A beautiful way to spend the Memorial Day weekend. Perfect weather and temps. My handicapping not…read moreso good today... but with views of the San Gabriel mountains who cares. I was actually surprised at the size of the crowd Monday, very well attended. For those new to Santa Anita go to the Frontrunner for a restaurant experience overlooking the stretch run. Serious horse players go to the "Room" - it's next to the Chandelier room. Used to be called the Sports Book but now it's just unnamed. The clubhouse side has outdoors table seating just past the finish line. Plenty of bars and food venues throughout for those so like to walk around and visit the paddock and walking ring. Check it out!

That made it fun because we could be together, watch the races on the TV screens in the box and even order food and have it delivered to the box. The food was okay, nothing super special. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and said it was dry, overcooked and not much dressing. I had a buffalo chicken wrap, it okay, and my daughter got the children's meal chicken tenders - which was a very generous portion. Best of all was the french fries - they were delicious. Prices were high of course. One example is one pitcher of water was $7!! That's plain old tap water and we couldn't get any refills either. Crazy! We also enjoyed walking around the grounds and looking at the horses. They had some beautiful Clydesdales you could pet. There are a few retired race horses you could see and take pictures of / in front of but they bite so you couldn't get too close. The grounds also have lovely flowers all around, beautiful horse statues and a lovely fountain so it is very picturesque.

3 stars is average, right? Let's give this theater 2.5 stars…read more SCREEN: I've enjoyed a movie in nearly every auditorium in this theater and every single screen is sort of dull and dim and some have image burn-in. SEATS: Leather recliners that are pretty worn. Do not reach into the crevices of your seat :( SOUND: There's often sound bleeding in from other theaters. I've experienced this elsewhere, so maybe it's a matter of more mindful programming? Like don't screen a loud Marvel movie at the same time as a quiet romantic comedy next door. Or maybe it really is bad design. FOOD: You can order from your seat by calling over a server, or you can order through your phone. On separate occasions I've ordered popcorn, burgers, nachos, fries, pretzels- I basically tried to work my way through the menu. It's hit-or-miss. 80% of the time the cheese has crust on it like the food has been sitting under the warming lamp for a while. Other times the food is entirely cold *shrugs*. More than once (one time too many) my order was never delivered to my seat at all. Thankfully, the staff was able to refund me after the movie in those instances where my food was forgotten. It's convenient because it's local. Admission prices are competitive with other chains like AMC and Regal. It feels like a different experience from when it was Studio Movie Grill.

It's not necessary to make reservations, tickets at $18 for adults can be purchased at the window. Customer service was super friendly and welcoming and I love how we were greeted by a peacock and her babies as we walked in. The grounds are beautiful and I believe they have one more concert picnic event at night event in September. A lot of construction and maintenance work was being done throughout the gardens, along with a lot of sprinklers going off. Not a whole lot in bloom, but it was still nice to walk and the pond areas were very lively. There are a variety of gardens and I appreciate how well the trees are labeled. We stopped by the café for a cooling off break and to get something to eat. On Mondays the grill goes dark and they only sell pre-made food. I found it to be overly priced. They state no food allowed, but I brought in my own snacks. We also stopped by the gift shop which had some unique items. I'll definitely be back in the spring or fall when the weather is cooler and more plants are in bloom.

Growing up in Hawaii I absolutely love plumerias and so excited to immediately head to the plumerias section of the foresty area. We didn't get a chance to explore the deserty side as we got there at 6 and they close at 7.... But highly recommend how serene it is and parking was quite easy - a rarity in itself!
