The outer is a hilly grass area with benches, and the inner is a well-equipped and fenced in large kids playground - such a set-up is perfect for adults to sit back and watch the kids whilst allowing them the independence to run around freely. And because of the fencing, the worry of them running off too far is eliminated. Another bonus is that it's never as busy as the Kelvingrove or Botanics. The grassy area is also perfect to let dogs have a nice sniff around - though probably only suitable for smaller dogs. All in all, it's a perfect escape from the city buzz on Byres Road, and a great way to entertain the wee-uns.

Since the old pavilion was converted into a nursery there's always a lot of child activity in the park, so consequently it is very popular with parents who have small children. It's a bit too close to Highburgh Road to be very peaceful, but it's a nice place to sit and get some sun in the summer months.

Kids these days don't know how lucky they are. This is such a middle class playground it is…read moreunbelievable: not content with just swings, you have race car chair swings. There's a zip wire, a climbing wall, some form of big swinging disk thing and numerous other structures bringing unadulterated joy to me...and probably little kids as well. During the day this playground is absolutely rammed with screaming children as mothers discuss the latest issue of glamour or yesterday's tea party. This is the time to avoid, mainly because you'll look a bit weird swinging with a load of 5 year olds (careful those of you with innuendo based minds). In the evening though, or better in the small hours of the morning, this is a drunkard's paradise. Everything becomes so much more amazing...and more difficult. Whether it be the swings, the climbing frame or simply the spinning disk then it is a joy. Also the playground is one of the best places to meet fellow boozehounds, there's a real community of idiots there. A word of warning though, when on the swings, make sure you don't look at the hypno-disk, it will definitely make you feel queasy at the least. Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow has paved paths through large grassy areas and sculptures spattered…read morethroughout the park. I liked one lioness/panther sculpture in particular that had been presented by a John S. Kennedy, not sure what the S stands for. The paths could be confusing on first attempt, though I found I could consult my phone to help me find which path to take. A number of critters were out in the greenery the few times I walked through in July 2019. The hotel where I was staying had a small parking lot that was first-come first-serve, so I did most of my exploring on foot. Kelvingrove Park was one option if I wanted to take in the nature of Glasgow and did not want to walk along the street.

At 25 pound per adult, I am not sure it was 100% worth the money, although you had an instructor with you at all times, and the safety kit was of a high standard. My brother and i arrived an hour before our booking time and were allowed to go early by ourselves, which was an added bonus. There are lockers with keys (at no additional cost), to leave any unwanted coats, bags etc. You are then given a safety harness, asked to take your height and weight against a colour coding system and given a rope and buckle. A 5 minute safety presentation is then given and you are good to go. The instructor will attach you to the smaller course of about 8 obstacles, including a zip-line, tightrope and some bridges. I was shaking during the first tightrope I could not get my balance at all and freaked myself out. Eventually, with the help of a lovely isntructor who reassured me I was fine (if you do fall as such, you basically zipline to the next platform), I managed to make it to the next platform. We then went on the taller course, which was so much fun. Personally favourites include jumping/stepping between tyres, swinging rope bridges and wooden x-s. The final 2 obstacles are another rope bridge which leads you to the final zipline. At this point you get an incredible view of Loch Lomond. We were definitely lucky to be able to go round ourselves, it took us about 45 minutes. They said it could take up to an hour and half, due to more people etc etc. If you are scared of heights, there is a path along the whole route that any other members of the party could walk around and watch you swinging from the trees. A great idea if only one parent wants to do it, the other parent can take photos! The minimum age is 7, but there is also a height restriction. A really good and fun addition to Lomond Shores. I feel a yelp event swinging along?!

They have a varied range of animals consisting of lots of types of birds from around the world, Prairie dogs, deer, Llamas and many more, to many to mention. They have a large area where you can go in and pet the animals within as well as the usual pens holding the other animals. There is a Falconry Centre, which is paid for separately (only if you want to hold and have your picture taken with one) as well as a hatchery, woodland walks, barbeque area and a massive playing area for the kids, indoor and outdoor. There is also a gift shop and cafe a lot of the produce being home made. When your there it feels like your on a large farm with amazing animals that are always friendly and looking for a bit of attention, you can even buy bags of food so as your trotting around the centre you are able to feed them as well. Entrance fee is £6 per adult and £4 per child; family tickets available, so it is excellent value for money and you could spend the whole day there. Staff are very friendly and always at hand to help or answer ant questions you may have. If you do have transport this is a brilliant day out for kids and adults and with ample free parking you wont miss out on a wonderful day. Sturdy footwear is advisable

This is another place that I came across while working as a child carer for a primary school's…read more'summer play scheme' one summer. A promisingly stressful day spend keeping beady eyes on a litter of running children was rather less stressful due to this little number. The children, still ran right enough, but at least the younger ones were suitably entertained and mesmerised by the castle like play structure, so ran around that for an hour or so. Meanwhile, the older children were entertained and mesmerised by watching oh-so-cool teenagers in the skate-park. Now for the history. This skateboard park seems to have been here forever. In a way, it has - well since 1951. Since then there has been a roller skating/skateboard arena here with renewed versions being unveiled in 1978 and finally 2004. There is also a substantial play area with slides, swings and a whole variety of hide-y wholes in a multicoloured wooden castle structure. There's a soft play artificial surface below for safety precautions too. All areas covered, so it's all good for the kids!

George Square Gardens is located just in the middle of some of the ugliest buildings in Edinburgh…read more(you know who you are Appleton Tower) However, this garden is well laid out and surprisingly big. If the Meadows are too crowded to be in then by all means come here to chill (just turn your back to the Library). There's a Labyrinth thingy on one side- it's not really a labyrinth more like a self-meditating maze and often I have seen people concentrating hard as they walk around it. I myself am probably too shallow to understand its meaning on finding my true self and so have instead raced friends to the end of it (each starting at a different side). During the Festival this Garden gets even prettier- they put large paper lanterns, a bar and wooden swings around and it's great to chill in with a great buzz of people!

(apparently, the tourism board should also sound like a 14 year old girl...) I'm not going to beat around the bush here (heh), I walked 15 minutes out of my way to go to this park. Sure, I was headed in the general direction but this gal can't pass up a good FTR (First To Review), and so park trekking it was. And as parks go, this one is pretty spiffy. Maybe not walk 15 minutes out of your way spiffy, but it's clean, the play space is bright, spacious and apparently "not for adults" and they've got a nice little set of picnic benches for when it isn't crazy cold/windy/raining (i'm told this magical moment happens in June). Not a destination park in any sense, i'm sure it would be a lovely find if I lived in the neighbourhood and a great spot to take the little ones!

Several paved paths within the park are good for scooters and kids' bikes. It's pretty quiet here. It has never been crowded when we've played here. The playground has baby swings, a tire swing, slide, merry-go-round, see-saw, and large climbing pyramid all set on a recycled rubber (soft) surface. There are also benches inside the playground area. The hedges shield the park from the busy road below and the other 3 sides are surrounded by tenement buildings. It always feels very peaceful here!

Sporting the sort of climbing frame I quite fancy a go of myself, the area has a nice wee playpark and plenty of room for running around. Being near Partick police station it should be safe, however it can be a little shady at night and is best avoided after dark.
