Great communication from the staff with respect to scheduling shuttles from the airport or up to Big Sky resort. Everyone on staff was so friendly and accommodating! We stayed in the Larkspur cabin and it was peaceful, comfortable, and lux! No TV (which was fab), games and records provided. Make sure to eat at Horn & Cantle restaurant - great food and service. Cailin and Liz took my friends and I out horseback riding and it was AMAZING! Cailin made us feel so comfortable - first selecting horses based on our riding experience and then making sure we were perfectly situated in our saddles. Along the way, Cailin told tons of stories helping us learn about the history of the ranch and wildlife. She even stopped to take awesome pictures of us. At the end she took us to the restaurant, introduced us to the head bartender who helped us pick out the perfect craft cocktails and food to enjoy on the porch while we reminisced on our ride while enjoyed the scenery. A warm smile greeted us in the baggage claim area of Bozeman Airport. Holding a sign that read "Lone Mountain Ranch", our driver helped us with our bags and quickly gave us snacks and a thermos full of water. My husband and I couldn't wait to get to the ranch, but first we took in the sights as we drove for an hour. You could tell summer was here as all the wildlife roamed with their babies nearby. Being city slickers we aren't lucky enough to see such picturesque landscapes and rivers rushing. Finally, there was the sign we were so anxiously waiting to read, LONE MOUNTAIN RANCH ("LMR"). The entrance of the ranch didn't disappoint, with it's rustic sign and long winding road we followed the creek which led us to our little slice of heaven. Our driver helped us out of the suburban and then took the bags to our cabin. As we entered the office (known as the Outpost), country music played on a real record player! From that moment I knew this ranch was going to give my husband the authentic western experience he yearned for on his very special 50th birthday. We were welcomed by a terrific team. Each individual provided us with the information we needed to find our way around the ranch. With keys in hand, we followed one of the team members to our cabin. During our short walk, we spotted Cruiser, an old horse who's days of bringing joy to children has come to an end. Now Cruiser is free to roam the ranch and is spoiled by all who want to love him or bring him a nice handful of grass. LMR has over 100 horses and each one is loved as a member of the family. We reached Grayling, our cabin for the week. The LMR team member gave us a few pointers about the cabin and then cheerfully wished us a lovely stay. As we soaked in the cabin with its country decor we spotted a record player with a handful of albums. But don't look too hard, because you won't find a TV in any cabin or on the ranch. However, if you want to step out of your western dream, LMR offers excellent WiFi service to access your favorite movies, shows or music on your electronic devices. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy at LMR: horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, archery, etc. You are given a schedule of activities to choose from and the LMR concierge will prepare and print your itinerary. Don't worry though, the itinerary is quite flexible and the LMR staff is always happy to accommodate you with all your needs. A guide will be assigned to your activity and will ensure that you always have a pleasant experience. The LMR guides are very knowledgeable in their respective area of expertise. We were extremely satisfied (beyond our expectations) with each and every activity we participated in. LMR has an exquisite restaurant, Horn and Cantle where we ate all our meals. The thought of eating at another restaurant never crossed our minds. Each dish is prepared with great detail from the ingredients to the presentation. Your taste buds will be introduced to an explosion of different flavors you will never forget. This beautiful restaurant has excellent service and the staff makes you feel right at home. Adjoining the restaurant is the saloon. Just saddle-up to the bar to experience some of the best drinks you can imagine. Shh, don't tell anyone that the bar has its own underground menu where you will find another selection of treasures. As our summer vacation came to an end, we felt quite blessed to have met such warm hearted people who truly loved their job. We made friends and memories that will remain in our hearts forever. Morning came and it was time to leave this memorable ranch. As we slowly made our way to the door of our cabin, we were surprised to step out to find a winter wonderland. Snow in June! I've been skiing off and on for 30 years and dreaded the experience of waiting in line forever, being hot and sweaty from standing in line all geared up...you've been there. Well these guys figured it out and made the whole experience fast, effortless and easy - allowing maximum time on the slopes. I cannot thank Lone Mountain enough for our prefect honeymoon get away. We loved every minute of our trip. We did a 5-night stay in Ouzel. Such a cute cabin with the luxuries of a modern home. Everything about the trip was beyond our expectations. We got our money's worth without a doubt. The entire staff was super friendly and caring. They treated us like family. They got to know us and took a genuine interest in our life. We will miss the staff. The food was superb. The main chef listened to our dietary requirements and even had a special dairy free dessert made for me. It was beyond thoughtful and really made us happy to enjoy the delicious desserts offered. Everyone was very accommodating and ensured we still received the best food experience. I have never seen a more beautiful piece of land. It felt like we found heaven on earth. This was the best, best, best vacation I've ever had! We attended in August of 2014. Hiking, horseback riding, fantastic food and people, huckleberries, fly fishing, massage, yoga, rafting, archery, Yellowstone, critters and the most gorgeous scenery I've ever seen. My 16 year old son made me promise I'll bring him back next summer and I can't argue! It is very family oriented but there were couples and singletons as well. Everyone was welcome! We stayed in the cabin. The cabin leaked water through the wall and the floor was wet. The bathroom heater did not work. Dropped something and had to look under the bed for it. 1/4 inch of dust. All this while the temperature in Big Sky was one of the coldest places on earth. On the positive, the staff was very nice and tried to accommodate and fix the issues. Horne & Cantel is a very good restaurant. It you want rustic, this is it. Just know that you're in a cabin that's probably much more comfortable if the weather is not so frigid. read more

Cole was an awesome leader on the horseback ride. Their horses are very well trained, and they make sure to give you an overview up front of how to guide your horse before you hop on the saddle. Great views of MT, and very relaxing ride. Definitely recommend, even for those who have never ridden before. Prince, Slim, Remington, and Stitch were all great horses. I know a lot of times when you go on a horseback ride, the horse just wants to graze vs. keeping up with the group, this was not the case. My fiancé and I recently got engaged at Lone Mountain Ranch - and it was the cherry on top of an already perfect sundae! The trip began with Miles picking us up from the airport and driving us to the ranch. We were already extremely excited for the trip, but Miles' friendly and enthusiastic welcome, as well as his encyclopedic knowledge of the area and the Ranch, set an incredible tone for the long weekend. Upon arrival, we took some time to relax in our beautiful cabin. From there, we decided to check out the Saloon and it didn't take long for it to feel like our Cheers. Throughout the entire weekend, Michael, Jenny, Craig, Zach, and Duke, made us feel like we were amongst old friends while also providing unparalleled service. Outside of snowmobiling in Yellowstone (which we HIGHLY recommend), we never left the property. There was no reason to go anywhere else - between the onsite activities and the amazing people, we felt like we were home. The Sleigh Ride dinner is one of the most beautiful experiences we've ever had, and one of the best meals we've ever had! Our only regret is that we got too full from dinner to take more than a bite of dessert. Granted, that was the case every night eating at the Horn and Cantle. We tried something new at every meal and everything was equally delicious. You're truly getting a 5 star meal experience in a comfortable and cozy setting. During the trip, we also tried our luck at Nordic Skiing. We're both fairly experienced downhill skiers, but decided to try something new. It was much more challenging than either of us expected, but John (our sincerest apologies if we're misremembering your name!) was such a fun and encouraging instructor. We definitely plan on trying Nordic Skiing again one day. Finally, our engagement was ABSOLUTELY perfect! I was completely oblivious to all of the coordinating my fiancé had done with the Lone Mountain Ranch team to ensure I was surprised and that it was an incomparably special moment. And all I can say is: mission accomplished! My (then boyfriend, now fiancé) knew that I would be on to him if he suggested snowshoeing to the Ridge with a picnic, so he had Sarah Lockhart email me suggesting the activity since we had an opening in our itinerary. I'd worked with Sarah to plan our trip (she was awesome and made everything so easy), so I just thought her reaching out was another example of the sterling service we had received all weekend. Little did I know, Sarah had been working with my finance for weeks and weeks to plan and coordinate the perfect proposal! We really can't say enough good things about Lone Mountain Ranch! The natural beauty and activities are amazing, but really it's the people who make it a truly special place. Again, we have to give another special shout out to the Saloon team! I took my husband here on a Friday evening to celebrate his birthday in 2018.  I made the reservation via OpenTable a week beforehand.  I chatted with representatives on their website a few times beforehand to ask questions, and they were attentive.  While the dinner is known for their prime rib, my husband and I both selected the salmon option as we are both pescatarians (I called ahead to let them know this).  Upon arriving we were a bit frustrated with the parking as there weren't any spots available.  We went up a small hill and ask an attendant what to do, and he said that was the only place to park.  So, we went back down to the main lot and ended up parking in a spot that people had been using to go around the parking lot in a circle, but the attendant assured us that it was fine as long as we didn't block any entrances or exits, or other cars.  We then walked up the small hill again to the bar/restaurant and waited outside on the deck to check in, as there wasn't an attendant there at first.  The restaurant and bar seemed lively.  We helped ourselves to free hot chocolate there, but it wasn't very good.  After waiting 5 minutes the attendant returned to the check in table and we checked in.  Even though I had called the day before to give our salmon option, they didn't have it on our reservation so they changed it on the spot.  They also give you the option to purchase any alcoholic drinks that they put on the sleigh to be served to you at your table once you have arrived on the sleigh ride.  We purchased a bottle of white wine.  It was a little deceiving because when they ring you up with the additional drinks, there's a tip line.  I asked the attendant about this since I was told that tip and tax were already included in the price, and she said it was but that we could tip an additional amount on the drinks, if we wanted to.  Overall I ended up spending $335 for dinner and the bottle of wine. We went back to the main cabin and were summoned outside to take pictures with the horses and sleighs.  That was really cool as we got to go up close to the horses and pet them.  We then loaded up and were on our way on our 20 minute sleigh ride to the cabin.  They provide you with blankets as well.  The ride was a unique touch, but it was so darn dark that you could barely see anything!  I'm glad we got time with the horses before we began the trek, otherwise you can't really see the horses during the ride. read more

Last year I traveled here by myself and this year I came back with two of the families that I met on that same trip. This place feels like home, and all of the staff encourage and foster that same feeling. The ranch really offers everything (water activities, axe throwing, etc.) but the main thing I come for is the horseback riding. As an equestrian that has stayed at multiple dude ranches in the area, I truly believe that LMR has the best and most well-taken-care-of horses. Additionally, the head wrangler Cailin is one of the sweetest people I have ever met and obviously loves her job and the horses so much. Also shout out to wranglers Mei and Lizzie, who (in addition to Cailin) made not only our first year but also second year so incredibly memorable. Went to make reservations for their sleigh ride dinner only to find out that they raised the prices to $145 per person. Now this would be my third experience going there and admit that it's pretty nice, but with seven people, including younger children who barely eat anything, the price is not family friendly. Just a year ago, it was $125. Also, the cabin is pretty packed and stifling hot inside with the doors closed and the wood stove blasting. I spent much of the evening trying to cool off outside. Not sure how to remedy, but maybe crack a window. It's around 15 degrees outside and 90 in the cabin with no circulation. Also, for that price, it should include wine or cocktails. read more

This was an absolutely delightful experience. I came for the lunchtime sleigh ride which was so cozy, entertaining cowboy with great stories, warm blankets, photo ops , etc. Also plenty of time to interact with the horses, other guests, resident dogs. The lunch afterwards was so fabulous-- in a warm and cozy cabin, able to order anything off the menu, food was incredibly delicious and high quality, very friendly and personable wait staff plus the price for all this ($50!) includes gratuity, taxes-- everything! We stayed here while downhill skiing Big Sky Resort. The place is magical!!! While not located at Big Sky Resort base camp, The quick drive to the mountain is worth the trade with what you get from the Ranch experience. Amazing restaurant on property, The Horn and Cantle, serving breakfast lunch and dinner. Sleigh Ride dinner, Nordic skiing and Fat Snow Tire biking made our vacation all the more unique and memorable. The staff was also helpful and ready to take our experience to the next level. 38 - 5 star reviews? Well, I guess none of these fine folks had Lane as their server at dinner time. What a joke. Food, was great, I'll give ya that. But service was absolute garbage. We had an 8:30 reservation and wrapped up dinner around 9:45. When we were sat the dining room was about half full, maybe a little more. We weren't even the last table out! Why do I say this, because our waiter, Lane, couldn't have rushed us through dinner faster. My wife wasn't even done with her appetizer and they were already dropping our entrees! Then, once she finished her app, it sat on the table the entire meal. They cleared it when they cleared her entree. He dropped the check on the table before my wife was even done with her desert! Not once was my glass of water re-filled, I ordered a second cocktail when they dropped my entree and received that cocktail when we were about to order dessert. Oh, how was dessert you ask? Well, ole' Lane literally dropped ONE dessert menu in the middle of table, muttered some words real quick, and walked off. That how it was all night. It was like a game to see how little he could say, as fast as he could say it, then rush off. Meanwhile, when we were getting ready to leave the really nice waitress, waiting on the last table in the room, not only gave everyone menu's but described the different ice creams offered. We were so lucky to have Lane, my wife even commented it was the MOST rushed she'd ever felt to finish up dinner!! How the hell this place gets 38 5 star reviews is beyond me. No way would a place that was so good, allow a guy this bad, to work there. Needless to say, we won't be back. Oh, one last amazing experience we had tonight, almost forgot to mention, I have no idea what they were doing but apparently sorting silverware is something done at the end of shifts? Years ago in college I waited tables at a fine dining restaurant. Guess what we did, we prepared all silverware BEFORE we even opened for dinner! But here, nope....they do it while you are finishing dinner, in the main dining hall. My wife looked at me at one point and said, between all the clinging and clanking of the silverware she could barely hear the music. And no kidding, she was right. The dining room is all wood so sound bounces everywhere. So we were lucky enough to wrap up dinner with the check being dropped while my wife was still eating her dessert and waiters slamming silverware around. They were doing it in the damn dining hall. The perfect rustic elegant ranch! The entire ranch recently was upgraded. Our cabin was quaint and cozy, sitting directly on a creek with chairs outside to enjoy the view. The room had hardwood floors, a fireplace and they think of little touches like a record player, backgammon and soft robes and slippers. The bathroom was beautiful. At night they have a campfire with a s'more bar. There is a ropes course, horseback riding, fly fishing, guided hikes and a playground. The food is fantastic and the staff were great. I can't wait to bring our two boys with us next time. read more

Lone Mountain Ranch made us in fall in love with Montana. We went there this winter for a week, and we had an amazing time. The cross country trails were beautiful. The staff at Horn and Cantle are extremely accommodating. My boyfriend has celiac disease, and the restaurant bent over backwards to make special desserts for him, gluten free pancakes in the morning, and generally, offered things off the menu to make sure he was satisfied. We've been to dozens of restaurants that claim to be "gluten free" or have "gluten free options", and this was by far, the most accommodating restaurant and service we've ever had. The staff paid close attention to all our requests and allergies, and they remember for each meal to make sure that each subsequent experience is better than the first. We really appreciated the attention to detail. They must take notes on all their guests in order to remember. We also went on the Yellowstone snow coach tour, and our guide was wonderful. Andrea is a wealth of knowledge. We asked a million questions, and she is very well versed in the background of the state, the geography and natural history of the park. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. I highly recommend going on the tour with her. It makes the experience of going to Yellowstone completely different. We also went flyfishing, which was amazing, despite the cold. Curt was our guide, and he is a true Montana native and a great outfitter. He grew up in Montana, and he's been on the ranch for over 20 years. I was terrible at the fly fishing, but he is extremely patient and a wonderful teacher. He taught us all about the history of Montana, the Gallatin river, the types of fish you can find, and showed us the different bugs that the fish are looking for around this time of year. We loved it. We can't wait to go back in the summer. My recommendation is that if you do go, to get the all inclusive package. It's just easier to not have to think about each meal. The staff pays closer attention to your requests. You definitely get priority for all meals in terms of when you can eat. It's definitely more expensive, but in the winter, all the equipment for cross country skiing, snowshoeing is all included, and the transportation back and forth to the restaurant or anywhere you want to go is included. It's pricey, but I think that the service and attention you get is unbeatable. read more

I enjoyed lunch with my mom here as she stayed for a week. We had made separate trips from WV that happened to intersect in Big Sky. There aren't words for the scenery and setting of the ranch. You can only appreciate the scale and majesty if you've seen the Rockies for yourself. The lunch was excellent and enjoyed on the patio listening to the stream flow nearby. My mom has had nothing but wonderful things to say about her stay there. It was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. We went last year on the sleigh ride and it was a highlight of our trip. This year was a total disappointment. To start, we asked about buying wine and were told we could go to the saloon to purchase if we wanted a larger selection than was available in the check in center. We asked about it in the saloon and the man behind the bar was rude and said we should just buy it in the check in as the correct pairings were there. We later found out he was the dining manager :( The waitress in the dining room was very sweet and attentive. Unfortunately my husband had asked for an alternative main course as he's allergic to beef. The chicken breast was so dry that it was inedible. He didn't want to complain so just ate the sides. I asked the nice waitress about it and she was sweet and cooked a piece of salmon. The prime rib that the rest of us ate was just ok. Last year my kids thought it was the best thing they'd ever eaten. This year it was fatty and poorly cooked. The asparagus was mushy and my husband said it tasted canned. All other sides were good. We had a party of 9 and they seated 2 nice women with us. It was odd because another table had 2, another 6, etc. Our table had 11 which led us to stack bowls on top of each other. While we didn't mind the ladies sitting with us, I'm sure they would have rather sat at a table without 6 kids. It's another example of a poorly planned evening. Last year's singing cowboy was much more engaging. A night that cost $800 plus should have been fabulous but instead largely a disappointment. We will not be back. read more

The staff at LMR is second to none, and I have never felt so at home so far away from home. The team is warm, friendly, thoughtful, and so great to be around; hosts in the truest sense of the word. The recently re-opened Horn and Cantle restaurant boasts a highly curated menu filled with local specialties that you'll long for well after you leave. My compliments to the chef and staff! Not to be outdone, the adjacent saloon hosts unique personalities and fantastic twists on classic cocktails -- the Lone Mule and the Planer are my favorites. We were completely blown away by the service, thoughtfulness, and attentiveness of the staff during our 5 night stay. The sleigh ride dinner was phenomenal (we did it twice!); Bruce killed it on the guitar, the prime rib was spot on, and the cowboy coffee was a great way to end the night in a dining experience that truly teleports you back to the old days. My husband and I were looking for a place to unplug. He is an avid fly fisherman and we'd heard about this place from 2 different couples so decided to give it a try. We truly lost ourselves there. The fishing was world class, the horseback riding top notch and the food was quite the step up from other ranches we'd stayed at. Lone Mountain Ranch was a magical experience! The entire staff was truly genuine, kind, above and beyond with exceptional hospitality, positivity and were always accommodating. It is quite evident that they all clearly love and enjoy all their positions at the ranch. The food was amazing and abundant, the restaurant's atmosphere warm and cozy, elegantly rustic. The saloon was a great time, every time we went in, Michael, Jenny and Craig all so wonderful, made us feel like we were old friends. They all have exceptional knowledge of the art of mixology! We went snowshoeing in Yellowstone with Randy, who amazed us with his incredible knowledge and wisdom of everything nature, and being around Randy is like hanging out with a great friend! Lori gave us a lesson in Nordic skiing, she has a lot of patience, knowledge and a true gift for teaching, as well as a great sense of humor. Lori's four legged best friend, Millie the Husky was always available to play with a stick or get cuddled. Then, there's Danny, wonderful, funny and a kindred spirit, he was always there for us every time we turned around, he's a delight to be around. The sleigh ride dinner was fantastic, we were drawn on a sleigh by draft horses to a "secret" cabin in the woods, looking at the stars, and the food and music were wonderful. We also went dog sledding with Spirit of the North and they let us be the mushers, and we were allowed to play with the dogs and help harness/unharness them. We will never forget it! Lone Mountain Ranch was a fantastic experience! We already miss the friends we made there, and we are certainly going back to experience LMR in the summer, we can't wait to see our "old" friends again! We wholeheartedly enjoyed the entire staff and their kindness as much as we enjoyed the beautiful ranch and it's surrounding beauty, our experience there will always hold a warm place in our hearts. read more
