That usually means that they do not look good on you but you are in denial, so then you find yourself at the checkout anyway, happy that you are getting new clothes but you also feel slightly uncomfortable because you are dealing with that denial on a subconscious level. Maybe you are not as neurotic as me, but if you are and you do find yourself at home with new clothes that do not fit properly, take them to Rev Vamp, a talented tailor who, considering his very central location, is extremely reasonably priced. He only charged me $25 to hem my pants, half the price of the guy that I used previously, and I went to work the next day not feeling like a kid who was borrowing his dad's pants - always a good feeling.

You have to be careful where you take you clothes for alterations, having worked in retail part…read moretime for years I had heard my fair share of bad experiences with these places, especially the chain alteration places. So after doing some research I discovered Wendy and Tom are trusted to alter clothing for designers, that I thought would be good enough for my $500 pants. These pants were made out of textured fabric and needed taking in on both sides, the legs made skinnier, so it was quite a bit of work. I was so impressed with Wendy and Tom. I went in, put them on, they pinned to how I described I wanted them to be and then when I picked them up in a weeks time, they were done, exactly how I wanted them. Couldn't ask for better than that and I have sent my parents there for alterations too and they were also impressed by the service, great people. Next time you need clothes altered, come here, they do a better job than the others.

We were visiting from the US and returning home the next day when we discovered our suitcase zipper was (what seemed) broken beyond repair. My husband made it significantly worse with his attempts to fix it and everyone we talked to said to go to Gemmell's. I saw why immediately! They were absolute miracle workers and so wonderful about everything. They recognized our time crunch with our imminent departure and stepped in and saved the day and the trip for us. Thank you so very much - I wish we had a Gemmell's!

That is until I discovered the Look Sharp Alterations Kiosk at Albany Westfield. The staff are so helpful and always do such a professional job, you would never know that the clothes were originally way longer. I am also cursed with the leaving things to the last minute disease haha. And whenever I run to them in a frenzy they are always clam, collected and have had it often done in an hour. Yus. The price can get a big large though depending on what kind of garment you have. I recommend you take it with you there and get them to price it before you commit otherwise you may be stung with a hefty bill. Even ask the shop assistant if you can take it there before you buy a dress or jeans so you can check the price.

But the main benefit of choosing her is that she will tell you honestly if any alterations suit you or not and suggests other ideas. We always come up with a compromise. She is my Trinny and Susannah! Believe me, this factor alone saves me money as I will then wear my outfits instead of bypassing them in my wardrobe as previously happened. PS She is an agent for drycleaning too so it's so convenient.

After buying a ball grown for my 7th form ball I had to do just this. I took my dress down to Mairangi Bay to have the straps tightened slightly and my hem lifted. I shimmied into the dress behind the thick curtain of the dressing room and I slipped into my 5-inch heels. Walking like Bambi, I emerged from the dressing room to take my place in front of the mirror and show the lovely seamstress what I needed adjusted. She agreed with me that my straps needed to be lifted but said she personally preferred the original length of the dress and said that, with my huge heels, it did not need to be taken up. I sure wasn't going to complain, as that was to save me some extra cash! The alterations were done swiftly and immaculately. I always think it's a risk buying something beautiful only to have it hacked at so I was very pleased with the job and the professional finish. Since then I have taken in a few pairs of pants to be hemmed (yes I have ridiculously short legs) and every time I have been very happy with the outcome! Always a good job done at Seams to Sew.

With a mall almost…read moreentirely composed of well stocked fashion stores it begs the question of why I should go out of my way to this shop? The majority of clothes on stock are made for the larger sized male. The price is not reflective of the quality of ugly baroque patterned shirts and white suit combinations. The staff sat clearly in sight, smacking their lips during a lunchtime meal and ungraciously ignoring me. So I couldn't think of a good reason why you would want to go out of your way to visit this rather poorly organized store. Stick to the more mundane mall stores where at least you are guaranteed service.

This is the sort of clothes shop where everything is good quality; most of it isn't absolutely cutting-edge fashion, but if you dressed exclusively from here, you'd be bound to be classically well turned out all the time. They can also tailor clothes here as well, and I'd bet that they do a good job at that too. I wish there were woman's clothes shops that were more like this place.

Kara, the owner of this Takapuna business quickly worked out how to amend the shape of the dress so that it would be like a second skin on me and this is just what the final result looks like. I got a quote of $120 the first time I came in and this is precisely what I paid today when I picked it up even though a second fitting was required and the changes were probably a bit more intricate than planned. Oh yes, and don't be shy to bring your little troublemaker along. Kara and her assistant made the 2 of us feel very welcome even when my girl threw a huge tantrum when Kara got her needles out! Tip: If you are after a unique dress Kara also displays some of her own collection in the shop. Some dresses on sale were around the $200 mark. She can also sow anything else you have got in mind.
