NEVER NEVER USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEING CHEATED! I've hired numerous cars in my time but never have i been treated so badly and taken advantage of. Firstly they charged me an extra fee for snow tires even though the temperature in Italy in April was 20+ degrees. This payment was taken without my consent weeks after my trip. Then months later they took two separate additional payments for apparent traffic violations without any proof of the infringement. So i've now paid about 50% on top of the original all inclusive cost of the rental and fear they may still charge me more for fictitious fees. NEVER NEVER USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU DON'T LIKE BEING CHEATED! read more

The worse choice in my life . The front trunk of the car i rented from this company got opened twice while I was driving on the highway . At the front desk in Milan they told me that the car was brand new and it wasn't . Their drop off parking garage in Rome is very far from the terminal and I had to push the carriage with 3 luggage for one km . Very bad assistance in everything . read more

I discourage anyone from renting from Locauto - they are in the business of scamming and happen to rent cars. I was charged a €1250 security deposit to rent a VW Golf from 14-21 March 2015 from the Rome Airport. I returned the vehicle at 450am on the 21st - no attendant was present so I dropped the keys. Several days later I received an email claiming that I did unspecified damage to their car in the amount of €291 Euros (198 for damage, the rest for administrative charges!!). On April 1st I received an email explaining that I put "slight dent on the rear bumper" (no evidence provided). After reading reviews on YELP, TripAdvisor, and several complaint pages on Google, Locauto is overwhelmingly engaged in scamming customers!!!! I used my AmericanExpress to pay for the vehicle and I am able to dispute this charge until they convince me and Amex that I did this. Locauto WILL attempt to scam you out of money. I recommend that if you HAVE to use this company go over it with a microscope before you accept it, annotate any and all irregularities no matter how insignificant you think they are - you will be charged for any and all fair uses changes to the vehicle!! When you return it - have the attnedant sign off on the vehicle. Locauto is in partnership with Enterprise...shame on Enterprise! read more

To echo many of the other posts here: DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY! I hate to use the all caps, but it's actually warranted here. We rented a car from this company through Rentalcars.com, an organization we had had no issues with in the past. Included in the rental was complete coverage in terms of damages. The rental was only for a day, from Florence down to Rome. To cover any damanges, they placed a 2000 Euro hold on our card, something rather absurd as we had insurance to cover such incidences. When we were given the car, we pointed out some chipped paint on the front bumper of the car, twice. Both times, the man responsible for marking the sheet waved us off, told us that it was a tiny issue, that there would be no problem with it. He eventually went inside and we took off. That same evening, we returned the car without incident in Rome. The next morning, we received a message confirming that the car had been checked in. As we didn't hear anything else throughout the day or the following, we assumed all was fine. Three days later, when we were in Venice, we received a message telling us that 525 Euro had been charged to our card. We immediately called the office and tried to get to the bottom of the situation, but they wouldn't say anything over the phone; the only response we were given was to find the information ourselves on their website. Our walk around the city was cut short as we raced back to do so. Sure enough, as we had suspected when the charge came through, Locauto had noted damage to the vehicle in the areas where we had pointed out the chipped paint. To top it off, they still hadn't unblocked the 2000 Euro hold. We emailed and called them back the next day, but nothing happened. As we were leaving Italy the next day, we were sure we had been swindled. After arriving back home, we contacted Rentalcars.com and asked them to rectify the situation, seeing as how we had paid for coverage against damages. Within a week, the money Locauto had charged us was returned. It only took another angry email before they finally unblocked the 2000 Euro. In case this was all tl;dr, I'll summarize here: Locauto is a group of SCAMMERS who will charge you extra anyway they can. STAY AWAY from this company at all costs. You'll be better off paying the extra money and renting from a reliable company. read more

BEWARE!!! We rented a car in Florence, Italy via Alamo. When we arrived at the address, it was Locauto. We had no issues with the new, bright blue car and returned it in perfect condition. The next day, I received an email stating that there was a scratch on the rear bumper and I needed to pay 375 Euros to repair the damage. Knowing the bumper was in perfect condition when we returned it and suspecting that it was still in perfect condition, I walked back to the parking garage and found the car. The bumper was in perfect condition. However, when I tried to take photos of the perfect back bumper, the glare coming through the parking garage windows made it look like it was scratched. I had to take numerous photos from various angles to prove that the bumper was not scratched and that the deceptive marks were sunlight reflections. The following day, I received two photos from Locauto allegedly showing the scratched bumper. In the first photo, it was very clear that the "scratches" were sunlight reflections from the parking garage windows -- just like in my own photos! The second photo that Locauto attached was clearly not the car I rented because it was a different shade of blue. Nonetheless, the "scratch" in the second photo looked like it was drawn with white chalk. Fortunately, my teenage daughter had taken photos of the car while I talked to the man processing the return. Between her photos of the undamaged rear bumper, my photos showing the sunlight glares on the undamaged bumper deceptively looking like scratches, and Locauto's fake damage photos, we have indisputable proof that this company is fraudulent. read more

We should have read the reviews before we rented from Locauto. We have been renting cars from Enterprise for years, at times weekly. How Enterprise could front a company like this is hard to understand. In September of 2019, we rented two cars from Los Banditos at Locauto. We were told that a drop charge of $86.00 euro would be due for a return to a different location. We just received a charge of $2,000.00 euros for a drop at another location. Don't rent a car from this company. Stay far, far away. read more

Well the price was good but the service and attitude could have been better. I rented through a third party (rentauto.com). Was supposed to have another driver and had her passport and copy of driving license with us but the station manager at Trieste airport said no you cannot list her as I don´'t have her driving license. Some info like a map of Italy and more, would have been appreciated in the car. So totally like medium rare their service but price was ok. read more

Booked thru enterprise I was confused to find locauto representative but whatever. I collected my VW golf from Roma Ciampino Airport. This experience was nice, the lady was friendly. She showed me the car and the scratches. She then showed me the equipment to lift the car incase I needed to change the tyre. I then indicated that there was no spare tyre, so this was a pointless exercise. Nevertheless, I was happy with my experience. When I returned the car to Bergamo Airport, firstly there was no where to park. All of the locauto spaces were full and when I stopped in an Avis parking space, their staff told me to move. I had no option but to park in the middle of the road, where I waited for locauto staff to review the car. They pointed out a very small scratch on the bonnet and asked if it was there before. I did not recognise it, because it was so small and the car was already quite dusty in Rome. I was shocked when they told me that they would charge me 195 euro because of this. I had a bigger scratch on my car before and it cost me €20 to remove. Anyway, the scratch was on the bonnet. This is not the fault of the driver but more like a random event, that could have happened while the car was parked. I understand there are rules, but €195 is ridiculous for this damage. I have rented cars for many years from various companies and this is the most unfair experience so far. This charge is outrageous for such a tiny scratch that is no fault of the driver. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM LOCAUTO! March 2015 I rented a car from Locauto at the airport in Rome (FCO). Upon returning the vehicle I was billed for damages in the amount of €298 but no damages occurred. After reading numerous complaints against this company I believe they are in the business of scamming tourists from their money with fraudulent claims realizing that we are not in position to defend ourselves especially after you return to your country. Fortunately I used my American Express card and successfully disputed Locauto's fraudulent damage claim. No additional was given to Locauto. Again avoid this horrible company! read more

We had rented a car from Alamo at Rome Fiumicino airport. Car hire is done on behalf of the Alamo by Enterprise / Locauto. Beforehand we had paid by credit card. Car was ok when received. There was only a small scratch on the rim right. There was also a scratch on right rear rim that was not on an accident report. But scratches less than 5 cm is not looked at. Upon return I was immediately drawn to scratch rim right. I indicated that I declared and the scratch was less than 5 cm. The controllady says..excluding RIM !! I got the bill presented of 200 euros for a scratch that was already on the RIM. It's dirty trick they DID Big scam and I am an experienced car renter. Here I willrent NEVER !! again. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM LOCAUTO!! I didn't even know I was renting from this company! Upon arrival in Florence, I found the Enterprise agency was actually Locauto Rent a Car - I am not sure if Enterprise Owns Locauto, or if they are sub-contracted? Not that it really matters either way. Nothing seemed unusual about picking up the rental vehicle, including the mutual inspection for preexisting damage which I seemingly have done dozens and dozens of times. Both myself and a Locauto casually walked around the vehicle (standing erect you must know) noting a few minor imperfections - again, nothing unusual. We enjoyed our time in Italy and the car was great - no issues what-so-ever while using the vehicle. Upon returning the vehicle (the morning of September 12th) I was third in line to have my car inspected and was witness to something I have never seen. The gentleman (I did not get his name) inspecting the 2 vehicles ahead of me took at least 10 minutes to inspect every inch of the exteriors of each vehicle. In the case of the vehicle just before mine he discovered damage that the Customers said they were not responsible for and a rather heated debate ensued. Ultimately, the customers left without agreeing to take responsibility for the damage (quoted at 900 Euros to repair). It was rather unsettling to watch. Having just witnessed the detailed inspection of the previous 2 vehicle and the argument, I decided to video the inspection of my vehicle. The gentleman was consistent for sure, and again I witnessed another incredibly thourough inspection. This included to my surprise the man checking the underside of the front bumper - literally bent over almost to the ground. This was when he brought to my attention a paint chip on the underside of the bumper that was not documented during my original inspection. Of course I was surprised as I knew for a fact this was not something that occurred while I had the vehicle. Furthermore, the chip is not even visible from a standing position - the way it was inspected initially. Rightly or wrongly, I have never got down on my hands and knees to inspect any vehicle I have rented. I never imagined it would be necessary. After some discussion, and realizing he was seriously going to hold me responsible, I made the point that if he (representing Locauto) was going to take 10 minutes to inspect every inch (literally) of a vehicle upon it's return, they should do the same level of inspection when it is being checked out. This most certainly was not the case. Like the customers ahead of me, I ended up leaving without acknowledging responsibility for this paint chip on the underside of the bumper. I took picture of the chip from both the kneeling position, and from a standing position where it is not visible, before I left. About an hour later I received an email stating the estimate to repair the chip would be 199 Euros. Again, I adviced Locauto via return email I was not responsible for this chip, and would not authorize payment for the repair. Weeks later I received the an email from Locauto offering a "deal" of only 100 Euros to settle the damage. I don't know what it is, but this offer seems suspicious - like they are trying to get me to "plead guilty" to a lesser crime! Again, I made it clear whatever damage they found was not made by me - especially to the underside of the bumper. Our trip was in September 2018, and I am writing this in January 2019, having just received another request for payment, I have appealed to Enterprise Holding Inc. in the US to weigh in our this, I was a very loyal customer for many years. Today, Enterprise has made no attempt (that I am aware of) to settle/close this issue. I have now moved my significant business car rentals to Hertz, and Enterprise has already lost more business/margin from rentals they did not get than the 100 Euros they want me to pay! Worst car rental experience I have ever had! Do not rent from this company!! read more

The car rant horribly. The gears slipped all the time and you had to force it into reverse and usually 2 or 3 times to get it to stick which is incredibly annoying in Italy when everything you do has to be fast on the road. The gps they rented me hadn't been updated in 19 months (it said so when I turned it on) and it couldn't find any destination I put it. Every single one it took me to the wrong place. Thankfully I had preloaded a map onto my phone and taken pictures of how to get to my accommodation the first night or I wouldn't have made it. read more

My advice is to stay as far away from this company as possible. We were just ripped off by Locauto. We should have read reviews before being lured in by what we thought was a good price. Turns out it cost us a lot more. We picked our car up (small Lancia Ypsilon) in Catania, Sicily. We should have know something was amiss because we rent cars often and we have never been charged a $1500.00 deposit, ever, but here we were between a rock and a hard place. We got to the car in the lot and found it was only 3/4 full. We went back to the office and they wrote a note on our rental agreement and in our file. Used the car for two days and we were very careful. We checked it for any additional damage when we parked in on a quiet street in Catania near our hotel and also in the gated compound for our 2nd hotel in Palermo. We returned the car to Palermo (extra 84 euros) and dropped it off in the airport rental car lot at 0730. No one from Locauto was there to look the car over with us but we did and saw no damage in addition to what was shown on the paper we got when we picked it up. So we had no choice but to drop the keys in the box and catch our flight. It only took a couple of hours before we got an email telling us that we incurred additional damage and that our credit card was charged for 255.02 euro ($341). I started a dispute asking for pictures of said damage. We got nothing for a day and then another email stating that the person who accepted the car back noted additional damage to the rear bumper. We asked for pictures because we had taken some in the lot and we wanted to compare. No dice they just insisted that we incurred damage and that's that. Also we still have not received notice that we have gotten all or the remainder of our $1500.00 deposit back. I know it is hard to generalize but from our experience we would never rent a car from these people again. PERIOD, DOT.. They are unprofessional to say the least. I am being kind here. Spend a few more bucks and use a reputable, professional company who recognizes customer service and isn't in the business just to rip off as many customers as it can because it thinks they will simply get away with it. read more

I am a staff member of the United Nations. I travelled many countries around the world and had never had such a bad experience on renting a car. I would give ZERO star if Yelp allowed. My finance and I went to Sicily in Dec. 2015 and rent a car from Locauto. The company gave me a car with many scratches. When we returned the car, they claimed that we have to pay for those scratches, which were made before, and magically those scratches had appeared on their iPad when we picked up the car, which confirmed that the scratches were made before, disappeared!!! They charged me more than 1000 Euro and though I wrote to them for dispute, no use. The company knows that you are going to catch your flight when you return your car, so they play the dirty game. PLEASE keep away from this company. read more

One of the WORST. IT IS NOT ENTERPRISE Car Rental. There is no way to contact them when there is a problem. We spent a week in Italy. Ended up with two driving violations (of which we have no idea). We were billed by Locauto for the violations, then we receive a notice from the Italian Highway of violations that equal pretty much what we paid Locauto. There is no way to contact Locauto, and it appears they took our money and never paid the fines. We really don't know our options except to pay the bill (AGAIN) directly to the Italian Highway. I have heard from other tourists to Italy that this "violation" is very common and perhaps a way to make additional revenue for the country. Loved Italy, may never go back or may do a tour next time to avoid this nonsense. read more

What more can be said about LocAuto? They are absolutely the worst. We rented a car from them for an entire week with full coverage insurance for approximately 250 Euros. Our rental went over by 2.5 hours, and they charged us another 160 Euros for the extra time. The LocAuto contract limits the extra charges to only 1.5 times the average daily rate (i.e., no more than 53 Euros), but they said that the charges beyond the maximum allowed were due to "administrative fees" and insurance. TOTALLY DISHONEST!!! DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

We found Locauto to be a disingenuous, dishonest and unreasonable company The Locauto representative at the Pisa airport depot lied to get us to sign up to their fuel prepaid option (this means that you return the car empty and they fill it). We were told that there would be no fuel stations open near the airport on a Saturday, when we were due to return the car, and that it would not cost much more to have them fill the car rather than us do it ourselves - this was all lies and I believe this constitutes miss-selling; however we felt that we had no other option and signed up. Once we realised that they were going to charge us 80 euros to fill a tiny 35 litre tank we decided to return the car full of fuel (and yes we found loads of petrol stations around the airport area to be open on a Saturday and filling the tank from empty cost 50 euros). We returned the car in perfect condition and with a full tank and when we asked if there was anything else to pay we were told no everything was fine and we received an email the next day to confirm that we had returned the car with a full tank of fuel; however 3 days later 80 euros were taken from our bank account by Locauto - not sure what they did with that money because they certainly couldn't use it to fill the car as it was returned brimming with fuel! Contacting their customer service is fruitless as they just don't want to know and seem not to care. They are a disgrace and I only wish that we had thought to look at reviews before using this company. I gave this company a 1 star rating only because there was not a 0 star option. read more

Is there a way to give this company a negative rating? I rented a car from Locauto at Fiumicino Airport in Rome this past July. The car itself was decent. However, about 2 months after return to the States SIX charges for about $54 EACH appeared on my credit card. I then received an email from Locauto notifying me that they charged my credit card about $324 for "administrative services". While in Rome, I allegedly received 6 traffic fines (I did not have any clue that I even received them) - they were all for driving in restricted zones. I have a feeling this is a very common occurrence in Rome. Apparently, I received four of them within a few minutes of each other as I was looking for parking near my hotel. Locauto SHOULD warn all its foreign customers that there are restricted driving zones within Rome. But why would they? They collect over $50 for "processing" your paperwork when the authorities request your information from them for each fine. I attempted to call Locauto but they told me I had to submit any questions via the website. A few days after I submitted my inquiry, they responded with a brief email saying that the 6 fees (totaling about $324) were for "processing" my paperwork in connection with the fines. I protested in the next email that $324 is EXTREMELY EXCESSIVE for processing paperwork (probably emailing my home address to the authorities) and asked what this "processing" entails - I received no response. It's been more than three weeks now. I also requested a discount and received no response. I have a feeling that this is a huge cash cow for Locauto (as well as Italian authorities). Once a tourist leaves Italy, he/she is virtually helpless about these fees and/or fines. Be VERY cautious. read more

AVOID LOCAUTO at all costs. Hi Just back from Sorrento. Had a great trip which was ruined by Locauto car rental. I picked up the car at Naples airport. I am in the motor industry so I know how to appraise a car for scratches and damage. YOU MUST DO THIS. I took pictures of every mark and scratch on the car before i drove away. The girl had two on her IPAD but I found a lot more that she refused to take note of as they were under 5cm. I also took my dashcam and fitted it before i left. I was very carefull every time i left the car in a car park as you are forced to have 900 euros blocked on your credit card in lew of damage. In Positano you will need to let an attendant park your car so let them see you take pictures before you leave it and always check it when you return as the car parks are multi level and very tight. When i returned the car to the airport it was before the rental office opened so again I took pictures of every panel on the car and the reg plate. This ensures you have a digital date and time stamp on the images in case you need them. And boy do I need them. On my return I was hit with a £450 euro invoice claiming that the car was damaged and the funds removed from my card without my authorisation. Of course it was not and I have all of the evidence to prove it. Even the dashcam will verify where i had been on my trips and dates and times as LOCAUTO claim that i was involved with another car. So far they have not provided any photo's that I requested but stand by their claim. My credit card company have opened a dispute and I am confident that I have all the proof needed. Had i not taken the pictures I would not be so confident.. A google search of LOCAUTO will show that this is a regular scam and if anyone knows how to stop them I will be happy to contribute my experience. I intend to propogate my experience on every social media platform that I can to prevent others being robbed by them in the meantime. LOCAUTO are partners with Enterprise car rental and I have issued a complaint to to them along with Auto Europe who I booked with. Renting a car was a fantastic was to see the Amalfi coast just a pity about the crooks at Locauto. Paul read more

Absolute Pirates - AVOID! Hire car paid upfront. I'll keep this as brief as possible. We were 'upgraded' on pickup, so therefore deposit was €1200 as opposed to €700. Original car not available till the next day, so we had to go with their zero excess fully comp insurance (extra €160 on top of what we had already paid (€320)) to get the deposit down, just to get the car. Stereo not working. Were told replacement car not available till the next day. Not offered any kind of discount. Staff were very unhelpful. Finally we got rear ended (just a damaged tail light) in a car park. Were told (after we got back to the UK) that rear lights were not included in the insurance (WTF?!). So we were charged an extra €160, and also a €99 'accident admin fee'. So, altogether, we paid €720 for a car for 10 days. They just helped themselves from our credit card. If I had known what they were going to do, I would have cancelled the card as soon as we got home. Words cannot express how much contempt I have for this company. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

They incorrectly charged us 137 euros for small wheelcap that were already present! Car was perfect, service on the counter was slow in Pisa, Italy, customer service afterwards is horrible. Worst of all, the ripped us off on purpose!! Part of my complaint email illustrates: "I requested your colleague who did our hand-out, Alessandro, to write down all scratches on the car. He refused to write down the scratch on the left wheelcap as he stated it was not necessary. He was correct; the contract I signed while receiving your car in Pisa states "scratches on the car body (roof excluded) shorter than 5 centimeters are not marked neither charged". Therefore we jointly decided to not mark any scratches on the left rear wheelcap. While handing in the car, this person was attempting me to pay for this shorter than 5 cm damage on the left rear wheelcap. Although he understood the situation, he kept telling us his colleague should have marked it." read more

Do not, I repeat, *DO NOT* use Locauto under any circumstances. They charged me 50 Euro's to forward a parking fine received. Just to be clear - this was *not* for the parking fine - it was a 50 Euro 'Admin fee' to forward me a copy of the parking fine to pay. Don't risk it - if, for whatever reason you accidentally incur a traffic or parking violation, Locauto will charge you more for the paperwork than the actual fine itself. yep, the way these guys work is that when you pick up the car and go through the damages and you comment on scratches that are not in the report they claim that "scratches less than 5cm are not counted" if the car then is returned out of office hours they will automatically charge you for those same scratches that has now been added to the report. There is no option to leave no stars and even one star is too much for this criminals. I rented a car from Olbia's airport in Sardinia and I had to pick up the car at 22:30. I was there at the exact time but there was a queue and I had to wait on that queue for over an hour. Once I got to the desk and we started filling all the forms for the car rental I was informed that they will charge me 40 euros because I was late and they can not do anything about it because the computer system check the time and automatically add those charges once the clock pass 23:00. I was given a custome number to call and complain about those charges . After calling the number I was told to fill a form online and explain the case. Guess what the answer was : Dear Customer, thank you for contacting us. we have investigated on this issue, and we regret to confirm the correctness of the charge fo the out of hour fee, which is applied for the service provided to all Customers after the closing time of the rental office. This a company that I would not recommend even to my enemies. Don't fall for their cheap prices. Avoid Locauto rent like the PLAGUE. My family just returned from a holiday to Sardinia where we have been scammed by this company. We rented a car in Alghero airport that had a rear bumper damage, which was noted by the assistant (Marco, very rude guy) and we also took a picture at the time of the pick-up. The assistant had me sign for the pick-up on a PDA with an electronic signature, assuring me that the damage was recorded. Since our return flight was very early in the morning, we returned the car outside their office hours. After a couple of days I received a charge of 297 EUR on my credit card and an invoice for "rear bump damage". It turns out that my friend Marco "forgot" to put the damage in his PDA where he had me sign (or he removed the damage from the electronic form after we left). I escalated this case to their customer complaints, attaching also the picture - taken at the time of pick-up - showing that the damage was already there when I picked up the car. To date, there is no reply from them. Really, really horrible experience, with rude and cheating personnel - obviously a company that feels very comfortable stealing from customers. So - avoid them at all cost! read more

Charged for the damage, that was already on the car. I showed this damage to the representative, and he marked it on his iPad (since he does not have a paper version), or at least he said he marked the damage. I was given to sign the acceptance of the car on his iPad, where only the place for signature is shown, but not the damage that he marked, so I was unable to verify. Name of the representative is Francesco. Now, when I returned the car, I was charged for that particular damage, the he failed to mark, and I was shown an agreement, where my signature is on the old version of the damage report (without the additional one that I showed him and he said he marked "on the system"). So one of the two things happened, he failed to mark this new damage, but I was unable to confirm, since they did not have a paper version of the report, and only showed me a place to sign on iPad, or he deleted the markings, since I signed not on paper form. In any case, this is a fraud. read more

Run away. charged us from "damages" never specified or proven and that we know are not real (after the incredibly detailed check out revision - the guy could not even find his own marks for "damage" - we drove it as if it was made of cristal...) almost impossible to contact (only trough the website or an italian phone number) no response to our disputes so far from them considering legal action, if anyone is interested / knows someone interested in a collective action please let me know tks celso read more

I booked a car through a broker website from Locauto in early January. It was prepaid and the sum was charged on my credit card at the time of reservation (months before the actual trip). I arrived to Bergamo Airport on a Saturday afternoon with my family. I went to the Locate booth to pick up my reserved car. I booked an Audi A4 (or same category car) as I needed to fit 5 people conveniently in the car. The agent, who was a middle aged, rather slovenly man acted like he is doing me a favour (after I paid more than £400 in advance). He demanded 2 credit cards for the hire, one of them should have been either an American Express or a Diners Club card. This is rather unusual practice, I hired a Sherman tank size 4WD in Canada earlier without any nonsense like this. In fact there was a paragraph in the Terms and Conditions (which I read, but I must have misinterpreted), when it was talking about virtual credit cards and under this there was a description about this two credit card madness: "This company will not accept prepaid, recharge or virtual credit cards - or any card on which the relevant characters are not raised ('embossed'). Two credit cards are required for deposits for this car group. The second card must be either American Express or a Diners. They must be issued by two different banks." I must be very old fashioned but I only have ONE credit card from ONE bank, where I hold a premier account with £8000 allowance on my Visa credit card. To cut the long story short, the agent was completely non-cooperative. When I asked him what would happen with my prepaid expenses he was the least bothered: "Call your broker!" - he said. He did not want to help and resolve the situation at all! I would have accepted the situation if I saw a single spark of sympathy or willingness to find some solution. He could have offered another car, which did not have same condition of hire. I work in a business where costumer care is paramount therefore I was shocked to experience such "care a poo" behaviour and careless approach to a costumer. This is the first impression of Italy (which is heavily dependent on its tourism industry) for the traveller. The situation was saved by AVIS, who provided a nice and very comfortable 4WD for slightly higher than my original price ( taking into consideration the immediate booking on the airport it was absolutely acceptable). (I had to cancel my original car booking through the broker so I lost some money as there was a charge for it.) But the staff at AVIS - unlike the Locate guy - wanted to help us. What is the moral of the fable? AVOID LOCAUTO AT EVERY COST! If a company is so insecure and mistrustful that it demands 2 credit cards (each issued by a different bank!) for a higher mid-category car then you simply don't want to make business with them. They are unable to employ staff who have a basic understanding of costumer care. Go to big, traditional hire companies (Avis, Hertz, Budget, Sixt, EuRopcar) as they know their business inside out and treat their costumers fairly. read more

Rented/reserved a auto from Locauto for 8 days while in Italy. Immediately $402.86 was paid via my Amex card to 'reserve' the car. My trip was cancelled to Italy but trying to cancel the reservations after placing 5 direct telephone calls to Italy and trying to receive some kind of assistance from this this Horribly managed car rental company was impossible no matter how many times I called or filled out the forms they told to complete online on their awful web site. I finally sent all my documents to American Express hoping to receive a credit back to my account from Locauto. DO NOT RENT ANYTHING from this company. read more

Worst experience ever. DO NOT RENT ANY CAR by this company. I rented a car in Palermo, they charged me first more than 100 euro's more than my reservation and later on they charged me more than 150 euro's extra, totally 269 euro (40 euro a day) more. They can't speak any other language than Italian. I created a site locautorent.info, because communication with them is terrible. read more

I recently had a highly disappointing experience with LOCAUTO, which is deceptively operating under the guise of ENTERPRISE. This company is engaging in unethical practices and scamming customers by repeatedly charging for pre-existing scratches on their vehicles. Upon renting a car from LOCAUTO , I meticulously checked the vehicle for any damages and noted several minor scratches. However, despite my vigilance and thorough documentation, the company accused me of causing these damages upon return. It quickly became clear that this is a recurring scam they pull on unsuspecting customers. LOCAUTO Company is hiding behind the reputable name of ENTERPRISE, which makes their deceit even more reprehensible. They exploit the trust customers have in ENTERPRISE, only to hit them with unwarranted damage charges. This dishonest practice not only tarnishes their reputation but also casts a shadow on ENTERPRISE. I urge everyone to be extremely cautious when renting from this company. Always take detailed photos and videos of the vehicle before and after your rental period, and insist on having any existing damages documented in writing. Better yet, avoid this company altogether and choose a more transparent and trustworthy rental service. In conclusion, LOCAUTO is an absolute scam artist, preying on innocent customers by falsely charging for existing scratches on their cars. They deserve no business and should be held accountable for their fraudulent activities. Save yourself the headache and steer clear of LOCAUTO Company. read more

Absolutely the Worst Rental Experience - Avoid LocAuto at All Costs Renting from LocAuto was one of the most frustrating and disappointing travel experiences I've ever had. Despite returning the vehicle in the same condition I received it, I was later hit with an outrageous damage claim for a "seriously dented roof"--damage that was never visible, never discussed, and not even possible for me to inspect due to the height of the vehicle and lack of any return walk-through. There were no timestamped photos provided and the vehicle diagram they used was for a sedan, not the 9-passenger van I rented, leading to confusion about the actual damage location. To make matters worse, their own documentation referenced the rear trunk, not the roof. I pointed this out, along with multiple inconsistencies in their paperwork, but was met with cold, generic replies and zero accountability. Even damage previously noted on the vehicle was misrepresented as new. Their process is opaque, one-sided, and sets customers up to take the fall for issues they cannot verify or defend against--especially if you return the car after hours and use their key drop. I ended up paying a fine just to end the stress and threats of debt collection, even though I strongly disagreed with the claim. It felt like a blatant attempt to squeeze money out of customers post-rental using vague documentation and rigid policies. Never again. I strongly warn anyone considering LocAuto: choose a more reputable, transparent, and customer-oriented rental company. read more

I was refused to get a car from Locauto, Malpensa Airport, because my daughter, as driver, was short on reserve on her credit card. The company hold the huge amount of Euro 1.250 as security for damages or any other fantacies. Other daughter was refused, despite enough reserve on her card, and a valid drivers license. Tried to start from scratch with (other) daughter, but refused. Gave up after two and a half hour, and catched a train to Desenzano. Cartrawler, who is the resposible, surprisingly paid me back half my money. In this way, my loss is about 170 Euro. I now see that there was a great risk loosing the whole deposit of 1.250 Euro. Locauto's policy seems to be to grab as much as possible from the deposit, making up some excuses. This I found out from yelp, Facebook and googling. So I am really happy that we got no car - and limited my loss to 170 Euro. I have never seen a company getting so many harsh evaluations as Locauto AVOID THE COMPANY LOCAUTO. read more

Stay away from LOCAUTO car rental Company. They have lots of tricks. I have rented an economy car from Locauto two weeks ago. I picked up the car on time and return it back on time. Just 1- 2 km before I returned the car at Rome Fiumicino airport. I fulled the gas tank and received an invoice. Then I drove 1- 2 km to the car rental office. Sometimes, the pointer of the gas tank on the front panel reacts slowly. The pointer did not showed 'FULL' at the time of return. I told the boy working for Locauto that I had the receipt. He was insensible and rude. He did not accepted the receipt and told met hat I have to pay a fine. As I had two more hours of time, I drove back to the gas station. The man working at the gas station opened the hood of the car, disconnect the cable of the car battery and then reconnect the cable. The pointer began to reacted correctly. He told met hat this is a TRICK that some car rental companies do. read more

They gave me an older car with all sorts of little scrapes especially around the tires. i was in a rush with 2 small children so didnt think much since it was clearly stated in the check out report. Halfway through the trip, the maintenance required light came on. we managed to get back to the airport but were startled when attendant charged us 230 euro for tire damage. She then threatened to add more fees if i didnt acknowledge her report. I agreed with wear on tires since it was similar to checkout but didnt agree with charges at all. Unfortunately, it 's really hard to have a conversation in a foreign language in a dirty congested parking garage with 2 kids under 3 yrs. I'm trying to dispute with locauto, booking.com, and credit card so we'll see where this ends up. I now look at reviews and see a lot of similar stories:( read more

I had an excellent experience with Locauto Car Rental. From the moment I walked in, the staff was polite and welcoming. The establishment was clean, well-organized, and professional. Marco was incredibly patient, walking me through all the necessary documents and insurance options. As a traveler from the U.S. renting a car in Italy for the first time, this level of support was truly reassuring. Locauto offered a variety of rental options, and my car was spotless and fully fueled for my trip. When I returned the vehicle, both Marco and another team member provided quick and efficient service. They even helped call a cab for me while I charged my phone--a thoughtful gesture that made my experience even better. I can't recommend Locauto enough! I will definitely be renting from them again when I'm back in Sicily. read more

These people are crooks and bandits. We just paid over $370 in damages ($90 was a "management fee" because we refused to pay on site. We rented a car for twelve days and when we returned it, their agent got down on her hands and knees to find a scratch that would easily have been removed with some Armourall, on the plastic bumper guard. If I could post the pictures they would tell the entire story as to the lengths these crooks go through to stiff you with charges equal to 50% of the entire lease fee. The grand irony...we booked this through Expedia and they indicated that Alamo was to be our provider...instead, we got Robin Hood and his merry gang of thefts. Never, never rent from this company, you will be very, very sorry if you do. read more

DO NOT RENT from Locauto Rent or Enterprise when in Italy. They are thieves and scam artists. I read many different reviews about Locauto Rent fraudulently charging for many things. So I did not rent from them due to this. I went through Enterprise to be safe and Lo and Behold they sent me to pick up my car from Locauto Rent in Rome and I got charged an extra $300 in damages. There is no way to dispute this and Enterpise would not help out at all. Nobody would show me this "damage" they said that occurred and we took pics before and after of the car. There was no damage whatsoever and there was no way to get my money back since they had my card already charged. DO NOT rent from either of these places! Be warned!! read more

Extremely bad experience with this company! NEVER rent a car from Locauto! I did the mistake not to read the contract before renting my car during my holidays in Italy. I drove very carefully during all my trip but they claimed there is a new scratch on the car (not noticed at the check-in). After signing the inventory they told me they will charge me 429 e (including 81 euros of "administrative fees") for this!! Assuming I am responsible I want to make clear that the repairs of this certainly not worth this price. I tried to complain but nothing to do, they just told me they agreed it was unfair practices but that is was the company policy. LOCAUTO IS A COMPLETE SWINDLE BE CAREFUL!!! read more

Fazit: HALT LIEBER DIE FINGER WEG DAVON! read more

I was really disappointed by my experience with Locauto. I prepaid for a 4-day rental, trusting the positive reviews. But when my Volotea flight was suddenly cancelled due to technical issues, I had no way to pick up the car on time. I called the same day, explained everything, and asked if I could collect the car the next day or get a refund. They flatly refused, hiding behind their policy--even though the situation was completely out of my control. In the end, they kept all my money and rented the car to someone else. It felt deeply unfair and unacceptable. read more

Never ever rent a car here!! I rented a car with full insurance, however, they still wanted the full €1300 deposit (normally the deposit goed down when you get fll insurance). My creditcard allowed a €1200 deposit. They refused to take the other €100 from another card, cash or debitcard. They refused to change the name in the booking so that it could go on another creditcard. We ended up not getting the car(!!!!), and not getting back the money we had paid for renting it, and on top of it all, were yelled! Most horrible car rental experience ever!!!! read more

We rented a car from Locauto at Catania airport in May 2024. I must admit I was very scared to do this after reading the reviews on this website, and promised myself to write a positive review if everything went smoothly - and it did! The pick-up and drop-off process was seamless, there were no hidden or late charges (which was a relief after the comments I read), and the team was highly professional and helpful. I booked through Booking.com, and the process was straightforward. Based on my experience I would recommend it! read more

It seemed everything was ok, until after a few months. First they charged for more 1 day (around 100€, since it's the standard price) because we arrived 1 hour later, but nobody said nothing when we returned the vehicle... Then they started to charge almost 50€ for what was supposed to be traffic fines, which I never had none during the stay in Italy, neither received at home any. Had to cancel the credit card so the scam can stop, it's unbelievable how unserious this company is! Don't use this company! read more

BEWARE... Do not rent a car off this company. If they have your credit card they'll start charging you unknown transactions when you return to your homeland. They are cheap for a reason because they make money from charging you $199 euro administration fees for fines I never received. read more
