One of my favorite things about vacation is unexpected places…read more Places that you ran into on vacation that you either had no idea existed or no idea how great they were. French Market in New Orleans was definitely that for me on my trip out there. I had heard of it before i arrived but I truly didn't know how great it was. I stumbled upon it after visiting Cafe Du Monde near Jackson Square. I decided to walk off those beignets off and stumbled upon the French Market. It was overwhelming. Just rows and rows of vendors and food spots. It's an open-air market though it is covered. My favorite spot in there was Loretta's Pralines and her famous savory crab beignets-which is in competition for my favorite bite in all of New Orleans. It's a perfect spot to buy darn near everything a tourist would want to buy on a New Orleans vacation. It's located right near the outer edges of the French Quarter and the Riverwalk. It covers about six blocks and dates back to the early 1800s. It truly is a piece of New Orleans history. I feel it's a true "must-visit" spot for anyone coming to the wonderful city of New Orleans.

The end we came in from started with food and there are beignets, oysters, boils, crawfish, and a whole bunch of other options. There is something for everyone to eat here. The other section had a lot of stalls selling trinkets, clothes, and artwork. I bought a couple of cute dresses and my friends and I all bought some artwork to bring home. It's a great place to get your souvenir shopping done as there are some unique pieces here!

Fun little market on the side of the road - we'd passed by the signs advertising "Hot Cracklins"…read moreand we had to make a stop. Lots of meats in the freezer section - we picked up stuffed pork chops and alligator patties. As we were checking out they just loaded up some fresh pork cracklins and we got a cup of those. So good! It's heavily seasoned so if you can't have or don't like salt, maybe see if they have any unseasoned. We also tried the gator balls - not my fave (tasted like maybe there was crawfish or crab mixed in) but ok.

There's a bunch of fresh fruit and vegetables for sale as well, and some nice decor for the home and all. Just looking for a snack, a real bite to eat, fresh produce for the house, this is a good spot for sure. I finally decided to try some of their real food so I called in a shrimp poboy and fries. I must say the shrimp poboy is definitely up there with the best I've ever had. They had a great amount of mayo, and the lettuce and tomato were fresh from a garden you can tell which made the sandwich much better than going to a chain restaurant or something of that sort. Poboy is pretty big with plenty of shrimp, fried perfectly, great bread selection too. Now the fries...the saltiest fries I've ever had in my life. You can zoom in on the picture and count every grain of salt on each French fry. I love salty foods but I couldn't even handle these fries. Otherwise, this would've been a perfect 10/10 meal. It was $21 with a large fountain drink. I will definitely be back for more food.
