One of the roads into the KOA

Overall, we had a nice stay. We were driving in from Fort Worth and picked this place the day before as our stop for the night. We registered and paid online, so when we pulled in we just grabbed our paper with our name out of the box and headed to the tent site. The ground was pretty tough getting stakes in, we didn't have a mallet, but we were setup with plenty of space in about 20 min. The bathrooms were nice and they looked clean and well kept. They have regular posted cleaning hours, so keep that in mind. The shower pressure was great, and I was able to take the Magma Inferno shower of my dreams. The shower stalls are kinda small, but they fulfil their purpose. They have many reminders posted to keep the curtains on the inside lip of the stall to prevent water pooling and slips. They also have anti-slip mats in the shower itself and a little mat to step on outside of the shower. The location is kind of off the beaten path, but there is a lot of ambient noise from the trains, freeway, and occasional helicopters. This is definitely NOT a hidden oasis in a national park with birds twittering. If that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere. The neighborhood surrounding it looks a little old, but I felt safe while I was here. The sheet they left for us had all the information on amenities we needed and it was clearly laid out. At the time of our visit, the pool was drained. This wasn't something we were interested in using, so this had no affect on our stay. The little cabins they have look super adorable on the outside and I would love to stay in one of those next time.

Quick check-in, convenient items available for purchase if needing something, clean laundry room and bathrooms! Covered picnic table at site is helpful and property is well maintained. To get here - its a short drive thru a rundown neighborhood but KOA is well kept and in good shape. Quiet train noises occasionally in the distance but didn't keep us awake. Close and convenient to I-10.

Despite the sketchy surrounding neighborhood, this is a very nice KOA campground. It has a nice view of the mountains, is well maintained, the sites are level, and it is pretty quiet except for the occasional train passing through. Prior to arriving, I read some online reviews which complained about a very rude office person. I can verify this, he is not in the least bit friendly and is condescending. If my husband had been feeling better we would have continued down the road and stayed elsewhere. We connected to the cable box and had service for about 5 minutes. Luckily we were able to get TV via airwaves and didn't miss the Super Bowl.

I hike the Cochise Trail ever few years. There's a lot to see here: rock formations, vistas,…read morebirds, insects and rattlesnakes, and is a challenging hike of ten miles. I usually start this from the west side, driving through Tombstone and taking Middlemarch road north of town for nine miles before turning north on a forest road. This road is a dirt road that gets very rutted the last two miles as it follows a dry wash. This wash fills into a creek during active monsoon season, so a high-clearance vehicle is necessary. Unlike the east side, parking and dry camping on the west side is free. The trail climbs immediately for 1.75 miles before hitting the western Stronghold and from here it's a gradual descent to the eastern trailhead and campground. The only source of water is at Halfmoon tank, a cattle pond about halfway up or down the trail, depending on which direction you start this hike. Lots of butterflies were in the area in September. During active monsoon season, the creek will run and the waterfall on the western side is a sight to behold. My hiking party rests here near the restrooms before returning the way we came. There was no water in the campground last month when I last did this hike. Dogs are allowed The only negative thing about this hike is its remoteness and accessibility. From Sierra Vista it's a two-hour drive each way. Add another five miles for the hike and it's a day-long adventure.

Well we came yesterday to get out of town and visit the dragoon hills…read more This campground is officially closed to all but hikers. They say mountain bikes are permitted but we are riders and I think the trails are too narrow. And slots where you can t pedal. I say hike. So no parking, bathrooms or camping or potable water. But you can park outside the gates. A few did, like us. Since we are new to the site, we only went to the water tank. Lots of shade along the way. Caves. Huge Rock formations. Hawks circling above hunting. Butterflies, BlueJays. Lots to see. I m going to go back while the weather is still cool. It is normally Officially Closed July to September due to extreme temps. Great to use your imagination about where the Apache's would have hidden in wait to protect the Stronghold.

USFS Shannon Campground is a great place to unwind and beat the heat…read more Shannon Campground is small (about 15 campsites) and tucked away along the upper reaches of Marijilda Creek on Mount Graham, a pleasant little brook with wild rhubarb growing on its banks winds through a setting of really tall trees and green grass. Campsites are shaded under mature Engelmann spruce and Douglas-fir. I went up when the temperature in Tucson was + 100 at 9,000 feet the temp remained a steady 65. Shannon is the last campground off the paved road. Recommended RV legth is no larger than 22 ft. Mine is 24 ft. and I made it just fine. Arcadia campground is at around 4,000 ft. and about 20 deg. Warmer. Several campsites are above Shannon, but the road is not paved. You can drive all the way up to Riggs Lake at the top and do some fishing. Native species of trout live in the lake. There are also many hiking trails of varying difficulty. I hiked the Heliograph Trail 328A to the lookout tower, 4 miles round trip. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coronado/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=25552&actid=50 Notes: There's no running water at this site. Bear proof containers are at sites for food storage. I highly recommend this area and wish you a good time.

There was one full size bed with 1 bunkbed with a bathroom and shower. There was also a fridge, toaster, microwave and a coffee maker. There are 8-9 cabins total and space for RVs to park. The campground felt safe for the kids to run around, which brought my normal anxiety level down. It was nice that the kids were tablet free because there were endless amounts of games and activities to do in their game room such as PacMan, Foosball, and Ping Pong. There is also a playground with an open field to run around, a sandbox and a basketball court. Then there's the gift shop. We almost bought the entire store from all the cool apparel, accessories, souvenirs and gifts that were there. What made the whole experience worth it were the hosts, Josh and Mary. They treated us like we were family and were very hospitable. Although our trip was short, we were able to check out downtown and visit the City of Rocks, which is about a 30 min drive from the campground. Parking is $5 for the day. I would definitely come back to Silver City KOA annually!

Probably the worst KOA we have ever visited. The grounds were basically gravel and stickers and…read morenot well maintained. Basic rules were not enforced. 10pm to 7am quiet time was violated and not enforced nearly every night we were there. From late night arrivals that left their bright lights on all night to the late night arrival that had kids up and loud until after midnight and then the adults stayed awake talking and laughing until well pas 1:00 am. Did not get much sleep those two nights. The icing on the cake was our neighbors Pit Bull. It was tied to one of the patio chairs. When I walked my mini golden doodle past the site, it charged, pulling the chair across about 20 feet of gravel street going straight for my dog. I got between the two and the Pit Bull simply mowed me down(I am 80 years old) and was headed to my dog's throat. Kept the Pit Bull away from my dog but in that effort, my hand was bitten. Finally, my wife got our dog in the trailer and I was left on the ground holding onto the Pit Bull with a bleeding hand. Finally two men from other sites responded to our yell's for help and came down and took control of the Pit and helped me up. Owners were absent, one sleeping and one in the bathroom but finally showed up. Called 911 and sheriff and paramedics showed up. Filed the appropriate reports. When asked for rabies documentation, it was not to be had though they said it was available. Left the next day and finally found out that there would be no rabies vaccine documentation forthcoming. I was back home by then and was directed by my doctor to immediately go to an emergency room and begin the rabies 9 shot two week shot protocol The KOA people, while seemingly nice people, said they had no control over what dogs people brought. All other KOA campsites we visited had dog restrictions, no pit bulls, Dobermans and rottweilers, not this place one. There was no enforcement of the quiet times or limited categories for animals. The did not want to take any accountability or responsibility for what happened other than to say, "I am so sorry". Not sure we will continue to go to KOA campsites. Will certainly make sure they have limitations and enforcement.
