I found the most stunning hand carved chair that was almost too beautiful to sit on. Then there were Kaleidoscopes which I haven't seen since the 1970s. That's a lie... but it was a fun time... as far as shopping in small town Ontario goes. This store is is abuzz with all things bee and is located centre stage on Warkworth's idyllic, albeit sleepy, Main Street. It's full of organic honey based skincare products, all things bees wax, heavy glassware with bee prints and nicknacks galore. These bee-autiful nicknacks and charming home goods are housed in the nicest smelling (sandlewood?) barn-like structure I have ever been in. It is so quaint, and inviting, but be careful. The owner is female. She said hi and left us to browse. I love a good gift store. This one is excellent. You can find anything for that special someone, from rum recipes on a glass, to asking your burning question to a listening alien. It's a whimsical, quirky store. It has my approval stamped all over it. It was great seeing Lug bags. I love and Lug them. There is also a Canadiana section where you can get moose greeting cards, sorry paperweights, and much more. If you are a tea drinker, you can find an assortment of Tealish loose-leaf teas. You can also get accessories, such as tea spoons, tea bag holders, teapots, and more. This section made me happy. I ended up getting a couple of small items. A cute emperor penguin bookmark caught my attention. It's super sturdy and has a nice emperor penguin on it, with details about it. The other item was a handbag holder. It has a panda on it. You basically rest the base on a table and the hook dangles over the edge for your bag. I tried it later in the day and it worked well. The woman was nice. I paid with my debit card. I also skipped getting a bag because my items fit in my purse. I thanked her and we left the store. It's a cool store. I love it. I highly recommend getting a few gifts or nonperishable items here, then stash them away for the next time you need something special for someone just because or if you are going to a small gathering and want to take something for the host. Service has always been great. No one is hovering over me or talking too much and distracting me from looking around, and they are always helpful if I have questions. I've probably been to Lockside at least a dozen times over the years, but there was a big gap between 2012 and 2018 when I was out of the province. I can honestly say that the place is exactly the same in 2018 as it was in 2012, although I imagine they'd disagree. Lockside is an interesting eclectic store with a wide variety of unique home decor items, furniture, clothing, and gifts. But be warned, it is NOT cheap. That place is on the high-end side when it comes to prices. Even their t-shirts are expensive. Over the years I've mainly browsed at Lockside because their stuff is too expensive to buy. But I have purchased a few small items now and again. The most frequent item I've bought is an ice cream cone! They serve Kawartha Dairy ice cream (the best ever) and they have a lovely outdoor area to sit and savour your ice cream while you watch the boats come and go from the Young's Point lock. The ice cream and location makes up for the fact that they're too expensive for the average person. You walk away thinking, "well, at least I got a good ice cream cone"! :-)
