This is one of those small-town papers that don't have much in the way of news but is well-known by the community anyway.
They're a free newspaper. How? Because they can boast a big circulation and use that to get good ad revenue rates. They'll take your subscription money if you want to pay them, though.
We haven't been getting our Lombardian lately. I called the paper and getting the woman to admit that subscriptions were voluntary was like pulling teeth. She pushed for me to pay, and to be honest, the paper is not nearly worth the $50 they ask per year.
She said that they lost their carrier for my area, and that was that. Funny. When I worked at a very similar paper in the '90s, if we lost a carrier, we'd deliver the papers ourselves with notes in each paper, saying that we're looking for a new carrier for this route. It worked well. Don't know why the Lombardian doesn't embrace that idea.
I don't care for the Peter Roskam column, which is simply the Republican talking points for the week. But the Speak Out is a riot and it's fun to see what K-9 Chico "indicated on" this week.
But I don't get the paper anymore. A shame. I wonder if the advertisers are aware that the Lombardian is shrinking their circulation. read more
