My friend and I walked in and the girl behind the counter was on her phone the whole time looking down and did not look up once. Ok, that's fine we don't always need a greeting when walking into a shop. However, there are lots of delicate items and I would think you would want to check in to see if the customer has any questions or want to see any of the items that are placed inside the display cases that have to be opened. There was silence until my friend asked if one of the items were vermeil gold or gold plated. She had no idea and was a bit taken aback by the question but then got up and went behind to look at some sort of book. So we figured she must be looking it up. We walk around some more and about a good 20 mins later we come back and ask her did you find out and her response was, "what?" This time I asked the same question and she responds that she doesn't know and she was just looking up prices. We never asked about prices. It was just so weird and obviously apparent she did not care and was not the owner. All I kept thinking was only if the owner knew how she was handling their store. We did end up purchasing items because like I said earlier they have some wonderful items but the customer service, rather lack thereof was just ridiculous.

They have artwork and antiques that are beyond belief. There is nothing that even looks used. About half of the clothing is absolutely brand new/unused and the remainder looks brand new. Someone told me that they cull thru the donations and only keep the absolute best of the best. This is a new location which is larger than the old one and located in the center of Margaretville in a beautiful old building which is the cornerstone of the Village. They have frequent "Bag Sales" where you can fill a bag for a fixed price and also regular "2 for 1 sales". Many NYC visitors make sure they come to the Margaretville Thrift shop because of the quality and low prices.

The owner was there, she was funny and kind and very knowledgeable! Another highlight was a shock, the layout! it was so easy to walk through and get lost in each room, everything was organized and easy to look through. I can't say enough how much that helped, I hate feeling like a bull in a china shop so feeling comfortable walking around was a big factor for me. It might also be a good idea to call ahead for hours of operation. We drove by a couple of times, only to see that it was closed. On one Saturday morning, racks of vintage clothing had been placed out on the porch, leading us to believe that the store was open for business, so we drove on into the driveway and to the parking lot in the rear, prompting the owner to ask if he could help us. It wasn't open, though it sort of looked it, and we were told that they weren't open until 11 a.m. When we returned, there was a sign that said they wouldn't be open on an upcoming Saturday. All good, of course, but it would behoove you to call ahead.

A shiny aqua Vespa sat in the sunny parking lot. Once inside, it's floor to ceiling and every nook of space inside countless curios of treasure. Tiny apothecary bottles with 19th century medicinal "cure" labels; taxidermy specimens of all sizes; antique plates; shaving brushes; modern swords, shuriken, even a batarang; glassware smoking paraphranelia; and a delightful selection of canes. The second room contains a wondrous wooden dry bar with red velvet and iron barstools where the owners sometimes sit with friends. Swords and animal heads are mounted on the walls.
