While it can be argued at all visual art is intended to convey meaning, it is especially true of text art. All too often however, the art consists solely of the text itself. In this exhibition, each of the works communicates on multiple levels; the 5 featured artists incorporate text into their works, but as a supplement - adding additional layers of meaning.

WE came in as part of Bronzeville Summer Nights, with a punch card, but the arresting images would have drawn us in anyway. We met the artist, chatted a bit, and my party bought a small postcard for framing. The artist's name was Jenny Sammons. I hope they decide to have openings and shows. I'm 'old school' so I was expecting a paper card with upcoming events, but I'll just follow then on social media. It is not immediately a large space, but the walls have lots of room for artwork. I did not purchase any so I cannot speak to prices, and there was of course music playing, so it's a fun atmosphere. I just missed an opening, and I may do a 2nd review if I can get to the current show or another opening. (Given where they are, I assume the artist are from or near Bronzeville and identify as people of color, but it's a good idea to ask within if you are an artist wanting to have a show).

One word: WOW…read more Seriously, the women of Otonohana are damn near amazing. Creative, talented, genuine, unique, dedicated, artistic, passionate and...FUNNY. No, seriously...they were cracking me up the entire time I worked with them. I spent some long hours assembling those photos, and these ladies made it an enjoyable experience from start to finish. Fun, accessible, unique, authentic art for all. These women know what's up...keep an eye out for their next show, get involved and support local art. Very cool. Glad I could be a part of one...an excellent experience all around.

Otonohana throws creative events around Chicago that are accessible to you, not just the cool kids who got their BFA for the Art Institute. We wanted to have events/parties/shows that everyone in Chicago could creatively contribute to and not feel like they are at a disadvantage from anyone else. This is how we do it: 1. We come up with a theme that puts all participants on a level playing field i.e. 12 photos in 24 hours, photos of your neighborhood, etc 2. You shoot the assignment with a disposable camera 3. You return the cameras to Otonohana. We develop the film and mount the photographs. 4. We throw a little open to public gallery showcasing all the photographs submitted. 5. Throw in a little local music, a local DJ, some booze, and a lot of dancing and you have a PARTY, Otonohana style. You shoot. We print and present the photographs. You enjoy the party. Hopefully we will see some Yelpers at tonight's Elite event at West Loop Studio. Tell us what you think. After all... our motto is "I [heart] criticism."

Paul Branton's 'Blck Hand Side' was in the final days of the exhibit. There were more snacks/drinks available too. The outdoor seating was not a factor, it was cool and rainy. This is a less 'warm' room, all white (duh) but a great space for art. The multiple stalls in the restrooms and benches help too! The space is available for rental too, FYI.

The Emmit Till exhibit was sad but glad to learn more about it. Their museum store had some cute stuff but I felt highly priced . I tried the Chicago hot dog at their North Clark Cafe and it was delish. The cafe seating area is pretty cool as there's always more to learn with the multiple pictures with IG the cafe. Service was pleasant too. I bought my ticket via GroupOn on my same day visit. It was very easy to pull. Aside being cheaper as nonresident tix is $24 residents $19.

It was a door mat, but not just any door mat.....it was a Chicago Sewer Manhole cover shaped door mat. My cousin purchased one of these two years ago from the MCA. But when I went to the MCA it wasnt there! I asked the girl working the shop if this item has been at this museum a while. She said that they sold out and just got a new shipment in. AND NOW I HAVE ONE!!! Thanks Chicago History Museum Store! My quest to find this door mat is now over!! =) The store also has a lot of cool stuff from Tiffany style lamps to gangster playing cards to a map of the CTA "L" trains on a tie. There is a separate door to the store so you do not have to pay admission to come shop!

I originally brought my watch to Evergreen Jewelry and they quoted me $8 to replace the battery. Not bad at all, I was once charged $20 at the mall to replace it. However, they couldn't open the casing to replace the batteries and they suggested I try Central Port Emporium. They were able to replace my watch battery and for cheaper too, only $5! I wouldn't suggest bringing a nice watch to get your battery replaced here (Rolex, Rado, etc) but for something like a Armani watch, it's perfectly capable.
