Didn't have much time to look around to much, but the Loon Mountain Summit is well worth the trip. The ride up is peaceful and quick and very serene. It was a great way to cap the day. read more

We had stopped at the Notch Express south of here to see the Betty and Barney Hill display they have there. The store owner let us know if we drive north to the Indian Head Resort, we would find this roadside marker. We bought ourselves a little green alien from said establishment and drove up the road a piece. Although Betty and Barney have no memory of exactly when and where their abduction occurred, this is the spot where they stopped, got out of their car and took a close look at what they recall being a space craft. While standing near here, looking at said craft, it began to descend toward them. And that's when they 'noped' the heck out of there. Next thing they remember it's two hours and 40 miles later. Creepy. Theirs is the first official UFO abduction case and a bit of local, and international, history. A definite must for any hobbyist Ufologist.

The marker is by the side of the road in front of the Indian Head Resort. There is room to pull over and read it. It says, "On the night of September 19-20, 1961, Portsmouth, NH couple Betty and Barney Hill experienced a close encounter with an unidentified flying object and two hours of "lost" time while driving south on Rte 3 near Lincoln. They filed an official Air Force Project Blue Book report of a brightly-lit cigar-shaped craft the next day, but were not public with their story until it was leaked in the Boston Traveler in 1965. This was the first widely-reported UFO abduction report in the United States." The marker was erected in 2011 by the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources. There is plenty of space to park to read the sign and to search around. [Review 18528 overall - 79 in New Hampshire - 2050 of 2022.]

The Covered Bridge in Littleton NH…read more There are many covered bridges throughout the State of New Hampshire, this one in the town of Littleton, at the edge of the White Mountains. The Riverwalk Covered Bridge wasn't visible from the main road but is located behind Main Street. I believe the building next to it is the Schilling Beer Co, the one with a cool waterfall behind its 18th century grist mill building on the river. We parked behind the shops and walked down towards the historic sign. We were able to see some great views of the river as we walked across the covered bridge. The bridge is long and beautiful. We were impressed in how large the bridge was. At the other end of the bridge is a Farmers Market building. Very pleasant walk... we then made our way on foot to check out Main Street. Review #3042

Aside from the magnificent beauty of the entire state, is has the covered bridges, which are so much fun to track down and photograph. I left New England in 1985 and didn't return till 2025 but took myself (and my husband) back to VT, and yes, went covered bridge hunting. What amazed me is that even WITH the added technology of GPS, I still had trouble finding some of the bridges. GPS only works when we have cell service, and many places still do NOT... duh. Anyway, we easily found the Taftsville Bridge, and it did not disappoint. It was one of the larger bridges we rode over, and it definitely was the oldest one that we saw, having been built in 1836. This is about a 0.3 mi walk through the forest by Sabbaday brook. The path is fairly developed and fairly flat with some slight but minimal elevation gain. At the falls there is a nice platform / stair which allows you to climb up and take a closer look at the falls. There is a small parking lot and it seems like when it's full, people just park on the shoulder. In addition there is also an outhouse, but no running water. Great little hike along the Kanc!

Annual Wildquack Duck Race Review put on by the Chamber:…read more It's Memorial day weekend annually I am told. It was a beautiful day out to gamble on ducks! We arrived at 12:45pm and parking was tough as festivities had been going on for a few hours. But we did get a spot on the main road right next to the duck sales table so we bought 4 ducks for $20. We then walked onto the field to lay out a blanket. Then we started exploring. 3 food vendors, at least 2 craft vendors, silent auction table, face painting, games, etc... There was a duck parade (I can't speak much of this as we were already in place in the water waiting.) I can share- I have been to another duck race elsewhere. I was able to see the ducks being dropped into the water. This race- we could not see the ducks being dropped and we had a clear view of the bridge. Maybe a suggestion- use a blowhorn to alert all the people who have come out to view the race that it has started. Another thing done very differently- Jackson announces all the winners. The other race wrote them very quickly on a board to be displayed. It made it a lot easier to retrieve your winnings as it was hard to hear the gentleman's mic and you had to wait around in the heat/sun. Also, they had a cupcake tasting that did not happen when scheduled- my daughter was looking forward to it and was disappointed. Overall, great idea just needs a little better execution in my opinion. My kids loved it! I hope they raised a lot of money!
