I received countless compliments on the flower arrangements that Lois designed for my July 2006 wedding. My mom and I met with several florists but Lois was the only one that provided that something different that would complement the vision I had for my wedding. My colors were blue and brown, not typical colors you find flowers in. The one type of flower that I wanted incorporated was blue hydrangeas. Truely blue hydrangeas are sometimes hard to find in July but she delivered the brightest, most blue bouquets for my bridesmaids. They looked gorgeous against their brown dresses! Be very careful in dealing with this florist. She lead me on showing interest in doing business with me. We talked over the phone and provided me with an estimated quote. Next step was to provide photos of what I was looking for so i did. My understanding was waiting on her design proposal and meet next month. I knew something was off with her lack of response in answering my calls or replying to my emails. Today I received an email that she booked my wedding date to someone else. What an unprofessional way of running a business. If she was already doing business with me she should have told the other bride that there was a potential bride who might be booking for that date. Lois did my flowers for my August 4th wedding at the La Jolla Woman's Club. I wanted a romantic garden feel with burgandy and blush florals and greenery and she nailed it. From the start she seemed to get exactly what i wanted. I sent her a pinterest board and met with her at her backyard barn to see all the vases she had. We selected some items and came up with a plan for the day. This was probably unnecessary as I'm sure it would have been perfect anyways but it was nice to meet her in person! The day of she blew me away, everything was just as I wanted and it was so amazing to see my vision come to life. Lois is a flower artist! She was my florist for my wedding at the prado in February and I was very happy with her work. When I first got her quote, I didn't think I could afford it, but after I got more quotes from other florists I realized her price was reasonable for what she offered. My wedding just happened to fall the day before Valentine's Day. That weekend happens to be the second most busy (and expensive!) for florists of the year. My wedding in San Diego was a destination wedding... I live in NYC, so I couldn't possibly be bothered to bring a bunch of decor items like I would've liked to to personalize it. Lois did all that. When I met with her in her barn I told her we were going with A bit of a peacock theme, and she just rolled with it. She has a vast selection of antique type containers in her barn for the flowers, so naturally we used a couple of birdcages for my theme. When I was looking for a florist for my wedding I think I got quotes from about six people. Lois was my last stop of the day and I really was over looking at arrangements and getting quotes. When I got to her studio I loved the romantic style she had. She made me feel as though she really cared about what my vision was for my wedding and was really into it. The other florists that I had gone too basically worked off a check list and said here you go! Lois took the time to make sure things were going to be perfect. During the initial consultation we walked into her barn of accessories and vases. She took my ideas and ran with them showing me different things she could do based on my theme. The best part was it wasn't going to be any extra to rent the added pieces. She even offered to help with flowers for the cake which I wasn't really considering but looked great. Later I emailed her some pictures and gave her all the specs of the center piece items that I had purchased for the tables. She was very responsive via email and answered all my questions. Lois is amazing. We were recommended to Lois by two separate people to be the florist for our wedding in October of 2011. On our initial visit, we knew that there was no other choice for us. Lois made us very comfortable, invited us into her workshop to begin creating centerpieces and bouquets, had a million ideas that matched our vision to a T. Well this review is both sad and happy. I LOVE Lois. I found her on Yelp when I was researching wedding florist for my upcoming wedding. As you can see she is highly recommended. So I emailed her to see if she was available. We met and let me tell you, this amazing woman completely elevated my wedding. She took my ideas and really took them to the next level. Short version: Lois was a dream to work with, her floral arrangements were stunning, and I highly recommend her! Longer version: I found Lois when I was phoning around in a panic trying to find another florist after my first one turned out to be unreliable. The previous florist couldn't seem to understand the vision I had for my wedding even after months of back and forth; in contrast, Lois understood immediately during our first phone call. I said "bohemian" and Lois responded by describing a vision of eclectic antiques and loose, local garden themed floral arrangements. I sent her a swatch of my bridesmaid dresses and she specifically scoured local farmers markets--where she gets almost all her flowers--for the exact color, which she found. She also included succulents from her personal garden in my bridal bouquet. In addition, Lois works out of a beautiful rustic barn that full of every sort of vase and floral arranging option that you can think of, which she let me explore and choose specific pieces from for the table arrangements. I picked some pieces and trusted her to choose the rest and it worked out perfectly. Lois is very experienced, and everything came together well. Half the tables had low arrangements and half had tall arrangements, all done in a way that did not block guests across the tables while also creating movement and flow throughout the venue. I gave her an idea of what we wanted with a few pictures ("romantic/glamorous/secret garden") and she quickly came up with an incredible design for our wedding AND was able to make it fit within the limited budget we had. (Two years ago she made my sister's wedding absolutely incredible, so when it came time for my big day in August 2013, there was no question who we would hire.) Once you hire Lois, you do not need to worry about a thing. She does all the small extra touches like checking on your seating chart and place cards on the day of the wedding and rearranging if things are not set up how you had planned. She delivers/distributes all of the corsages/boutonnieres/bridal bouquets in the morning and goes on to design the reception space without bothering you once. It was like magic. She went ABOVE AND BEYOND everything we wanted, and created the most romantic feel at the church to the cocktail hour. When we showed up at the hotel, she secretly took us to the ballroom for a preview... I almost cried because it blew me away. Even the hotel staff in Del Mar couldn't believe how she had transformed their ballroom. It was a fairytale. My guests are still talking about how it was the most beautiful reception ever, and many have asked for her contact information for their weddings. Wow... where do I begin? Lois Mathews is simply amazing. She is extremely detail oriented, like me, so I knew my floral vision was in good hands. I showed her pictures of floral arrangements that I liked, and she took my vision to the next level. She made my wedding look like something out of a fairytale. My wedding was Latin inspired with lots of bright colors - fuchsia, coral, and red, with pops of purple. Her masterpiece floral arch and centerpieces were truly one of the most memorable parts of the day. The bouquets and boutonnieres flowed perfectly with the other arrangements and were consistent with the theme of the wedding - everything tied together perfectly. She made excellent use of the flowers from the flower arch by transferring them to the head table. Best of all, all of my flowers were in impeccable condition and looked great all day long! Everyone raved about how beautiful my flowers were. My wedding flowers looked better than I could've hoped for. I highly recommend Lois for your wedding flowers - you will not be disappointed. We were so incredibly lucky to find Lois. She came recommended to us from La Valencia hotel (our wedding venue) who said "Talk to Lois, then get out of her way and plan to be amazed, she is a gifted florist who takes such good care of our brides." Boy were they right! Lois is the best combination of artistry and business. My husband and I work and travel like crazy - so planning our wedding and flowers was a real stretch for us. Lois, because she is incredibly experienced, deeply talented and, probably most important, a really good listener, was able to take our ideas and translate them in a breathtakingly beautiful way. All of our guests (including several professional artists from around the country) were taken aback by Lois' work. When I met Lois at her studio I knew right away that she was the florist I wanted for my daughter's wedding. She listened carefully to what I was saying, had unique ideas to offer and she put me completely at ease. The wedding was at Stone Brewery, Liberty Station and she had done weddings there before. My daughter lives out of state and I had plenty of things to fret over, but flowers was not one of them. I knew that Lois was going to put together a stunning presentation. I had met with other florists and I felt that her price was very fair, but what she offered was above and beyond what I had seen from others. When the wedding day arrived my daughter and I were just thrilled. Everything was so beautiful! The arrangements, the bouquets, the flower girl basket, and everything else was just so gorgeous.
