My daughter & I popped in for a late lunch recently and found the place clean and cheery and the staff was friendly. We were served promptly, after choosing the cheezy fries, yummy. They were served hot and tasty, along with a ranch sauce on the side. I was dying for a fresh salad. The chicken was fresh, not frozen but little tough. And hard to find! The strawberries were very fresh and the pecans were plentiful. I didn't care too much for the dressing that came with it, I preferred the ranch. But most disappointing was the salmon my daughter ordered. She commented a couple of times that it was so salty, but we were very engaged in our conversation about a house we had just looked at, that she didn't mention it to the server when she checked on us. I finally asked for a taste, since I knew I'd be reviewing that entire meal and I had to spit it out! It was as if someone had taken the top off the salt shaker! My daughter said 'I told you' but she didn't want to complain because she had eaten more than half of it. I tasted the bowl of something that was unrecognizable and it was edible. I skipped the veggies after watching her eating what looked like sliced onions and not much else. I did tell the server that I thought she should know that the salmon was a disaster. I'll follow suit with the 3 star rating. Almost empty on a weekday, took nearly 30 minutes for us to get our chicken sandwiches and fries, SERIOUSLY! Then I get cold fries and immediately tell my waitress and how long does it take for me to get some fresh ones you ask? Well when I was on my last bite she returns today they are almost ready. Come on now I said and to forget it and let me see the manager. They both showed little care and only gave me a discount when I ASK FOR ONE. Wasn't offered to me but only excuses. The food was good. The waitress was so sweet. That said... we were there for 3 hours. An hour to be seated and 1.5 hours to get our food. It seems like a great place and there appeared to be many regulars, it was just an unacceptable wait for regular food. No modifications. And half the table was kids meals. (So fries and chicken nuggets). We had a larger party (just 9- so not huge), but people who arrived after us were done eating and left before we had our food. And again, the food was good, but nothing is good enough to excuse that wait. And at no point did management attempt to mitigate. Still one of my favorite restaurants anywhere! I'm so happy they've survived the pandemic, which has affected so many businesses. The best buffet I know anywhere, it runs from 11am-2pm. The buffet includes pizza, cheese breadsticks, and the normal affair you would expect from a pizza place, but it also has other items like boneless chicken wings, chicken fried steak, fries, cheesy potatoes, and salad. we just ate there tonight. we were both very disappointed. my husband got the catfish combo of shrimp and catfish. the catfish batter had no flavor and the shrimp was not good either. Everything I get there is quality dining. My husband and I typically eat lunch there, and most of the time we dine on choices of the lengthy food bar that always has a selection of salad fixings, and soup of the day, and 6 or more choices of pizza. If we dine from the menu we will frequently get a Canadian bacon pizza or pepperoni pizza. Anything else you try will be good such as steaks cfs, fish, Mexican dishes, numberous salads. We had a big group. Food was good. Service was pretty good, too, until we went to pay the bill. As expected our large group was automatically charged a gratuity, but where it went bad was when our server chased down one of guests to tell them they didn't get tipped. Say what?!? We came out here on a road trip. There is both booth-style seating and bar seating. Country rock music, and western and sports memorabilia/art decorated around the large room all contributed to a very welcoming atmosphere. They have paper menus, and if you want to see pictures of all the menu choices (of which there are quite a lot) you can scan their menu via QR codes on the table and paper menus. Our waitress was polite and attentive to our needs. Without us needing to ask, she brought us fresh hot tortilla chips with salsa that had the perfect bite of spiciness. It was great that I didn't have to ask for a refill as our waitress noticed when our drinks were low and refilled them quickly. We shared the Lone Star Appetizer. The artichoke spinach dip was rich and creamy (my favorite). The mozzarella sticks were a bit firm on their breaded outside but very cheesy on the inside. I thought the buffalo hot wings were fine but my friend thought the sauce was a bit too acidic. I didn't try the quesadillas. The food didn't come out very fast, but the waitress was thoughtful enough to make passes occasionally updating us on the status of our food in the kitchen. For my main entree I ordered the "Bayside", which is tilapia and shrimp over mashed potatoes, covered with lobster bisque and zucchini. Well, what can I say? The savory zucchini perfectly contrasted the sweet lobster bisque. It turned out a little too salty, but the smooth, nuetral taste of the tilapia helped bring this saltiness down. Undeaneath the tilapia, a bed of silky, garlic-y mashed potatoes gave a nice sense of finality to the dish. I was very happy with the service and the quality of the food and I would highly recommend this fine eatery. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Commerce! I eat lunch here almost every day. The food is consistently good and there's such a great variety to choose from. There is a pizza and salad bar every day from 11 until 2, with a different daily addition on Monday thru Thursday. It's the only decent place to eat in Commerce for a single 20-something, and it's changed a lot over the years. The new building off of the highway has a somewhat-fun atmosphere; the inside is nice, and the menu offers pretty much everything but the kitchen sink. Their chicken strips and mashed potatoes are very good. They also have good cheese bread things, and most everything is served with the good kind of ranch dressing. (Can you tell I'm from the country?) The past few times I've been the service has sucked. The waiters and bartenders are depressed college kids with zero personality or customer service skill. I did get a sweet old lady once, but that was during the day, and for a to-go order at that. If you plan on getting an order to-go, make sure you call and/or order at least 30 minutes in advance. Also, they basically close at sunset. Not really, but I'm used to big city restaurants closing in the wee morning hours, and when I stopped by here on my way home a few months ago for dinner, they were closing around 10pm it felt like. -_- On a lighter note, I grew up going to Lone Star as a kid, as it's 20 minutes from my hometown, so I'm a fan. I've been here twice. The food is good (chicken fried steak, burgers and the baked potatoes) but the mac and cheese is awesome! The service is also great, last time I went the manager came to our table and asked us to move so they could accommodate a party with a high chair, he offered to give us 25% off of our meal. We waited a little bit to be attended after our move but it was peak dinner time on Friday night. The same manager then came to our table and comped our meal. They are known primarily for their pizzas and have a pizza buffet which is open for lunch during the week. Independent of pizzas you have a good list of menu options to choose from. However I cannot guarantee that you will receive efficient service. Typically it can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour in order to receive your food. Therefore if you work in the area and have a limited lunch period, you may want to dine somewhere else. However if you decide to do the buffet for lunch you will not have to worry about the efficiency of the wait staff. read more

When I came here I got the taco salad and it was okay, it wasn't terrible but it also wasn't something to write home about. OK, this is a poor review, but I hope management will work to make it better, Commerce needs more good eating establishments. Staff is untrained in food sanitation and general hospitality. Glassware, plates, and silverware were filthy. The bar is bug infested. See all those snow cone cups on the liquor? They are there to keep bugs from getting into the bottles. Our draft beers were flat and stale. No trained bartender would have served such a foul tasting glass of beer. Now the fun part, the bartender gave a little attitude to our server about throwing the beer out! Really? No tip for you! The food was OK, but the overall cleanliness made me suspicious. I was in town for a conference at the university. It's not a really big place, but had lunch with a group of 15 and the service AND food was great. I had salmon on a Caesar salad. Came back with a different group of 13 for dinner and the service and food were great again. This time it was a burger. I couldn't believe that as crowded as they were at both times, they accommodated us with such ease. The manager was clearly on top of things. And the menu choices were very broad. First time to eat here and sure glad we did! It was Mother's Day at dinner time and it was packed. We weren't in a hurry, so we could wait. But surprisingly we were promptly seated by the friendly hostess. We were then promptly greeted by our friendly and attentive waitress. Wow! So far, very impressive. The Lone Star menu is eclectic, but I went with the chicken fried steak, baked beans and green beans. My wife went with the sirloin chopped steak, mushrooms and grilled veggies. Our wait for the food was minimal and what little time we waited we ate some delicious brown warm bread with butter. Our order was perfect and the food was exceptional. I was surprised, truly surprised with everything about Lone Star especially with this being one of their busiest days of the year.
