Cheese case is like Rue Cler, Paris--so much selection and they will tell you about each one of them. Don't be afraid to just ask a lot of questions. I wish that they did some little items in the bakery, one of my fondest memories from childhood was going to Pastaworks with my dad and getting a breadstick, probably eating it before we even paid (we did), as we strolled around, and where's the peanut sauce for pasta, another favorite of the old days, yup, I'm old. Can't say enough good things about this place, it can add up though as others have mentioned, but, if you keep to a list or just slow the roll on the impulse buy, it's actually reasonable and you know you're getting what you're paying for. They also take photos of people on their personal devices. This store completely benefits from being located in Portland's wealthiest area, yet leaves customers being profiled when they don't fit a certain image. If you don't want to spend your hard-earned money somewhere that leaves customers feeling judged or watched, skip zupans. I used to think highly of this establishment, but after witnessing this kind of behavior multiple times and reading about other customers' experiences, the whole place gives me the ick. World Foods doesn't carry the ginormous container of pitted Kalama olives that the mothership Barbur Whole Foods does. But they do have excellent customer service and and will transfer a jug from Barbur to Whole Foods for me. They also sell Arz labne which I can't find anywhere else convenient in Portland. Certainly not at a conventional grocery store. They also sell all kinds of other international groceries like giant jars if dolmas, lavash, the best chocolate bars. I could go on and on. Walking the aisles makes me feel like I'm in a different country and it's fun. There's not much in the way of parking. Most people in the Pearl probably walk there. I know I do. Then walk down the hall and you'll find a little set up with some boards and pickles and the nicest man you'll ever meet. He was genuinely surprised when I mentioned we found him on yelp, and he fed us pickles while him and another guy who works down there told us about all of their favorite places we should check out while we're in Portland.
