We rented a room for our daughter in 2022, it was chaotic in its set up and unclear why separate invoices were required despite repeated attempts to get it explained, however we were totally over a barrel due to lack of affordable accommodation in London. It transpires it's because of how their year runs. So rather than explain this we were essentially forced to take a second tenancy which was not required. Any attempt at remedying this has been appalling, lack of communication or investigation. Given a blunt "no" despite the mitigating circumstances.
On top of this we received repeated invoices at each payment schedule despite paying promptly.
The actual room was fine however the shared kitchen was appalling- no support at all to try and get 10 students to take ownership of routine cleaning meaning the kitchen was disgusting and unhygienic leading to our daughter having to eat away from the accommodation purely because it was so grim, fruit flies, blocked sinks, rubbish being dumped waist high, freezers defrosting to name a few of the issues.
On top is this- there was a blatant food thief. This was raised repeatedly by my daughter and other flat mates who were having significant amounts of food stolen. We are not taking a little bit of milk!! Whole tubs of food etc. the accommodation took NO efforts to try and resolve this.
Overall I would avoid the Londonist- they are negligent in their duty of care, appalling at customer service and to be honest, I am unsure why Unite allow them to sub contract rooms.
