Now that times have changed, this location has become True Value Vintage, where hipsters and vintage dolls can come and indulge in new and used clothing for cheap. I was technically not even looking for anything when I stepped inside, while the BF was out putting up posters and flyers in the stairwell, when I happened to notice a fur shrug. I know some of you may frown upon those of us who wear real fur, and in all honesty, its the first piece of real fur I own. I'm trying to justify it to myself by saying that its vintage, since it was someone else's before it became mine, and as a second-hand shopper I have done no harm. I mean when you buy skulls, and feathers, they had to come from somewhere too right? In any case, the soft white fur wraparound for my shoulders was only $20, and will make me look even more retro 50's Hollywood glam, so I sucked up my morals and bought it. The staff were very happy to ring me through, which was a delight, since trendy places seem to be filled with elite assholes, who make it such a chore to help you, when its actually their job. I will be happy to return to this secret underground garage sale, but word on the street is that they are moving, so I may not have the chance to visit as often as I'd like.

I love to shop local and seeing so many Canadian products that the store promotes is refreshing to say the least. Having a small business in this day and age is extremely hard and I applaud this store for it's longevity in the village, they have been there since as long as I can remember. Obviously the owner has an amazing talent for choosing very unique items and I have purchased many gifts but usually also walk out with some beautiful clothing or jewelry for myself as well lol ... also always enjoy the friendly staff who have on many occasions steered me in the right direction and then to top it off, gift wrapped my selection too! Wish On A Star fits in perfectly with the life of the village. Lots of great gifts for any occasion. Pet, guys, wedding, baby, bath, body and of course furnishings adorn this store. The best part is that all of the gifts are wrapped with lovely scented potpourri, tissue and ribbons. If you buy a gift from here, it will likely be the one on the gift table that's admired while the recipient carefully opens and saves the wrapping to use again. And if that wasn't enough, there's two love birds that live in a cage, chirping away while you admire all of the lovelies.

And the other useful services they offer are upcycling your used furniture and a finding service in which you can submit photographs of what you're looking for and have the store help you in your search. Very nifty! Overall, L'Atelier offers extensive services and a remarkable array of home decor, and the people have never failed to provide excellent hospitality. The main floor has a huge selection of jewellery from various eras, bags, shoes, accessories, and vintage clothing, along with some knick knacks. Upstairs, there's more clothes, including a small children's section, some more contemporary pieces, jeans, housewares and records. The standouts are the shoes and jewellery. There were some amazing shoes including doc martens with flowers and artichocke moschino heels -- if only they were my size! The jewellery selection includes a large selection of screw back and clip on earrings, regular earrings and brooches among necklaces, bracelets, etc. Some very cool and unique pieces. The prices are super fair and the owner curates the whole store and is fun to chat with. Very knowledgeable about styles from different periods! The staff here is really friendly and will help you with suggestions if you are looking for something specific. I was shopping for earrings for my sister and everyone here helped me find the perfect gift. Everything on the ground level has tags that indicated the decade the item dated to. The second floor did not always have this, just because a lot of the items were obviously contemporary so it was not so necessary e.g. a sweater from Zara. This store is a hidden gem!

It's one of those shops I'm glad isn't close to my house or I'd be over there wayyy too often adding various colorful furniture, knick-knacks, and bric-a-brac to my stale beige apartment. The shop features two rooms devoted to all things imports. The first room is mainly small items, from jewelry and candles to clothing and other decor items. If you're looking for a gift for that hard-to-shop-for friend, this is the place. The second room is full of seriously gorgeous furniture and larger household decor items. Dressers, chairs, beds, dining sets, tapestries, lamps, rugs...it's all in here and it's all just begging you to dig out the ol' credit card and re-dec your place to look like you just returned from a six month excursion through Southeast Asia. The staff are super helpful, too. I was looking for a wall tapestry for my daughter (who is trying desperately to add a boho vibe to her bedroom). The store employee showed me the different sized tapestries and helped me pick one that most suited my kid's vibe. She said if my daughter didn't like it I was welcome to come back and exchange it for a different one. (Luckily, she liked it!) But then newcomer Spirits Free arrived, and although at first it seemed the store had an identity crisis, leaving the sign blank with no name for months, the character of the shop, now aptly named 'Wander', really took an independent form. The space was brightened up considerably and filled with affordable merchandise from around the globe. Add nice music and an uncluttered layout and voila! You have an inviting, warm place to buy lovely things for yourself or gifts for friends. The merchandise includes home decor and objects of self adornment. From tribal style to Yoga style, there's something for everyone and every season. You can't just pass by, you have to wander in :)
