Friendly atmosphere, live music, good beer and food made for a fun afternoon. Good selection of tasty beers brewed onsite! You can get a paddle of beer (four large tasters) for $15. These were not the small tasters I've had in the states. Live music the entire time we were there. Seemed there were a bunch of locals sitting around the table playing different instruments. I don't think they ever took a break. Food was great and reasonably priced. I had a T-bone with a tasty pepper gravy, along with salad and chips. It was very tasty. We were thing about getting dessert but the kitchen was closed by the time we were done. (They close for a little while between lunch and dinner) It was busy the entire time we were there. Fun atmosphere and good drinks and food makes the Commercial Hotel a great place to stop.

I had the Chicken schnitzel w/ chips & garden salad (or creamy mash & steamed veg). ($16.90) (gravy…read more& like sauces extra $2.50-3.50; toppers extra $4.50-6.50 -- I opted for no sauce or toppers; there's BBQ & tomato sauce on the cutlery table.) The breading was just a little bit dry for my tastes, but the chicken was tender & tasty, & the BBQ sauce was plenty to tide me over, but if I find myself back here I'll splurge for the gravy. The chips (fries) were ace. The salad was dressed with a light vinaigrette, a nice accompaniment to the fried food. My partner ordered a pizza: The Hendrix: salsa sauce base, seasoned beef, capsicum, & a mozzarella/cheddar blend & a dash of sour cream. ($14.90) Salsa base obviously makes for a bit of a strange pizza, but it was really good. Quite a large serving of sour cream, which is awesome if you like it; my partner, who doesn't, just pushed it off without any complaints. Their menu advertises mojitos, so I ordered one, but the bartender came & found me at my table a couple minutes later, apologizing profusely that they'd run out of mint. I asked for a schooner of beer instead, which she delivered with the change to make up the difference. Disappointing, but no big deal. Overall, good food for decent prices, especially when you throw in the free live music that accompanies your meal.

It's a pretty big place and every area is also different! Generally the food is good, well priced pub grub. The drink specials are usually good value and there's a good variety on offer. But this place attracts some freaking weirdos. It's close to the train station and is often the sloppy last stop for people before they go home. Dress casual (all looks are welcome here though) come with some friends and sit on the couches and people watch over some drinks. Perhaps on the night you read this it will be totally different to what I've described. But go without expectations and it will be a fun one.

A guest in my party has a peanut allergy and they were easily able to cater to the request and made sure that everything was nowhere near peanuts. I would 100% recommend this place to anybody in the area and will be bragging to my friends that I had the best wings in Australia!

Turns out I had it all wrong and full points to him! Stepping into a large space where you take a menu and choose your table. We arrived shortly after opening (11:30am on a Sunday) and sat by the window. The openness was refreshing and perfectly illustrated one of their beers (Dads with prams) as the majority of patrons had young kids in toe and accompanying prams that had easy access to tables. My partner wasn't fussed on that beer but he lacks the relevant criteria. The food is American inspired with plenty of burgers getting dished out but the beer situation is just as, if not more important. It is a brewery after all! Plenty of varieties and the option of tasting paddles. If you prefer something non alcoholic it's Pepsi not Coke. Food was served fast and hot. Garlic pizza bread to start which was massive but thankfully thin. Foghorn burger for my partner and Philly cheesesteak for me. I loved the chilli but wished there was more steak to offset the large amount of onion and capsicum. The seasoned chips were delicious. I'd definitely return for lunch in this enjoyably casual atmosphere.

There's a lot of style over substance in the restaurant. It's an American Ranch style smoke house…read more Like most restaurants that start up in the central coast its minimalistic in design and menu. The atmosphere has a sense of tension, the feeling you get when you want a restaurant to surprise you with good food, drinks and price, unfortunately SOW doesn't do any of them very well. The menu in the US can be found at most road side truck stops, nothing new here only that it's slightly misplaced in Umina. Not that it shouldn't be there it's just that because of the prices of the food and drink I can't seem to believe they'll have a loyal customer base. Well not all year round. I'm surprised given the location and the cost of rents in the area they couldn't be more generous with either the servings or the prices. In fact the restaurant is far more suited to Surry Hills, and charges the same prices. There's only one healthy option on the menu an ode to vegetarians, but without any enthusiasm and priced as the most expensive, it would seem they were trying to avoid the subject. Being so close to the coast and a fishing wharf I'm surprised there is no fish on the menu smoked or not. The drinks menu is interesting and leans towards the craft beers and cocktails. The wine list is appalling and unnecessarily slim. A glass of average wine at $11.00 it's cheaper to drink in Surry Hills. Overall it's a bar that wants to be a restaurant that wants to be a bar but probably can't because of licensing. I'd definitely go back for a drink and bar snack if they reviewed their pricing. In fact it's close to being the go to place, if they could get it right and find their appropriate audience for the location. The service was good, attentive and appropriate.

The pancakes were sweet and well balanced with mascarpone! The coffee was smooth and the service friendly. We followed sweets with a brisket Rueben burger, poutine tater tots and a pumpkin salad for balance. Being a brisket lover I have high standards and this brisket measure up nicely; succulent, tasty and juicy. The salad was tasty but a few more options in the salad department would be nice(fennel citrus???). We devoured the poutine taters in no time, dripping in tasty house gravy and mozzarella. The hero of the meal was the brisket in my book, washed down nicely with a golden ale. If you enjoy southern US diner food, then you won't be disappointed with sounds on west, the jukebox tunes add to the charm! And they stock Henry's gin from distillery botanica in Erina. Great stuff.
