I had a group of friends going for the Skies Over Michigan show they have running currently and I was debating between going vs taking a nap. Luckily I didn't have to choose between the two because the thing was a SNOOZEFEST (literally multiple of us fell asleep). What was particularly annoying about the show is that very little had to do with astrology and instead was heavily focused on Greek mythology, which is neat and all, but not at all what the name of the show implied or what you would expect to get at a planetarium. It was also bizarrely presented live (instead of a recording) and while the presenter was decent, he stumbled a few times. Seems super odd they wouldn't just have a well-run, recorded show. A couple positives: 1. The show ended with a rollercoaster ride immersive experience, which we all agreed was the best part 2. The gift shop is reasonably priced and you can get little souvenirs for as little as $0.50 (I know this because I did). Maybe our expectations were too high, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the planetarium based on our experience. read more

Who knew Flint had a planetarium? I sure didn't until recently. When we came up here to spend the weekend in Flint to check out stuff, I realized it was immediately next door to the Flint Art Museum and less then a mile from our hotel. Both John X and I were ecstatic to go see it! Admission isn't all that much, and is discounted if you live in Genesee County. Since neither of us do, I think it was $7 a person to see the shows. They have shows literally every hour on the hour, each with different themes throughout the day, and they seem to rotate them often and frequently. We got there after 5 PM and we couldn't remember which show was next. We initially wanted to see the skies over Michigan, but they only had a 3 PM showing which we weren't able to watch since we were busy doing other stuff. The show we ended up watching was about the James Webb Telescope that launches on Christmas eve and is supposed to be kind of a big deal. As professional nerds, we were very excited about this. Okay, maybe me more then anyone else, but space and science is cool. The guy who lead the 45 minute show gave us tons of info and really did a great explanation of the telescope and he even said he had a graduate degree, so obviously he knows his stuff about space. Very informative and well worth the time and money spent here. The seats in the auditorium are super comfy and lean all the way back, for optimal viewing experience. I will also say, try not to fall asleep during the show! It's just so relaxing and fun when here. I will say, they do have a great lobby area, but we were hoping for more museum stuff. It's more of a waiting area for the shows with some displays and such but not much else. You could stare at the stuff in all of about 15 minutes, so don't plan on spending much time doing that. What I do like about the Planetarium is that it's geared for all ages and not *just* to kids. They have kid shows I'm sure, but it was nice to have "adult time" and not have to tune out screaming children during a show. Definitely an all ages experience! read more

All ages entertainment! Wildly entertaining laser rock shows and wonderful programs for children. Located in the heart of Flint's cultural center, Longway offers both wholesome fun for families and really nice laser light shows geared toward adults. Plus, admission is quite inexpensive, making it a real bargain. The children's programs are presented in a fun and thoroughly educational kind of way, while the laser rock shows for adults are expertly choreographed to whatever music is the theme for that week. Laser Pink Floyd shows are the best, in my book. Overall, it's on par with other planetariums of a similar size. All in all, a really nice educational/entertainment venue for all ages. I fondly remember attending programs here on school trips as child. What fun it was. It's really quite educational and I remember learning a lot about astronomy by coming here than I ever did in class. And it was fun, too! Oh, and their gift shop is filled with cool little treasures. I had not been to the Longway Planetarium in YEARS... They have made some great modifications to the planetarium. The seats are more comfortable, projector provides plenty of light on the dome above and the sound is excellent. We enjoyed watching The Queen Light Show at the Planetarium. They have some other shows coming up that I will most likely check out based on the upgrades that have been made to the Planetarium. read more

The planetarium is clean, well-maintained, and worth the very reasonable price of admission. If you haven't been yet or are thinking of going, I'd recommend you take a look at their schedule and find something fun! It's great and I had a fun time :) So, why 3 stars? The planetarium is kind of small. Both the screen and the amount of people it can hold. The people can be kind of chatty and try to sneak peeks at their phones, which ruins the experience. Also, they could use a better or more well-balanced sound experience. Personally, I think it'd be AWESOME if they transmitted the audio over Bluetooth so you could listen with some nice headphones. Another thing, make sure you check the run time of the film you go see. I drove an hour to see a film that turned out to be only about 30min long.. and I was expecting at least an hour (my bad). I enjoyed myself here, enjoyed the show. I saw Skies Over Michigan and really loved the information and simulations. There are some beautiful murals as you walk in and photos of space. Next time I want to check out neighboring museums and give feedback on those. Tickets are cheap, also the dome, seats, and lighting are brand new -- it's fresh and new. read more

I had no idea there was a planetarium in Flint. XD This city needs more places like this! I brought the lady here for a fun and exciting learning date, as both of us were curious to see what the planetarium was like. The actual planetarium is small/medium in size, with seats that put you in a rather awkward position, but the actual show was very good and educational, and the projections were very good and professional-feeling. I wish they had different shows all the time! I'd come often. Apparently they change shows every season or so. Swing by for a show if you've never been! It's cool. If you get the combo ticket, it includes a planetarium/laser show, admission to the Sloan Museum and the Buick Museum(? not sure where that is yet XD) for that day. Also, come on a Saturday and the whole FIA will be yours to explore, free of charge. Seriously, Longway people, please show lots of different shows in your green dome and we'll be back all the time! :) read more

My friend and I, along with our daughters, were really looking forward to the Pink Floyd show Saturday evening but were unable to go. I'm sure the show was great. This review is related to my experience at the venue. I always peruse the details via the venue website in advance of something like this as to avoid any problems that might arise. The website said masks were OPTIONAL. All was well until we entered the venue, where we were greeted by a woman who directed us to pick up a mask, which were there on the counter next to a sign saying that masks were mandatory. I told her I can't wear a mask and she said it was required for entry. Before I thought to bring it up, a gentleman that had come in before me turned around and pointed out right there on his phone that YOUR website says masks are OPTIONAL. As it should be, since there are no governor mandates currently in place for venues such as yours. Regardless, it's what their website says and people read their site before they go. The minion only shrugged her shoulders and said 'I don't like it either but I do what I'm told'. I would imagine all their minions working the show are receiving a lot of flak for this...nice of management to put them in that position and not be around to answer to these pissed-off customers in real-time...cowards! After trying to use logic and reason with the door person, it became apparent that it was futile. Of course, we were all irritated after driving from Waterford. One of their minion workers from the back shouted up, if you don't want to wear a mask, you can't get in the theater so you might just want to leave. I responded by saying that was a great customer service message and I couldn't believe this venue would rather lose revenue than let people go without the useless masks...that don't do ANYTHING...AND ARE EXTREMELY UNHEALTHY. She responded 'It doesn't matter to me either way, I'm still getting paid'. What a narrow-minded, idiotic statement. Anyone with a lick of business sense in their organization should be concerned about that statement. And SHE should be concerned for her job as she doesn't have the vision or sense to recognize that the patronage to such restrictive events will decline until they change their policy. They need to listen to the thousands of doctors screaming from the mountain top about this mask farce. If you're pushing it, you need to wake up and become aware of the critical information abound. It's all over the place. The sooner they stop promoting this nefarious agenda, the sooner sane people can get on with things. Ignorance is no excuse. It's foolish policy to push the invisible hoax. Wake up and get real. This venue is further left than Fuhrer Whitmer! They will lose in the end and will realize they stood behind a very, very dumb narrative. Good day. read more
