Sometimes when you are selling a house, the home inspector suggests a structural engineer to look at the floor joists or foundation because the house is old or has/had termite damage.
Like all people, I called around to about 5 different local engineering companies. Some of the big ones offer residential structural inspections but really are too busy to do it anytime soon because of the industrial and commercial work they do.
