It should've been easy just off Highway 93 (Exit 34B)... this rock formation on the top of Cannon Mountain was supposed to resemble a human's face above Profile Lake but is no longer there. If collapsed on May 2003 due to natural forces.. I did search for old photos of it from the internet... hmm, interesting! and, yes, that's the fabled stone face! The museum was closed at the time but I followed a nice paved trail, a scenic pathway to Profile Lake and The Old Man of the Mountain Profiler Plaza. There at the end of the trail were a series of seven large steel rods which pointed towards the cliff where the Old Man once was... hmm, okaaaay, Instructions were posted near the rods. This monument allows a new and unique experience in viewing the Old Man of the Mountain. Here is the interactive instructions: FIND the granite stone engraved with the number closest to your height (3-7 feet) STAND on the engraved footprints on that stone SIGHT ALONG the profiler rod in front of you with one eye closed, and align the bumps on the side of the rod THE PROFILE WILL COME INTO VIEW just as it once was, high on the cliff There are a bunch of interesting reads on the plaza. Thanks to that person - I was so thrilled! Of course I had to get a lock and drag Boyfriend there this weekend (he was actually very interested about the bridge itself, if not the lock, lol). Super cute spot... go down to the river from behind the bank/war memorial, it's a short 5 minute walk. Beautiful views of the river. And I'll be back to visit my lock

When you visit St Jay, be sure to visit - or literally go through the "Honk Tunnel"…read more The Tunnel is a small tunnel on Bay Street which goes under the railroad tracks and connects you back to Railroad street. Its SMALL and a BLIND tunnel - only room for 1 car at a time, so before proceeding through, you must HONK your car horn and LISTEN for other honkers before proceeding through. Be wary, as many fender benders have happened here. And within seconds, its over- now you been though the famous HONK Tunnel. Thank you.

It's a short 15-minute trail to the observation deck. you need to climb 3 stories height stairs to reach the top. on a clear day, you can see part of Canada (if you figure out where it is :P ), and neighboring states. I just took this opportunity to take some zoom-in fall photos. it was too windy, but the 360-degree view was totally worth it. it has an antenna on it, so there is a caution board, do not try to climb it.

Curator/director is very knowledgeable and can answer any question about the collection. It is in the lower level of the old Opera House in downtown Littleton. If you're anywhere nearby - be sure to check out this gem, have breakfast at the Coffee Pot, a bowl of clam chowder at the Diner at the other end of town and explore the many shops in town, including a League of NH Craftsmen shop full of gorgeous work in all media. If you're lucky the Piano Project will still be along Main Street - in the spring and summer time. This town is worth a visit!

The craved wood staircases, the built for the ages book coves, and the wooden floors that seem to speak. But the library has two other wonderful surprises. The up-to-date collection of books, magazines, and other publications. The locals must love this place as I, a visitor, immediately loved it. Last but not least is the Art collection. The Library itself has several well-placed paintings that blend in with the furniture and neighboring books. The separate Art collection, in a separate climate-controlled room, was a wonderful well-thought-out collection of masterpieces. As a frequent art museum visitor, especially in my hometown of Houston Texas, I was surprised to find the same artist's work here in St Johnsbury as in the art museum in the 4th largest city, especially in the U.S. The Athenarum's stated mission "is to promote life-long learning through art, literature and information services, and to preserve its National Historic Landmark building, art collection, and furnishings." We attended the Littleton Pie Festival and the Art Show on the grounds by the statue and community center this weekend. It was a great time and the pies were delicious! I also made sure to visit my fave ArtStudioNeko and get one of her prints... she's so talented! Definitely recommend checking out this beautiful statue and any and all events in this amazing town!

I came across the information about the statue in my research when I was planning a Santa's village weekend. I then knew I was going to Rey and make a sighting happened. Saturday morning. 3 inches of snow on the ground and our cabin has no breakfast. Crum Bum (bakery) hit my radar. I parked directly across the street from Crum and I saw the Polyanna Gateway! Then I thought, where is the statue and just beyond my husband's truck, there she was! It was meant to be! I happily went up the large step, took a photo of her and then us together. I then sent the photos to my Mom!

The kids section in the basement has a puppet stage, an area to listen to books on cd and both a magic school bus and a fire truck to ride in. This in addition of a really excellent book collection including displays of books featuring the latest trends which in this case was PokemonGo and comics. We came in for a stop in the clean bathrooms and stayed for over an hour.
