this was only my second visit and i'll admit, i wasn't impressed the first time. the coffee is Morningbell Coffee so i knew i'd be getting a great drink at the very least. however, i didn't think it would be worth driving to the west side of ames when Morningbell is significantly closer to my home BUT my mind has been changed. the service at Lockwood is unmatched. my friend and i ordered the same crepe, goat cheese and mushroom, but they didn't have enough materials to make two. instead of making one of us compromise, the co-owner simply gave that one to us for free and let us order two different crepes. in total we tried the goat cheese and mushroom, caprese, banana nutella and the breakfast crepe. my other friend was not a fan of the breakfast crepe and when the co-owner saw she didn't eat it, she offered to make her a different one, free of charge. i was just blown away by how she cared about us as customers. the other crepes were very good. i would highly recommend the other three options. it's going to be a hard choice on my next visit! read more

Right when you walk in, you have a beautiful ambient view. From the distinct display of colors to the wide range of plants, Lockwood cafe carries a unique vibe. There is plenty of seating and open space to work at. Their lemonade is a must try. In the space next door they hold a gallery and more open space. The drip coffee/latte was average but the food was amazing! This is a must try while in Ames. read more

Good coffee, delicious crepes and very cool locale. Out and open, "play sculptures" are great for kids. Good for a relaxing coffee break and for families (young kids). love this place!! great food and coffee, well priced, kind staff. definitely check out their bookshelf too, they have some interesting art books. i got the apple brie crepe & my boyfriend got the caprese crepe. they were so good. the apple brie is a bit on the sweeter side too. we each got a cappuccino & they were great. nice foam. the ambiance is wonderful, warm and inviting with vintage furniture & art & little knick knacks. read more

I spend most of my time at work, asleep, or lying on the floor of my apartment and staring at the ceiling, but when that can't sustain itself, I go to Lockwood Cafe. This is the kind of place where the owner, Sharon, will learn your name on first visit. She converses quickly and warmly with patrons as they place their orders - never forced, always pleasant. I can understand how an owner is motivated in distributing the typical coffee shop niceties, but what is more difficult to understand is how ALL her employees manage to distribute those same niceties. I s*** you not - I think staff members who have never met me can greet me by name when I walk through the door. This may risk coming off as creepy; it usually is when a stranger knows your name, but the people who work at Lockwood Cafe are authentic. ("Authentic" is an overused term. Starbucks board members would kill for it, but it's hard to get the hipster blessing when your employees have to fight tooth-and-nail to unionize.) I really think the staff at Lockwood Cafe enjoy their work. I also suspect (and hope) that they are well paid. Why am I writing a pretentious review on Yelp? Cause I'm bored, and Lockwood deserves five stars. I feel like I owe Lockwood something. I'm a loser, and I think most people find me off-putting. You probably figured that out already, but keep that keenly in mind while also understanding that Lockwood Cafe is the kind of place where I feel welcome. Also keep in mind that Lockwood Cafe is not exclusively a place for losers. Lockwood Cafe is not "exclusive" in any sense of the word. I have sat there at a table between senior citizen breakfast groups and LGBTQIA+ couples. Utopia. Lockwood Cafe is nice to losers and to winners (and to people still tallying their scores). Why are you reading this review? Are you bored? If yes, I suggest going to Lockwood. There's usually art to look at, but the real masterpiece is the place itself. *wink* Are you trying to figure out if Lockwood Cafe has good food? Yes, the crepes taste nice. Get the breakfast special if you have not had breakfast. Get the Greek if you have had breakfast. Get any of the sweet crepes if you're eating to feel something nice. The coffee tastes good too. It's somewhat limited food menu is overcome by the inventive mixing of flavors that truly makes each item (mostly crepes) shine. Out of the way coffee shop in an old building by the railroad tracks. Their crepes are amazing!! And the cappuccino I had was perfect. Nice bold flavor. Staff was very friendly. Decor was retro-old tables and chairs from 70s but clean place. Art from the design students and plants made it homey. My new favorite place in Ames. :) read more

I had no idea this was a vegetarian cafe. 3 friends and I went here for lunch and just about left before we ordered. We all ordered the breakfast special which consisted of egg, cheese and diced tomatoes. They do not have burgers as it says they do online. They have crepes and drinks (no sodas or burgers). I paid $9.50 for the egg and lemonade - $5.50 for the egg and the rest for the lemonade. As I was walking out I met the owner and she wanted feedback so I said I wouldn't be back. That was when she told me it was a vegetarian cafe and I obviously didn't know the difference between vegetarian and vegan, but I was informed. I am so confused by the online menu listing 3 different burgers and the review about eating a burger there. The building was so cool and drafty that the food cooled off way to fast. I went home to fix myself lunch and gave my egg to my dogs. read more

Really yummy and fresh. Great prices. Great ambiance. We got a latte with the lavender rose syrup they make in-house, delicious. Banana Nutella and apple crisp sweet crepes, also wonderful. The coffee is AMAZING, crepes are hecka yummy, and you really, really can't beat the warm, friendly atmosphere. You can totally tell that the ingredients are fresh, and that there is a lot of care that goes into the food. My first visit, and I happened to drop by to hear one of the owner's amazing voice as she played on the guitar. I was greeted with smiles, and just seemed as if time stopped for a moment, and I could savor being fully present. This is definitely a place where you can unwind, enjoy the company, and make new friends. It's a very special place created with lots of care. Although they're building the shop to be indoors (and you've got to ask the owners about their plans for the space, because it sounds quite amazing), right now, it is a fully outdoor cafe. So, if it's a little chilly outside, bring a jacket or a blanket, and make yourself comfortable. read more
