I just didn't have a very good experience under his care for the past 6 years as a workers comp patient and I want to warn other potential workers comp patients about the experiences I had. To start off, Dr. Cunningham is one of the very few workers comp docters in the Monmouth County area. That fact was the reason why I chose him. It was also the reason why, when frustrated, I couldn't seek anyone else. There just isn't any Orthopedic workers comp doctors in Monmouth County other than Dr. Cunningham. In my case, I hurt my shoulder in 2013 while lifting heavy equiptment at my Post Office job. I was seeking a workers comp doctor simply to evalutate and maintain my injury claims. Again, Dr. Cunningham was the only doctor in the area. On my very first day visiting his office, I met with his staff member, Christine, to possibly persue surgery to fix the damage. I had to sit and listen to Christine openly complaining that she had to take care of workers comp clients that weren't sick but merely trying to use the system. I could not believe what I was hearing. It made me feel rather uncomfortable, as here I was, a new workers comp patient listening to otheres being belittled. So apparently, the created atmosphere at Dr. Cunningham's office was that those seeing workers comp were simply doing so to get out of doing work. Furthermore, after telling Christine that I wanted to wait on having surgery done to see if the Postal Service would actually approve it, she told the Doctor something completely different than what I had expressed. This resulted in Dr. Cunningham giving me a stern talk about cheating the system -- which I never was intending to do. Now on to Dr. Cunningham... While I think Dr. Cunningham is an excellent, capable doctor, his unprofessional bedside manner made me feel very uncomfortable. He often made a joke about my ongoing condition. He would walk into the exam room and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Let me guess, your status hasn't changed." This made me feel very uncomfortable. Of course my status hasn't change. I have an injury and it isn't going to get any better --- especially for the fact I was still working with the injury despite the restrictions he put me on. For years, I resisted having surgery done on my shoulder. Nobody wants to have surgery unless they are in God-awful pain. I was not. I was living with the injury and the minor pain. However, after 6 years, when I told Dr. Cunningham I would consider doing the surgery, he laughed for a good 5 minutes as if it was all a joke. I had never feelt so uncomfortable in my life. How could a Doctor laugh at me like this and treat my decision like a joke? I am retiring in two weeks. I don't need to see Dr. Cunningham anymore, and in a way, I am very happy about that. Neither he or his staff made me feel as if they were taking my injury seriously. I don't need a staff member openly complaining that comp workers are looking for a way to stop working. I don't need Dr. Cunningham to make jokes about my condition every time he sees me. Had I had the chance to switch doctors I would have gladly done so, but he was the only one handling workers comp in the area. For six years, I was made to feel uncomfortable about my injury. No-one should be treated in that manner. The one staff member that was a Godsend was Debbie. She's a real sweetheart and you will be very happy to deal with her if and when you visit the office. If you don't have a workman comp case, you will probably meet a really fantastic physician who will be sympathetic to your needs. In my case, I feel as if I was ridiculed over and over again. I am glad that I no longer have to visit that office.

If you decide to try this clinic, I highly recommend working with Andrew -- and Andrew alone. Unfortunately, my experience took a disappointing turn on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. I was scheduled with Christine since Andrew wasn't available. From the beginning, her tone and demeanor made it clear she didn't want to work with me. When I said, "I thought I was scheduled with you today," she responded, "Yes, both Anthony and I," but provided zero oversight -- not even for one exercise. I nearly fell on the TRX, which should never happen in a supervised PT session. There were only two patients in the clinic at the time, so lack of attention wasn't due to being busy -- it was a lack of willingness. The session was entirely unproductive; I didn't break a sweat, unlike every prior session. I shared my concerns respectfully with Andrew via email the next day to help avoid similar issues in the future. Shortly after, I received a voicemail and email from Christine asking to speak before my next session (scheduled for Thursday, August 14). When I called back, I was told, "Andrew and I feel this is as much progress as you can make here, and you should be under the care of a surgeon." None of this was mentioned at the end of our session, which concluded with, "See you Thursday." The sudden change in tone -- and abrupt termination of care -- felt disingenuous and retaliatory. I was left without care despite having prepaid for a 6-session package. This is not how a healthcare provider should handle patient feedback. Yes, the business can operate however it sees fit -- even if that includes retaliating against feedback. But dismissing patients who raise valid, respectful concerns reflects a lack of professionalism and poor patient care standards. Christine: As you are well aware, I had referred my father and also several friends to your clinic. My mother was also considering becoming a patient in upcoming weeks. Ending my care over one respectful email undermines the values of healthcare. I've been nothing but polite to everyone at your facility. To be treated this way is grossly disrespectful, disappointing and extremely retaliatory -- especially from someone trusted with people's recovery as a licensed healthcare professional. We both know you didn't oversee my session at all Christine. You seemed disengaged, and I had to ask for stretching -- something normally provided by Andrew at the beginning of my sessions without request. As a fellow small business owner, I've always viewed client feedback as a chance to improve. Are patients not allowed to voice concerns at your business in fear of facing retaliatory actions? This was the first time I gave any feedback because all prior sessions were effective. I left feeling challenged, fatigued, and stronger. Tuesday was different, and I had every right to say so. Andrew: Thank you for your care and support. You helped me regain strength, start walking more confidently, and even begin using stairs -- all in a short time. As you said, I still have a long road ahead, but your help truly made a difference. Finally: I hold an MD degree. ACL rehab typically spans 9 to 12 months. To say I've made "as much progress as I can here" is not only inaccurate -- it's false. In the state of New Jersey, a physical therapist CANNOT simply discontinue care and ABANDON a patient WITHOUT PROPER PROCEDURES TO ENSURE PATIENT'S WELL - BEING. On August 13, 2025: MULLANEY & ASSOCIATES PHYSICAL THERAPY has decided to ABRUPTLY withdraw my care and has ABANDONED me as a patient. WHAT GIVES Christine THE RIGHT TO TERMINATE my care ABRUPTLY WHEN I AM NOT EVEN HER PATIENT and putting my well being AT RISK! Please note I have made a formal complaint to the New Jersey State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners and requested for an investigation.

I was always greeted with a smile and positive reinforcement, which I needed. I went here 3 months, 2-3 times a week. Between the stretching, exercising, icing and massages I feel great right now. They have great machines and the place is clean. I'm walking 3 miles a day with no pain. This is by far the best place around. Thank you to all who work here.

I told her after weighing me to not tell me my weight since I have body image issues and don't like to focus on my weight number since it can be upsetting for me. That was the first sign of disrespect. Then she starts mocking my beliefs and morals that are linked to my diet. I tell her I suffer from anemia. She acts like she doesn't believe me and "how could I know that" my previous doctor diagnosed me with it? She then tells me that I do have it and starts telling me I'm malnourished. I asked her for advice on what to eat and she just starts listing things that I already eat. I tell her I'm depressed, have trouble sleeping and she offers no help other than "try Prozac" with a laugh. She then says I'm social and have friends so I'm fine. Completely disrespectful. She asked me if I was sexually active and before I could answer she just said no and writes that down. I tried to explain that wasn't the case but she didn't believe me? Or didn't take it seriously? It was so uncomfortable. I had a lot of concerns and questions about my health and when I tried to ask she cuts me off and tells me "I have other patients" and ended the appointment. What the hell. Don't go to her. My family sees other doctors there and are fine but don't go to Barbara.
