We came here after having been turned away by an Indonesian restaurant that was "full for the night". We are so glad that fate brought us here instead of that Indonesian restaurant!! What were we even thinking anyway -- forget the Indonesian food, get the local specialities!! Ordered the schnitzel as well as the meatballs and both were executed perfectly. Schnitzel was hot and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside -- not overly salty either. Meatballs were juicy and packed with flavor from the minced onions that they had mixed in. The beer (we ordered a Pilsner) was the best that we had tried in all of the Berlin and Dresden restaurants that we visited. I believe it is from some small private brewery affiliated with the restaurant somehow. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right, so definitely order the house beer. Super cozy seating (you'll probably be sharing a table with other guests) and packed all night long but amazing vibes and casual comfort food. Would come back if I ever visit Berlin again!

We tried to go to a nearby Greek place but they were full and kind of rude too. We walked over here and the place was empty at 6:30 pm so a bit worried. No need. The draft Pilsner was very excellent and the food was outstanding and reasonably priced. We got pork schnitzel and meatballs and it was really very tasty. Would recommend!

The outside reveals nothing about this wonderful restaurant. We opened the door and were immediately greeted by a number of patrons at the cozy bar. This is a non smoking bar so none of that pesky smoke! We walked through the tiny bar to the dining area in the back. There are only a few tables so keep your fingers crossed that you get one! The bartender greeted us with menus and took our drink order. The Chef came out and said "I am here to take your order since I am cooking it!" She was very pleasant and ready to please. My wife ordered a small side salad and I ordered Weiner Schnitzel. The Chef was unimpressed with my wife's order and chastised her for watching her figure! I wanted french frys but the Chef encouraged me to try her homemade fried potatoes with the promise that I wouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't! When the food came out the Chef told my wife that she had brought two pieces of toast in addition to the small salad because one can not exist on salad alone and by the way, she had placed extra large portions of Schnitzel and potatoes on my plate because she was confident that my wife would want some of mine. She wasn't wrong with that analysis. The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and this is sure to be a regular stop for us while we are in Berlin. This is like taking a step back in German dining history. The Chef was also the owner and took great pride in providing us with a memorable meal!

We had the pork shank and the game goulash. The goulash was fantastic. Yes cabbage was perfect. The potatoes wrestle pork shank were probably cooked in bacon fat and were sublime. My only nit to pick is the dumplings with the goulash were flavorless gooey dough balls. Drinks: Excellent draft beer. Try the Duckstein red! It's fantastic. Also the "Potato Snap" (like a home brewed vodka) is a fun and interesting shot before dinner! Service: Rather slow but the poor wait staff are completely overworked. Ambiance: Quaint, almost like a dining room in an old home. Value: For the quality, value is solid. Dinner and beer for 2 with 5% tip for just under 100 Euros.

Service: young girl was our waitress and was very busy but very friendly. She was not able to checkup on us after we ordered, so order everything you need. Drinks: they had 3 beer on draught, got the red blonde and it was delicious made me think of an Irish Red. Food: we ordered potato soup and it was delicious! Creamy yet chunky. The bread with the butter sour cream?? Spread paired perfectly with the soup. As our main I got the pork knuckle and my husband got the game goulash. The pork nuckle was very tender fall off the bone, I tried to eat the skin but it was too salty but the pork was super delicious. The potatoes were incredible! With chunks of bacon and the soft interior with the slight crispy exterior was just perfect side. The German coleslaw was crunchy with hint of sour and sweet. It cut through the fat of the pork and was a crunchy brightness to the entire dish. Restaurant: romantic and cozy and clean Bathroom: clean

Even though, they call themselves a restaurant I think people come here for the bierhaus aspect. Among the dishes we tried and liked were the pig knuckles, the combo meat plate (which they strangely named as the "sauerkraut plate"), the currywurst, and the schnitzels. We thought it would be funny to try the English Breakfast at a German restaurant but we could never wake up in time for breakfast.

They were able to accommodate our group of ~15 and had a fair number of patrons were having dinner as well. Though dishes were pre-ordered I glanced at their American/British menu and made a mental note that they serve steaks here, cooked to your choice of "English," "Medium," or "Well done." I'm not sure what our order was called on the menu, but I'll refer to it as their "banquet menu plate," which was basically a two-course meal with a selection of different cuts of meat. The majority was pretty much good ol' German pork sausage, each one known from a particular region of the country. The starter salad tasted good and reminded me of the vinegar-y dressings typical to German salads (they skimped ingredients on mine though compared to all my neighbors' bowls). The main plate's largest sausage was Berlin's signature Currywurst drenched in sauce. Overall, the presence of so much meat to potato ratio would be a bit heavy for some, but it was nice to sample everything. As for my included beverage, I was excited about finally having a beer from a German tap and ordered Weissbier. To my disappointment, whoever filled my glass put the wrong stuff. I was served Helles in a Weissbier glass...wrong on so many levels and shocking for a place that should, out of anything in the world, get beer right. At least any beer is better than none, and I still chugged it. So in summary: Good food Questionable service Tip: They have free postcards for customers at the bar. They're plain, but if you want to make your friends jealous and prove you enjoyed a German beer, grab a couple and send them out!

PREVIOUS REVIEW Only after having had a fantastic dinner did I understand why it was inevitable to make a reservation. From the outside, that seemed not necessary, as the entry looked very neutral. The inside ambience, however, was very artsy and cool, and the place was packed (even on a weekday). The staff was super nice and the newbie from Israel did great and made excellent recommendations even though she was unnecessarily self-conscious. The food was wonderful, unusual, and offered a colorful and tasty spectrum of different food items. The mixed appetizers (gemischte Vorspeisen) was superb. The crispy dough, filled with potato and onions, with cabbage, parsley, and mushrooms was delicious. The half duck, filled with apples/onions, and served with Knödel was unparalleled, so juicy and tender, it was unbearably tasty.
