu is broken down by regions- Australian, Canadian, American, Irish, and Japanese. I wanted to avoid ordering something I could get at home, so I asked the bartender for some recommendations for an Australian whiskey. Two hours and three different Australian whiskeys later, I sadly had to go, but I had a great time! The bartenders were so friendly, as were the other people at the bar. I don't know when or if I'll be back in Melbourne, but I would definitely stop back by the Whisky Den.

There's also some decent beers on the menu for those who want to cobble together their own boiler-makers. The set up is great and the inventory on display behind the bar simply mouth-wateringly impressive. One thing was that there didn't seem to be any whiskey 'bible' listing exactly what they had. Understand the logistics of keeping something like that up to date with prices and new inclusions etc can be annoying, but it would have been fun for us to read over, whiskey in hand, looking for the next one to try. I'm sure the staff - all very friendly and welcoming, with table service - would be able to help steer you toward something to suit your tastes and price range, but I do enjoy the tactile experience of flicking through a full drinks menu.

As we were seated, Calvin, who came out from behind the bar, introduced himself and made us feel very welcome. Even menu was quite extensive, but the popular items were located on the front part of pages. We ordered the Glenlivet 24 with their special label and the "Infused Old Fashioned", both of which were well made. My only criticism was that the old fashioned was a bit too sweet for my liking. Overall, the staff was attentive and friendly, making us feel well taken care of throughout our visit. We would definitely consider coming back to this whisky bar in the future!

The well-prepared jamon, almonds, and lightly pickled vegetables were ample and a perfect complement to the whiskies. Lachlan went the extra mile to figure out our tastes and then made great recommendations. His descriptions of each distiller's style were interesting. He even made recommendations for our trip to Sydney! We hope to return.

It's the perfect spot for a mid-week rendezvous or nightcap. A word of warning about the bar snacks: I've seen grown men and women have to beg for restraint once they start in on these things. I don't know what they're coating those little soy snacks with, but they're addictive. Best you not even start. In fact, you should avoid this place altogether.

I've been in late a few times recently and had completely different experience. One night caught a rocking band and enjoyed sitting back and listening. The next time was on an open mike night and my best mate grabbed a guitar and played some awesome tunes. They have cheap pizza, vegan ones as well for $5 but I've yet to sample. The beer is average at best but such a cool little venue I'll forgive them. Think the best in offer is Brunswick bitter and one brewed for them. I'm totally trying to plan the next time I can visit here.
