Lohmühleninsel is something that most people don't know about unless they live nearby. It's a tiny little island (about 6.5 acres) lining the border between Kreuzberg and Treptow, and also served as part of the border between former East and West Berlin/Germany. Apparently, it was once lined with landmines. This is clearly no longer a safety issue.
There are a handful of bridges connecting the island to land, and on the island there is plenty to see, as it extends to the Spree. The most enjoyable section is that with the park and Spielplatz for kids. There are two separate sections of this park - one for older children and one for younger ones. All in all, it's pretty cool. There are also benches that rest along the water's edge and are situated under trees - a perfect, serene place to sit on a summer day. read more
