The first couple of locksmiths I called said they would charge $250(!) just to come out to my place because I'm on the Northshore. Tom is not based on the Northshore either, but he charged me a very fair price. The second time I called him, I had a mini-emergency involving a closet door that I really needed to access and could not open. This happened after hours on a Friday evening, but Tom very kindly responded immediately. Apart from the above, he is just a super-nice guy and clearly really honest.

The man who answers the phone is super rude. I asked him when and how much it would cost to simply get a new key for my very basic front door. When he told me he was slammed, I asked him when his next available date was. He said, " I don't know you may want to call someone else. " I had told him I called another couple of locksmiths and they were booked for two weeks. He said "maybe I could help you mid week." I said, "ok....Wednesday?" He said, "I don't know. I can't give you an exact time." I said, " I'm just trying to figure out what works for your schedule. You said mid week, and I suggested Wednesday." He was so rude and said "I don't think I can accommodate you, you seem to be wanting something that's impossible for me." WHAAAAT?
