I've been coming here for years to buy silver, and add additional coins to my collection. The ladies that operate this business are super smart when it comes to the prices of everything in the store. I love silver! They have lots of pieces to pick from. Remember the prices are market prices plus some for them to make a profit. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays. The hours the rest of the week are only till 2:30. These girls are all business, so don't get butt hurt if they cut you short. They do ask that you wear a mask in the store. Not an issue. However, I do see customers come in without one and it is frowned upon. They will still sell to you, but you best be prepared for what you want. If they don't have what you want they will find it for you. They are really good about that! Sometimes they close early. They will place a sign in the door. I appreciate that, however, it does me no good. If I've made a trip there for the specific purpose of buying. Unsure, how to gauge their hours. I find this frustrating as a buyer. Especially, since my hours to visit this store are limited. Thinking they need to train a younger crew for those days the older gals need a day off. A great place to get fair prices and honest information. My first visit was indeed very good. The lady (I can't recall her name) that greeted me was typical Texas-Friendly, very polite and a joy to speak with. I ended up buying a couple pieces of silver which were very well-priced. A side note: If you are looking for something in particular, just ask. They keep some of their most demanded items in the vault. I plan on visiting this store frequently. read more

In helping someone sell their coin collection (3 small moving boxes), I found Lone Star Mint. Initially, I took a small part of the collection in to sell. Gail and Tina know their stuff. They pointed out some copies and explained why they were fake. They also help separate out coins that were only cash value and should just take to the bank. This is a great place to buy and shop for coins. Lots of regulars and the prices are incredibly fair. For the most part, usually better priced than online sellers and by buying in person you avoid the shipping. If you come in with a list of what you are seeking, they take your list and go to the back and bring out the coins and then let you quietly view them and answer your questions if needed. Very knowledgeable also and no up selling at all. The woman that helped me has been there since 1996. Knows her stuff. Very lucky to have this low-key modest coin dealer/store in our area. read more

I have been here twice and had a good time looking through there coins on both occasions. Reasonable priced honest local coin shop. Though I remember them being a bit more friendly the first time I went. Not that they were rude in anyway the second time I went but they just seemed a little more lively the first time. It should be noted that the second time I went there, I arrived about 30 minutes before they were supposed to close. Lone Star Mint might be small, but there's a lot to find there. I come at least two or three times a year; often with friends, and we always find great stuff. Prices are pretty good, especially for smaller coins. The place is well-organized, too. Lone Star is a great place for both experienced collectors with a big budget, as well as newer/younger collectors with only a little bit to spare. The one major issue that I do have with it is that it's closed often. Closed Sundays I don't have a problem with, but some days the shop closes pretty early! Went to Lone Star Mint this morning in hopes of selling some Morgans. She didn't buy anything but completely explained why and why I should hold onto them for a while longer. She was pleasant to deal with, took her time with me and looked at every coin I brought in and encouraged me to bring in other coins I may have. Even though coin books may say one thing I've found that they are not looking at the coin you have. Like everyone else I think more highly of my coins than others so I always believe I can get a few bucks quite easily. Dealing with coins the last 20 years I've found different. This place is a good place to browse and add to you already started collection. At the beginning I was stupid and bought too many coins through mail and TV ads. Most are barely worth melt value. I enjoyed discussing concepts of coins with the employees there and getting a better grasp on what I have - no matter what a book with general values are - just remember that most of those values are inflated to sell publications. read more
