Lots of deer out today
Bobbie R.

Easy nature walking loop by the water. Benches & education signs. Dirt path & paved a bit. Bathrooms and parking. Next to Lodi Lake. An easy stroll for all ages.

This trail is simply quaint and beautiful! A great kid friendly trail if you wanted to introduce your child to nature. Dogs are not allowed on the trail due to the wildlife. It is very cute for what it is. You will often see deer, fish in the pond, squirrels, and birds ! The trail has bikers and lots of families on the weekend, but I believe when I have visited on the week it has been more calm . The only reason I am taking away one star is sometimes the surrounding is loud and even some people on the path are blasting music on their bikes, which ruins the serenity of an otherwise wonderful trail.

After filling out envelop by hand, drop payment here.

I came here with my husband and two dogs on a Monday around 11am. They have an honors system for parking payment. There are envelops that you fill out with your $5 payment to drop in the slot. You start walking around the lake and you come to a sign to turn right for the beach. We turned right and came to a sign that said, "No dogs beyond this point." We went back to the original way and came upon several signs that say, "No dogs in the lawn." At that point, we turned around and went back to our car. My husband felt like this place was sketchy. There was a husband and wife in a dented mini van, going through black trash bags of laundry. There were other questionable people there but there were also mom's pushing strollers and bicycle riders. I felt safe for that time of day.

This trail is busy, even during the week. If you're wanting to get away from it all, this isn't the place to go. But if you like friendly people, wildlife, and nature, you can't beat it. The trail is well maintained. Trees are the main attraction, along with a beautiful, slow moving river, playful squirrels, lots of geese, and a few deer. A number of different bird species migrate through or stay year round. Take your binoculars if you enjoy birds and wildlife. The trail isn't too long. There are three routes - all ending up at the same place on the far east end. One that hugs the river to the north, one that borders the housing on the south, and one that cuts right through the middle of the other two. Here are some early April photos that will show you what to expect: https://www.flickr.com/photos/20198552@N06/albums/72177720297962245

A stroll through the nature trail and we came across a few deers.

It was a beautiful and peaceful walk through the nature trail. Walk started at 6am. And it was perfect. A lot of deer sightings.

Fun experience kayaking. Great little nature trail loop. Can get crowded on weekends. Hidden gem!

There isn't much in the city of Lodi. It's cute but it is a small town on the outskirts of Sacramento. My husband grew up here and has family that still live here so we visited his sick mother last week and had a few hours between visits and seeing family for dinner. He suggested we visited Lodi lake and we easily found parking on the street and walked around the lake until we came across the Nature Trail. It goes into the woods for a ways and then loops back along the lake and water with a small "beach" area. It's very pretty and serene and peaceful. We saw probably about another 15 people during our walk but it was spaced out and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and nature and respecting others by being polite and quiet. The trail has a map at the entrance and also has some markers and plant specimens throughout that are labeled. It was a pretty walk around and took us around 30 minutes total.

If you happen to be passing through the City of Lodi, California. One must stop by Lodi Lake ! To be honest with you , I was quite surprised to see such a beautiful lake in the middle of the city! People were fishing from their kayaks as well as from shore, playing with remote control motorized speed boats , and walking their dogs. The lake is surrounded by open space area with a playground, restrooms , covered picnic area's all around the lake, and a paved walkway. Lodi Lake Nature Trail is located in the the nature area of Lodi Lake Park. The nature area consists of 58 acres of nature area which includes part of the Mokelumne River Riparian. No dogs are allowed on the nature trail. The trail itself is approximately a 2 mile loop trail. All along the trail are trail markers describing different varieties of trees (Coast Redwoods, Live Oaks, Cottonwoods, Valley Oak), native plants/ and animals you might come across along the way. Such as different kinds of migrating birds, squirrels, to wild deer. The trail can be walked, jogged, and is wheelchair accessible to some point, depending on weather. I have found Lodi Lake and Nature Area to be very quite and peaceful. Overall a wonderful experience for the whole family to enjoy ! Special thanks to the City of Lodi for preserving such a wonderful ecological site for the enjoyment for generations to come !

This place is amazing! It is full of wildlife pleasant surprises. Very peaceful. I wish that I live nearby to take pleasure in the beautiful nature this park has to offer.

I wanted to save my 1,100 review for someplace special and Lodi Lake is one of those spots for my wife and I. For almost 11 years we take at least 2-3 trips to Lodi for some alone time and always stay at Wine & Roses just up the street from Lodi lake. We take these weekends to unwind, reconnect and enjoy some wine and each other. The reason why this place is so special because at least once a day we end up at Lodi Lake. Whether its to start the day, walk off lunch/wine or dinner its just a great place to come and unwind. This is fed by the Mokelumme river which is this areas main water source for not only water but all of nature and its habitat. There are plenty places to get lost around the trail and even duck out and find a private spot along the river to just chill and relax. What makes this place special is all the wild life that is out here. I have come across deer, foxes, coyotes, tons of squirrels.... Back at park which we have never taken advantage of is the great swimming area and they also have a pool for smaller kids. With Covid not sure of any of that being open but in past years have always seen lots of families hanging out. What's nice about this park is that if one place might be a little crowded then just head around the lake and your sure to find a spot less crowded. They also have tons of open space for picnics and any family outings. I also know in other times they rent boats, kayaks and paddle boards but again with TY not sure of the availability. If you are in the area fir any reason and needing some rest and relaxation then head over to Lodi Lake Nature Trail.

Beautiful spot to take your time to walk around & just relax. We've been coming here almost every weekend for the past 5 years.

This lake is beautiful and perfect for biking, jogging, swimming, & boating. If you're a Lodi resident, it's $4 for parking and if you're not, then it's $5 for parking. My family and I went on a long bike ride along the trail. We spotted deers here and they were so cute! There's some people on the trail, but there's enough room to social distance. Be careful of poison oak here!

As far as parks go, this is a nice as it gets. I have been visiting Lodi Lake all my life. In the summer they have boat rentals and places to BBQ. There are two separate playground areas for kids. The best part, however, is the nature trail. I went for a walk here with my friend last Friday and we saw three fawns frolicking through the trees. It was amazing. You'll also see tons of duck, geese, small birds, squirrels and maybe even a turtle or two. I always see people here fishing. The park is beautiful and peaceful and well maintained.

Dock area to bring in your own kayak or small boat.

You are literally so close to the deer that you can touch them but I wouldn't touch them for safety reasons.

Update 04-29-2012…read more Biking up Hutchins St past Legion Park, I noticed a Tennis Ball across the street from the Tennis Courts in the Park. Couldn't throw it back... because all the Tennis Players were gone. Took back the brand new Ball to Joe, my Dog.... Kept him busy for hours. Thank you... inept Tennis Players... Original Review 04-01-2008 Where to go to play Tennis in Lodi? And at night? My favorite place is at Legion Park on Hutchins street. There are four courts, AND there is also night lighting! In Lodi, there is also Kofu Park, about a mile West of Legion Park with 5 courts and a couple of tennis hitting walls and courtside bench seating... but Kofu attracts a "different" type of park goer. And Kofu is aimed more for larger group sports activities such as baseball and skateboarding. The second reason why I like this small park is that there is a small grove of tall trees at the West end of the park. The shade produced by those trees is sooooo inviting in the Summer! Just makes you want to set up a hammock and start taking a nap. Kofu Park, on the other hand, looks so HOT in the Summer... There is absolutely no trees... you can't put up trees near a baseball diamond or near a skateboarding course! I've always grown up equating a park with trees! Another reason why I dislike Kofu Park is the Lodi Municipal Garage situated right next to the park! There are City of Lodi vehicles that can include cop cars, city vehicles... essentially anything motorized that is owned by the City of Lodi, that passes right by the Tennis Courts. Sometimes the congestion is awful! Legion Park, also known as American Legion Park, also has a small playground for the little tykes in the family. Other sports activities is a basketball court (enclosed). There is also a picnic / barbecue area (3 picnic tables) for city park picnics or outside get-togethers. I understand that reservations are required, though. More family oriented that most other parks in Lodi, without the vagrancy prevalent in the more isolated parks in Lodi. Small enough that no member of your family would get lost, and more than enough type of activities to keep you busy. Note that night Tennis only until 11pm. Where to play Tennis if all the Tennis Courts in Lodi are filled? Get a list of apartment complexes that have lit courts... just act like you're a resident, and you've got it made!

Unfortunately, dog parents are not good about picking up after their dogs even though dog poop bags are provided along with plenty of trash cans throughout park. Also, some dog parents are not experienced so sometimes dogs will show dominance and not be corrected. It's unfortunate that a few bad people can ruin the experience for the rest of us considerate responsible dog owners!!

Things to like about Beckman Park as a dog park (big dog area): (1)HUGE. Your pup can run and run…read moreand run. (2) Shade. Plenty of trees on the upper areas of the park for those days when your pup wants to run but you want to loaf in the shade. (3) Huge. Yes, I know I already said it was huge, but it really is. (4) Poop bag dispensers near each of the entry gates. (5) Some users are good citizens - putting found toys (balls, discs, etc) near the gates for their owners to find, randomly filling the water bowls, etc. Things where Beckman Park could be better: (1) Both entries to the large dog area are single gates, so it's easy for dogs to slip past others trying to get in/out, and escape out to the street. (2) The poop bag dispensers are not always stocked, so bring a bag or two of your own, just in case. (3) Some dog owners do not pick up after their dogs, so lawn grenades can be a problem. (4) The park is bisected into an off-leash area and a leashed area, but the dividing line is not fenced. It IS marked by a sign, but my dog can't read. (5) There is no water available in the big dog area for dogs. Hence, the good citizens who provide water randomly. Most of the owners - and dogs - using this park are friendly and easy going. If your dog gets a little rambunctious, a sincere apology is usually all it takes to clear the air. Dogs being dogs, they like to sniff each others' butts and chase each other around, and most owners seem to understand that.
