McHappy's Bake Shop must be one of the coolest bakeries we've visited in a long time if not ever…read more When E and I walked in the first thing we noticed was a wall of beautifully colored pastries perfectly displayed filling the cases, I was lost for a few minutes looking at each one trying to decide how many I wanted to try. The next thing I noticed was the cool retro look and feel of the shop, again the colors and the decor had a classic old school feel to it, there was a light sound of music playing, not too loud, just enough. The lady working behind the counter was very accommodating, answering all of our questions and willing to take her time with us. As E looked around a little more I noticed a couple of people working at a table in the back, I made my way over to make conversation and the gentleman kindly stopped what he was doing and entered into a conversation with me, I must have asked a dozen questions about the shop and the pastries and he again kindly and patiently entertained every question I had and chatted with myself and E for a few minutes, soon we realized this gentleman's name was Bill and he was one of the owners. After our conversation with Bill E and I finally made a few decisions, we ordered several donuts and a gingerbread latte, McHappy's definitely has some of the best pastries and donuts around, my gingerbread latte was perfect, the service was 5 star and the bakery was clean, decorated wonderfully and just a pleasure to visit! We will be back to McHappy's Bakery and we recommend you go too!

I have nothing good to say about this shop. I was in from Virginia visiting family and stopped by…read moreto get a dozen donuts for the road to try. First off, multiple signs stating no photography in the shop. Once inside, none of the donuts are labeled, so you don't know if they have a cream center, custard center, or jelly center. It's all a guessing game! No prices advertised either. Again, just a big guessing game. The lady working was incredibly rude. I tried to make friendly small talk, telling her that it was my first time there, but she didn't crack a smile; just an absolutely miserable person. I ordered a dozen donuts and an apple fritter. She did mention that the apple fritter was a separate charge, but failed to mention that the donuts with a center were more expensive. You can imagine my shock at the register when I see that it's nearly $25 for a dozen donuts and an apple fritter. Two words; Never again. I do not recommend. There are far too many donut shops in the area that are far more superior. Worst of all, the donuts weren't even good. Who's keeping this place in business?

Public Post About Authentic Cheesesteaks As someone…read moreoriginally from South Philadelphia, I just wanted to respectfully share something about cheesesteaks. A traditional Philly cheesesteak is not made with roast beef. Roast beef has a completely different texture, seasoning, and flavor profile. While it may seem similar, it's not the same thing. An authentic cheesesteak is made with: * Thinly sliced ribeye steak (or shaved steak / minute steak as an acceptable substitute) * Cooked on a flat-top grill * Lightly seasoned (usually just salt and pepper) * Chopped and folded together while cooking * Served on a fresh hoagie roll (Amoroso-style if you want to be authentic) * Topped with either Cheez Whiz, American cheese, or Provolone * Optional additions: sautéed onions (this is traditional), sometimes mushrooms or peppers depending on preference The key element is fresh shaved steak cooked to order, not deli-style roast beef placed on bread. There's nothing wrong with roast beef sandwiches -- they're great in their own right -- but calling it a cheesesteak changes the standard of what people expect, especially for those of us from Philadelphia where this sandwich originated. I'm sharing this respectfully in hopes that local spots consider offering a true steak version. There's a big difference in quality and authenticity, and people would absolutely appreciate it.
