Places that ask for 'Donation' at entrance drive me crazy! Just say it's a fee and that you're donating the fees. We were walking in and got yelled at to come over and then they let us know they ask for a $5 donation. Just to clarify, no issue with making donations or paying an entrance fee to festivals but just don't give off the aire that it isn't mandatory when it is.
Now that being said, the first Logan Square Food Truck Social was decent - not amazing, not horrific. They had 13 food trucks there plus some other stands with food but those weren't ready when we there at 11:30am. Actually nearly no one was. The festival started at 11am and when we arrived at 11:15am, we only had 5 food trucks to choose from because all the others weren't set up yet. Also, Yum Dum listed on the website wasn't in attendance. In the 13 food trucks, there wasn't a huge variety of food options - Latin, Cajun, Seafood, American.
At the beer stand, Revolution had 4 on tap - Fist City, Eugene Porter, Anti Hero and Oktoberfest, plus there was also some swill being sold there like Miller Lite.
We ended up trying Elotes from Aztec Dave's, a Lobster Grilled Cheese from The Happy Lobster, a Bacon Jam Grilled Cheese from Lucy's and Biscuit, Ham & Greens from Saint Lou's. I had no idea Saint Lou's had a food truck! As usual my main complaint with food truck festivals is the big portion size of everything. It makes it impossible to try things from different trucks! Gah! Also, there were no dessert trucks! Wah wah.
Music didn't start until 2pm and in the meantime they were playing random stuff over the speakers.
We were at the Social until 1235pm and didn't see the Chef Demonstration that was supposed to be from Noon-130pm.
One very positive note about this festival is that they had a lot of picnic benches set up! It was easy to find a seat and there was none of that annoying eating while standing happening for me. Most picnic tables had cool Revolution umbrellas over top to boot. Hurrah!
I think it was a good first run for the Logan Square Food Truck Social. I hope it comes back next year and is even bigger and better with some small improvements made! read more
