Unprofessional guiding experience…read more We booked a three-day guided trip with Russ through Montana Dream Fishing Outfitters- two days drifting the Missouri River and one day wading the Blackfoot. To his credit, Russ knows both stretches of water well and put us on active fish throughout the trip. That said, the overall experience felt unprofessional. Over the course of the three days, Russ's comments and attention toward me felt flirtatious and inappropriate, uncomfortable given I was there with my boyfriend. There was also a clear, consistent imbalance in guiding: whether we were drifting the Missouri or wading the Blackfoot, Russ focused heavily on getting me onto fish while giving my boyfriend noticeably less help. On the river days, he also seemed to position the boat at times in ways that worked against my boyfriend landing a fish. The low point came at the end of the trip. When we tipped Russ, he complained about the amount and lectured us on tipping etiquette. Criticizing clients over a voluntary gratuity is not okay. We caught fish across both rivers, but that doesn't offset three days with an outfitter who made one of us uncomfortable, treated us unequally, and then lectured us about money. I wouldn't book again.

He has ten plus years of guiding on the Missouri, (and other Rivers out here). He is one of the best guides I've ever booked. If you want to book a future trip plan way in advance because Garrett is often booked full especially in July and August. He puts in about 125 days of guiding each year. "Gates of the mountains". Holter Lake. We loved this place…read more We almost did the entire 22 miles. We had a speed boat yesterday and we got to witness all kinds of flotation devices, sped boats, pontoons, it was so fun, beautiful and peaceful. It's part of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Some great history and beautiful scenery. I WOULD recommend.

Pros: Staff are awesome, friendly, and knowledgeable. Parking is easy. There is a store with food,…read moredrinks, and clothing. The area is beautiful. Cons: The boat that is covered gets hot inside, unless there is a cool breeze. If you are in the covered boat and not seated at a window, you will miss the majority of sites that are called out during the narration. Views are very limited. If the boat is full, you can't really walk and hang out on the back of the boat which is open air. The boat moves very slow. Did I mention it gets warm? My advice: if an option, take the open air boat (Sacajawea) where there is no cover (bring sunscreen). Check to see if they rent pontoons or other boats. Just an ok experience and wouldn't do it again.

Only a few miles from downtown, and I think it was $8 fee for daily use. We expected to be there for quite a while but quickly realized when we got there it was probably going to be an hour or less. We walked around the lake 2x and I took some pictures and it was probably about an hour. There definitely was not much to do or see. There is a lake and there was a paddleboard class, there are ducks and birds, and there were some people eating lunch. I would not say this is a hidden gem or a gem, but if you want a park in the area it serves that purpose. I was expecting more based on the glowing recommendation for a top thing to see and do in Helena.
